The Conrad Shanghai emerges as a mixed bag for many travelers, where the professional service, particularly in the Executive Lounge, and a central location near shopping and landmarks are highly commended. Guests have enjoyed the hotel's modern atmosphere, spacious rooms with striking views, and the inviting bar with karaoke.
However, some reviewers warn of slow check-ins and a need for better staff training. While the Executive Lounge receives accolades, opinions on value and room conditions are less favorable, with unexpected charges and maintenance concerns occasionally diminishing the experience.

A really nice hotel in an excellent location. Rooms great, food great, unfortunately staff were a bit hit and miss.
I should have done my homework better but it would have been nice to be told about the exec suite and top floor bar when we checked in (both were very nice after we found them)
Restaurant staff struggled with English and service was quite poor, which was a shame as the food was very good.
I also really struggled to get the wifi working properly but that may have been a China access issue
It is worth paying for a premium room that has views down Nanjing Rd to Pudong buildings. Spectacular

Lovely rooms and nice dining options, but the only way of describing this hotel is slightly odd.
It smacks of a budget brand to arrive at check in and to be told nothing can be done to check you in until 3pm. Appreciate this is a set time, but to show zero flexibility and not to even check the room type is bad customer service and something I have never experienced with Hilton before.
Gold member and upgraded to a Premier Room, nice large bed, seating area and lovely bathroom. Great views from the floor to ceiling windows. Good coffee machine, perfect for the jet lag! No lounge access offered but breakfast given in the restaurant.
Went up the roof top bar/restaurant, £10 for a bottle of Corona. Went to pay to be told they aren’t part of the hotel, can’t charge to the room and no cash taken. So take a credit card/Ali pay.
We went downstairs to Level 1 restaurant for dinner. Lovely seafood/hot pot buffet, with added drinks add on option. Really nice and great service from the restaurant manager.
The next morning we had an early flight to catch but quickly visited breakfast and enjoyed good coffee and a lot of choices.
Location great, 10 min walk from the Bund, 45 mins in a taxi to Pudong Airport and about £18.
A nice hotel, just lacking any sort of welcoming hospitality on arrival, which puts me off returning.

Kelly from the front desk was very welcoming and checked me into a newly renovated room with an excellent view, accommodating my request for a high floor. The rooms were always immaculately made up when I returned to the room in the evening each day. One of the female team members in the executive lounge remembered my beer order on the first day, and would ask me whether I would like a beer whenever she saw me enter the lounge. It is such small gestures that keep me coming back.

In two words, extremely disappointing.
I live in shanghai together with my wife and 2 year old daughter and booked this hotel for one night. Main reason was that i need one last stay of the year to retain diamond status. We were excited for our staycation in the middle of the city center. Turns out we should not have been excited.
The lobby is located on the 11th floor and needs 2 elevators from parking lot to get there. Upon check in we kindly asked for an upgrade to a suite, considering diamond status. Until now i have not once been refused an upgrade to a suite in mainland china nor in hong kong. This is always arranged. We especially asked for this because we would like our daughter to sleep in a different room. We were told this is not possible, only for additional pay. Again, first time this happens. We asked for a different room that has a separate area (They have these, not suites but different type of room), again told we need to pay extra. While i was disappointed i understand that being a diamond member does not give you the “right” to s suite upgrade so we decided to let it go.
Then came the real disappointment. In the booking we had asked for a baby crib. During check in we asked if this bed was already arranged. The lady asked how old our daughter was, upon telling her around 2 years old she mentioned the hotel does not have any beds available for children this age, only for kids up to 1 year old. Seriously??? Again, more than 40 nights in hilton hotels in china and not once did i have this issue. We asked how they could solve this but they did not have a solution. For us this was the final straw and we asked to cancel the room. The lady was receptive and immediately arranged the cancellation, free of charge. Thanks for that.
Sorry to say i am extremely disappointed and will never go to this hotel, nor will i ever advise it to friends or family. Maybe better this hotel changes to garden inn or hampton brand, that would make more sense i think. Not conrad worthy.

In general, I liked the hotel, but it clearly does not reach 5 stars; its level is a confident 4 stars. The advantages are spacious and clean rooms, a varied breakfast, responsive staff at the reception in the person of Alena and other employees who help solve problems. The downside is that the rooms are a bit dirty in some places, the furniture is badly damaged in some places.

