Being near the Chennai Central railway station is a great convenience. So is the fact that check out is on 24 hours basis.

Attracted by the very good Tripadvisor rating, I spent a day there recently. The hotel is sandwiched between a local train line and a busy main road. So the choice of rooms is like choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea! The rooms are fairly well insulated for noise, and the noise did not bother me. Check - in was handled very efficiently and smoothly.

The lobby is decorated with a photgraphic mural of Bells. The owner of the hotel manufactures 'Bell Pins' in Sivakasi. Hence the name. There are artistic photographs of the best features of Chennai all over the hotel. There is also an interesting Chandelier along the staircase.

The room was smaller than expected. It was very clean and well maintained. The toilet too was well outfitted with very good plumbing. As soon as I walked into the room, I was struck by a bold sign which said ' No Room Service'. However, since there was a tea maker in the room, I did not mind too much.

There is a good restaurant on the ground floor with very good service. The complimentary Breakfast was sumptuous South Indian fare. The waiters are very helpful and courteous. In fact one of them coaxed me into having 'Sex on the beach' - seems to be a popular lime based drink in Chennai !

Wifi is chargeable. I did not have a good connection, despite buying a 2 hour coupon for Rs 100. All in all - a decent place near the station if you are on work!

The location, the food and the comfort were excellent.
Particular thanks should go to the dining room staff for their helpful suggestions and the front office who were helpful and obliging no matter what the time of day or night.
Great variety of transport at the door.Liked the idea of a small bar next door.

We had by far bigger expectations, reading Tripadvisor members' comments and the ranking of the hotel in Chennai. First of all this is a hotel and not a B&B or a pension. Secondly, the service and the standard of the rooms is definitely in the indian average, even a bit below considering the intense smell of antibacteria cleaning products you can feel in the rooms. The rooms are dark and needing manteinance. Not really an experience to be remembered.

Best hotel near Central Railway Station. Only problem with this hotel is they have only limited items in buffet. Apart from that the hotel is good to stay. Room tariffs are also affordable. This is one of the good hotels I have stayed in Chennai. The tariff also less when you compare with other hotels located near by.

We stayed there from 10th of August to 13th of August, Room no 109 The hotel is very close to the Central and the Park station.

The rooms are nicely decorated with all the modem amenities, comfortable beds, 32 inch LCD tvs with usb option, nice air conditioning and with a nice washroom with glass bath panel in it.

We actually booked it through Cleartip so got some initial discounts while booking. The room service is pretty good..... really amazed by the perfect spotless clean rooms all the times.
Mani from the front desk was extremely helpful.

I am rail loving fan, so watching trains right next from the window is simply a delight to me. Complementary breakfast was good but it almost has the same type of southern menu all days. I would suggest to add some cut fruits, sausages etc. Otherwise taste wise it was pretty good.

I would certainly recommend all to stay at this hotel ..... and hope to visit again....
Keep up the good work :)

Very near to Chennai central. About 5 minutes walk. Stayed in deluxe single room (no. 118). Room was spacious with very nice spring mattress, LCD TV, hot water kettle. Very importantly the working table and chair was very good. Good south Indian stuff at buffet breakfast (complementary). Positive points very near to Chennai central, Egmore and park town railway stations. Staff's are very courteous. What I don't like was - no free Wi-Fi. Overall it is a good place to stay with family.

First, how good it was to be greeted by a most gracious lady at reception. A pity more hotels don't follow the Bell Hotel's example, and employ more women in administrative positions of responsibility. So for me the Bell Hotel was off to a good start.

The room allocated to me, 309, was well designed, with excellent mattress, large mirror, desk, very comfortable chair, a bench for luggage, tea/coffee-making facilities, good lighting, and several attractive photos and paintings by way of decor.. The large flat-screen television provided very good reception, and you are offered a card with channels listed. Whilst potentially a very useful guide, I found the listing for BBC World inaccurate (if, like me, you want to keep up-to-date with what's happening in the rest of the world, you will find the BBC on channel 319). Alas, no Al Jazeera news channel was available, which was a little disappointing.
The bathroom s very good: a large basin, bench space, an excellent shower screen, and flushing toilet. As in so many hotels throughout the world, you waste a lot of water waiting for the hot water to eventually reach your room. I chose to have a luke-warm shower, rather than waste any more water.

