The Westin Chennai Velachery stands out as an inviting retreat praised for its cleanliness and comfortable ambiance, though some decor may feel dated. Its prime location garners appreciation, offering guests convenient proximity to shopping, the city, and the airport. Guests commend the value provided by the hotel, highlighting cost-effective dining and membership perks, despite some qualms about the price of in-room dining. The rooms earn acclaim for their cleanliness and modern amenities, although occasional maintenance issues are noted. Service at the Westin is consistently celebrated for its warmth and professionalism, with the occasional slow response being a minor drawback. The hotel's array of amenities, including the luxurious spa, fitness center, and diverse dining options, adds to the overall positive experience.

We stayed for 7 nights in a street side suite that was very comfortable with a king size bed and good block out curtains. The bathroom was huge which was lovely but I would have preferred some additional space for seating in the room and a smaller bathroom. Despite the double glazed windows it was impossible to block out all the street noise of the constant honking horns.
Breakfast was amazing. Dedicated stations for both south and north Indian foods as well as classic European fare, omelettes, pancakes and bakery. The staff were helpful and guided us with local delicacies.
A choice of onsite dining was good. We only ate dinner at MKC as the other options were overpriced in our view. On the two occasions we stayed at the hotel to eat the MKC meals were tasty. Alcohol is expensive compared to food.
We enjoyed time relaxing at the pool in a good location that was sheltered from the intense heat.
The hotel vehicles were useful and we hired a car with driver on a few occasions to do some sightseeing trips in and out of Chennai. It was much cheaper to order an Uber for short trips within the city to get around.
Staying in Velachery was a decision based around work but we found the hotel to feel remote when accessing the rest of Chennai as a tourist. Traffic is horrendous and it could take just under an hour to travel 9km. At best allow 30 mins to get to most places of interest.
Westin Chennai Velachery was a lovely oasis for us to retreat to after a hot and humid days in a city that is hard to describe. If anything, the attention from staff was over bearing at times but I think this is a 'westerners' perspective of life and a need to adjust to a different culture. Unfortunately I found it very uncomfortable on several occasions.

I visited this hotel twice in a period of 2 months. On my recent stay I spent 12 nights at the hotel. Overall my second stay was a lot better than the first stay, as I was given a non carpeted room (the smell in the carpeted rooms is unbearable). The hotel staff are all very lovely and making an effort to make your stay special. The food at the hotel is great and staff take an effort to cater for dietary requirements. I had a chance to dine at all of the hotel restaurants and all of them were great, with Sunset Grill being my favourite. The downside of the hotel is that the property is quite run down (initially I thought it was a takeover of another hotel but learnt that this is not the case). In comparison to other Westins (I stayed at 4 different Westins in the past year), the facilities in this hotel don’t meet the Westin’s brand standard like a tiny gym, run down pool area and pool accessories, limited spa facilities, and smell of mould in carpeted corridors. This is why I am giving this hotel a 4 as I feel that it needs some renovation in order to be in line with other Westin locations around the globe. Overall I had a great stay and will return to the Westin on my next trip to Chennai. Notable staff on this trip were Zuali from the spa and Narayan the chef. Well done for your exceptional service!

I frequently travel to Chennai and have tried a number of luxury hotels in Chennai, This time I booked two rooms at The Westin Chennai Velachery for two nights while coming back from TIRUMALA. We were welcomed with a refreshing drink on our arrival, There was a minor confusion/glitch in our booking which was promptly sorted by the friendly Mr. Shubham in no time, Check in was smooth and welcoming. My request for late check out was also happily accepted without any hesitation.

Well Let's talk about the property, Westin Chennai Velachery is a classy, beautiful and modern hotel with fresh and spacious rooms and bathroom. Happy to see that All the required covid-19 protocols are being followed religiously here

Breakfast and Dinner buffet at seasonal tastes was very good with a decent variety of lip smacking and hygienic north & south Indian food. I also had the chance to visit Willows Bar and Madras Kitchen Company, The standard of services and courtesy practiced by the staff at all these places is exceptionally high and the food and drinks served are top notch.

Am already looking forward for my next stay in this hotel whenever I get a chance to visit Chennai in the future. My search for a nice and comfortable hotel in Chennai FINALLY ends here....

P.S. A big shout out again for Mr. Shubham at the Reception for his exceptional zeal to make the hotel guests happy and satisfied with their stay. People like him play a great role in bringing back guests to the hotel again and again.

Westin Chennai has a six hour package if you want to spend special days away from home but not from the city. The charges are very nominal. The service is very good. We have had an upgrade in the room and most of our requests including the inroom dining was brought promptly. The furniture, chairs and tables were very comfortable incase if we need to work or just relax. Both the suite rooms and clubroom had bath tubs which was exciting. They even provided us with south Indian snacks as complimentary since we stayed on Tamil New Year's day. Since we live in Covid times, they clean, disinfect very frequently. The check in process hardly took five minutes and it was similar case during check out too. Unfortunately the roof top grill was closed during our stay but we had a great time in Madras Kitchen Company.

A wonderful dinner with knowledgable service person made all the difference. Seeing that we are children at heart, he even gave us lot of candies when we paid the bill.

Some of the corridors are dimly lit and the AC is being used sparingly in the first and second floor.

I will definitely want to stay there again during weekends to experience the sunset grill, the spa and the bar., basically the things we missed this time.