I stayed at Conrad Guangzhou last time and had a wonderful stayed. So I’ve chosen Conrad Shanghai for my business stay for 3 nights. I was looking forward to it.
Location: 4/5 walkable distance to the bund, convenient location with lots of shops right outside the hotel
Arrival: 4/5 did help with my luggage upon get off car
Check in Service: 3/5 polite with good service and asked if I have waited long. however did not really explain the hotel facilities, amenities, executive floor etc. just passed me the card and I need to find the way to the room. Seems under staffs
Room Service: 2/5 not good experience with the attitude of the staff through the phone, not welcoming communication especially a female staff call “Frankie” (not sure if this is her real name)
Hotel facilities: 3/5 Nice design, modern, but AC not working well, from check in lobby, lift lobby to rooms. it’s an issue especially in this hot weather. Nice view in the executive floor, good selection of food
Room: 3/5 nice design but not well maintained, can improve on cleaning. There were hair on the bed, AC issue with stuffy room. Have to change the room. Liked the Byredo shower set, but low quality of hair dryer! Only works for 3 mins and have to cool it down for 10 mins. Tooks me long time to get my hair dry
Attention: 2/5 Got an uncut fruits platter without providing any cutlery? and sent thru during DND on. That might not be appropriate given the do not disturb mode is on.
Overall:
Pros- Convenient location, nice view, nice design of the hotel and rooms, quiet room, good selection of pillows
Cons- Staff training is needed on ALL service level. A BIG improvement is needed and can be easily done.
5 stars view and location. Not 5 stars hotel quality and service.
Under par Conrad

I can't recommend this hotel, given the price point. I've stayed for a number of weeks, in different stays. This review reflects my experience over those multiple stays.
-Elevator system is convoluted, you have to take multiple different elevator rides to get to your room.
-The rooms themselves are poorly maintained. The renovations the hotel recently went through seem impressive at surface level, but the quality of the fixtures and fittings is, overall, poor.
-The food is abysmal. It really is very bad. The hotel has 3 restaurants and none are up to the standard of Conrads internationally.
-The staff are well-intentioned but very poorly trained. It seems like a hospitality school. Example: I ordered room service, a sandwich and a bottle of wine. The room service is delivered in a very unappealing way, a hot sandwich that is now cold covered in saran wrap. And a bottle of red wine that is ice cold. There is no bottle opener in the room and the wine is a cork. I ask the staff member to open the wine. He nods in acknowledgment and leaves. 30 minutes pass. I call room service and ask for them to bring up a bottle opener. 30 more minutes pass. I give up and go to sleep.
-Don't expect much, or any, English language capability from the staff.
-The breakfast buffet at the main restaurant on the lobby level was just nasty. Dozens of dirty, uncleared tables, poor quality of food, no way to get coffee or a drink. It felt like a school cafeteria. Again, not up to Conrad standard. The staff simply struggle with the demand as the hotel has many rooms.
The bright point is the exec lounge on level 44. The staff there are delightful. I had breakfast there most mornings and they do 'happy hour' drinks.

This was previously Le Meridian but now converted to CONRAD. Refurbished and very neat. Checked in at the Executive Lounge was quick and easy. Room was modern, contemporary and clean. From my window I had city / park but in the Executive Lounge the view of Huangpu River was fabulous. During my stay I spent a fair bit of time in the lounge to conduct my business. Special mention must be given to Natalie & Kelly for their attentive service. Probably with their face mask on, I got them mixed up but they both are as equally good. Vicky and Nellie are part of the team and they are as attentive though I didn’t interact with them much. The Executive Lounge serve breakfast, afternoon tea and evening social hours - the chef deserve praise for the extensive effort. I did breakfast at the all day dinning located on the “L” level. Lots of variety and service was immaculate.
Generally cannot find any fault and shall be looking forward to my next stay.

The location was excellent, extremely convenient with easy access to the Shanghai Metro, bus stations, and it is located right where Nanjing road meets Peoples Square. Executive Lounge was good with excellent staff, but restaurants were kind of pricey for what you received. Rooms were clean and there was a decent Gym.