The restaurant in the adjacent building provides very good food for the evening meal, and has helpful and attentive staff to serve it. Similarly, the buffet breakfast is very good.

The Bell Hotel faces on to a busy road, and backs on to a major railway line. The sound proofing is such that the road noise quite simply wasn't apparent. The trains create a bit of a rumble in the room as they pass, but this was not bothersome; I scarcely noticed this after the first couple of trains.

The only suggestion I would make to improve the room would be to give it a coat of paint; the walls were looking rather shabby.

The Bell Hotel is very well located, being a 10 minute walk from Park Railway station. If you use the local train to travel to or from the Airport, then this is very convenient. The hotel is also very close to Central Station:- the station from which long-distance trains run. Given this great location, tariffs are vety modest. Buses from the bus terminal also run past the door.

In sum, a very good choice if you are looking for a mid-priced hotel in Chennai.

I had booked a double room in this hotel for attending a conference in Chennai one month prior to my arrival. I and my cousin sister, both in our early twenties were attending this conference.

However, the day we arrived, the receptionist refused to give us a room because apparently they couldn't allow two unmarried people of different genders to stay together even if they are cousins!
They were not even ready to provide us with two single rooms. During booking, the ages and genders were provided and the hotel never mentioned anything then about there being a problem.

Finally, we were left without a place to stay, at 10pm at night and that too in an alien city. Because we didn't have any other reservation, it was only with great difficulty that we managed to find a hotel. And that too was well above our budget.

It is very disappointing to see that a hotel of such good repute would be this careless and shake the trust of customers who choose this hotel. It was a terrible mistake to go for Bell Central!

This place is close to the Chennai Central railway station, but getting there by walk is anything but tedious and in some instances outright dangerous. We choose to walk as this was recommended by the Hotel staff. As soon as you get out of the railway station you need to take an overbridge just in from of the Chennai Suburban Train terminus. This crosses over the extremely busy Poonamallee high road and leaves you on the westbound lane of the road. From there you need to walk westbound for about 10min to reach this place. There are no sidewalks meaning you need to pretty much walk on the road with the flowing westbound traffic behind you! There were road works going on when we visited and sections of the road close to the shoulder were dugout. This made it outright dangerous as we had to walk pretty much in the line of the chaotic traffic. We were really relieved that we made it to this place.

The hotel itself is pretty good. The girl at the front desk was helpful and cordial. You're asked to fill in a check-in form with your details and produce a piece of identification. Once we were through with this we were whisked to out room. We stayed in room 215 and my first impressions of the room was it very much needed a paint job. The ceiling looked a bit rustic and old. But other than that the room provided was neat and tidy. So was the bathroom. What impressed me the most was the force of the water through the shower and taps. This was not a road facing room but it does face the suburban train tracks. The noise from the rumbling of the trains still filters through into the room. Its not loud but its still audible. When your in the bathroom and have north and south bound trains crisscrossing outside, you can feel the sink vibrate. Its not that much as to unsettle you. The air-conditioning in the room is pretty solid and believe me for a city like Chennai this is a godsend. The WiFi in this room does not work. This was my biggest downside in this room. We had to walk outside into the lobby in order to get connectivity. There was also a little puddle of water formed outside the room when we were using the A/C inside. This probably is a drip-drip from the overhead a/c plumbing. At night sometimes mosquitoes get into the room. Mosquito repellent is not a standard in the room. We had to call room service to provide us with one.

We tried the restaurant downstairs for our lunch & dinner. Must say its very good. The food was reasonably priced and delicious. The service was spot-on and that's what impressed me the most. The complementary breakfast provided at the same place the next morning was also good, although its really surprising that their continental buffet does not serve orange juice. They give you other flavors but believe me they no good. The other thing its lacks in the mornings is a coffee machine. You'll have to pass on your request for coffee to the staff and wait for a good deal to get yours. For a guy like me who is addicted to morning caffeine it was a bit tortuous. Also the quantity of coffee provided is small. But still I would recommend the restaurant.

On the whole I would say that this place is a good value for the money that you spend.

Visited and stayed in Nov 2016.

I dont know if it is in the vicinity of Appolo but it does not have cooking facility in the room.Wifi speed is good.Since the hotel is just beside the main road and chennai has ola and uber cab services you should not feel any problem reaching in any part of the city. The hotel provides best services and rooms within a budget price..