From Canada, I booked two rooms for two nights, directly with The Westin Chennai-Velachery. I produced my Canadian passport while checking in on December 29th, but was told that I needed to show my visa or any other relevant document, such as an OCI or a PIO document. The Reservation Confirmation email that I received from The Westin Chennai-Velachery did not state that I had to produce these documents while checking in. I explained that I had stayed at The Ritz-Carlton for 3 nights the previous weekend, and their Reservation Confirmation email had clearly stated that overseas citizens needed to produce their passports, so I had assumed that my passport would suffice at this hotel as well. I told the front desk associate that my PIO card was in the safe at our family home in Madurai, that all family members were traveling by road and would reach Madurai only late that night, that only the four of us had stayed back in Chennai, that there was no way I could produce a hard copy of my PIO, as well as my son’s, right away, but the associate would not process the check in, stating that he needed to see the documents as per hotel rules. (Note: Two other family members had their valid Indian IDs.)

I asked to speak to the associate’s Supervisor, and I explained the situation once again to Mr. Rajesh, to no avail. I showed the Ritz reservation email on my iPhone as proof of what I had stated earlier of a passport being needed for check in and my thinking it would be the same here as well, but was told that it was hotel policy and I could not check in, at which point I said that I could not stay on the road until someone could bring it to me from Madurai. At this point, I woke up my husband in Canada in the middle of the night and asked him to send me a copy of the passports and PIOs (mine and my son’s), and was shocked when I was told that they would not accept soft copies, and needed only hard copies. I found this utterly ridiculous since we live in a digital age, and one is normally allowed to scan a boarding pass on one’s phone in order to board a plane, but here the hotel was insisting on a hard copy of our IDs to check us into our rooms.

Long story short, with the soft copies, I was finally allowed to check in, on condition that I produced the hard copies by next morning. My family reached Madurai by 11 PM, opened the safe, took out our PIO cards and my son’s passport, and sent them with our domestic helper by the 11:45 bus. I was able to produce the hard copies at the front desk the next morning, after so much of tension and unnecessary stress. While I fully understand the hotel’s policy and requirements for check in, all this hassle could’ve been avoided if only their email had included an extra sentence about what kind of identification documents guests had to produce at check in.

I also learned through my check in woes that not all Marriott Bonvoy hotels have the same requirements about guest IDs. The hotel stay after that was very pleasant, I must add, but the initial check in woes sort of soured my overall experience at this hotel, unfortunately.

If you're looking for a good hotel to stay in when you're in Chennai I would recommend the Westin Chennai Velachery. The rates are very reasonable for what you get - a good sized room, large bathroom, comfortable beds, useful facilities (WiFi, bottled water, mini fridge, toiletries, etc) - and the restaurants and room service do the job. The hotel is very clean, and the housekeeping staff are exceptional (I am always greeted with an animal shaped from towels when I return from work which is an art!). This is my go-to hotel for business trips.

The people are very helpful and kind and treat you with warmth.
The breakfast spread is amazing (even if a bit repetitive) - my personal favourite has to be French toasts from the desserts live station (among others).
I forgot to ask her name but the lady handling the desserts station was very kind each and every day and even offered to pack something as breakfast for our early morning flight.
The rooms always felt fresh, clean and cozy.
The staff pays attention to detail and after the first time we requested for a room freshener on day 1 we always came back to the same freshner each day after room service - never had to repeatedly request anything.
We also availed the Spa services and had a very relaxing spa and the team was very kind and accommodated all our requests.
The reception desk is also quite helpful and quick and I was done with my early morning checkout in what seems like the fastest I've ever experienced.
The swimming pool is also pretty good and the view is pretty nice.
The location is amazing since the Phoenix Marketcity mall is within walking distance and it's easy to catch a cab/auto from the hotel or the mall. Lots of restaurants nearby too.

The only con in my opinion is that the swimming pool isn't very deep - maxes out at 4 feet. Also it tends to attract some dry leaves from the trees planted nearby.

Great place for family friends and business lunches and dinner. Great service by Buddhadev and excellent food by Chef Murugan.
It will be better of they display the cuisine name next to buffet and to refil the forks, knifes and spoons often when plte changes.

We had a wonderful experience during our stay at the Hotel , service was excellent, Rooms were spic and span , and comfortable too. we enjoyed our buffet dinner and break fast , with good spread of food including desserts, Special mention needs to be said about The Restaurant Manager Rohan who took our table bookings , was warm and welcoming ,also for taking individual care of us, Chef Biju Philiph came to our table and was personally enquiring about the food and its quality and made sure we were happy with the food, he also spent some time discussing with us the preparation of certain dishes .The services of koushik needs special mention for his swift services and also Junior Chef Shri Naga she was taking care of the south Indian breakfast and it was really tasty. The gym area covers almost all major exercise routine. House keeping was good in particular vidhya was very effective in her services and the other staffs and bell boys were warm and always welcoming . overall a relaxing experience.

This is my second stay at WESTIN CHENNAI. I say, their hospitality is awesome andthebestin Chennai. The cost benefits are huge. This is an excellent hotel, good location, great ambience, gastronomic food, overwhelming hospitality, the personal care by the staff will make you feel like kings and queens, the toiletries provided on complimentary are far far superior to those given by the top hotels of Chennai, the rooms are extremely comfortable, the hotel staff are so friendly that you feel more comfortable than staying in your own home. Simply best hotel in Chennai, everyone should experience the WESTIN hospitality to believe it.
