I’d rate this 4 starts for a hostel. Very basic amenities, though the rooftop terrace with the white rabbit hopping around was a treasure and the decor was funky fun. Rooms clean enough, shower mostly had hot water. Lady at front desk very friendly and helpful. Pretty close to the market.

This is a funky hostel, with a super fun vibe, comfortable rooms, and friendly staff. The rooftop common area has great views, and the bathrooms are exceptionally clean. The location is close to everything, and a short walk to tons of restaurants and the famous market.

We spent 3 nights at the Flying Donkey Hostal and it was very good.

It's only a few blocks from the market and a similar distance to the main square. There are several restaurants within a few blocks as well and a minimart a block away.

The room was clean and the shower had hot water. We had a twin room with private bathroom but they have dorm rooms as well.

They don't serve breakfast but they do have a nicely equipped shared kitchen. The views from the rooftop terrace are very nice as well.

The manager and staff whilst not speaking English where helpful and welcoming.

We'd definitely stay there again if we were in Otavalo.

We had a great stay at Flying Donkey, the staff are amazing particularly Paul who helped us to plan the rest of our Ecuador trip for which we will be forever grateful to him!

The rooms and clean and comfortable, the bathrooms are clean with piping hot showers and the hostel itself is quiet and tranquil. Superb location as well, will recommend to friends.

Some of the less than positive comments on the FD are regarding the noise. Yep, Av Calderon is quite noisy. The FD has done their best to mitigate this by installing attractive wood shutters to block out the light and noise (i.e. Rm 12). However, it is an impossibly noisy street. The good news is that the noise dies down ~ 10pm and commences ~ 5:30am. I would stay there again. Just not in a room facing Av Calderon.

We stayed in a big double room. place enough. Hot shower.Very helpfull people. Terras is nice. You will maybe need some earplugs, but if you are tired enough this is the best place in town to visit the Saterday market.

While in Otavalo we based ourselves at the Flying Donkey Hostal, which was located a block away from the central plaza and a short walking distance to the Saturday market. The hostal was comfortable and secure with hot water, decent wifi, kitchen facilities and a rooftop terrace. It was uniquely decorated with vintage quirky finds and handmade furniture. The manager, Paul, lives onsite and was always friendly and helpful with information on activities in the surrounding area.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for the markets on the weekend and would definitely stay again. We were checked into our room quite early, as we had caught an overnight bus from Colombia and were wrecked. Staff were very helpful. You are right next to the markets on the weekend, which makes it easy if you need to duck back for a break or to drop off anything you've purchased!
