We were warned not to open the windows because of the lake flies, so we didn't. We only needed a place to sleep and wash up, and this older place worked out just fine and was cost-friendly. The front desk isn't manned 24/7, and they called us upon reservation to be sure we would be arriving before they closed for the night - so no problems there. No complaints!
This motel is just steps from the lake the view is amazing! Room had a nice patio, with chairs. There is a fire pit by the beach with chairs. The room itself was nothing great, outdated and the patio would not close tightly. The room clean and well kept. The closeness to the water and crashing of the waves is amazing
My friend raved about this motel. I'm sure glad I listened to her. Our room faced the lake. The views were amazing! We were able to have a fire on the beach which was so relaxing. Bring your own wood. I slept well, listening to the sound of the waves. The bathroom needs a little TLC, but otherwise my stay was perfect. Would recommend this motel to my friends & family.
When you check in you are told not to open the patio door after dusk due to lake flies. Disappointing to hear, since I had a room facing the lake. I checked in around 3:30-3:45pm (not dusk) and opened the patio door (with the screen closed) for literally 30 seconds and the room and bathroom were filled with them - hundreds. I ran out and bought bug spray and still didn’t kill all of them. Only good thing is they seem to stay on the ceiling (while alive) but still gross. Even more gross was the lobby area - I guess I misunderstood that the room had no microwave, you have to use the one in the lobby. Went to warm up some food and flies (dead and alive) were INSIDE the microwave. I wanted to give 1 star because it was so horrendous but I get that it’s nature and out of the control of the motel owner. But I was pretty much grossed out the entire time I was in the room.…
Went here with my boyfriend for a door county vacation. From the moment we walked into the room we new we made a bad choice for a stay. There were cobwebs in the corner with dead bugs, floor looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed in a long time, sheets had large stains on them and there was pubic hair in the bathtub. My boyfriend went to the desk to complain about the room and the management was very nasty. The only thing this place had going for it was the view of the lake.
We have stayed at this hotel many times and are always happy to return here. The view of Lake Michigan from the rooms is breathtaking. The hotel is right on the beach so it’s wonderful to be able to beach comb as well as go swimming. We also enjoy the ability to have a campfire and to simply relax. The Manager, Mack, goes out of his way to make you feel welcome.
Amazing as always, the hotel has made some really nice improvements and how can you complain about a lake Michigan View from your own balcony. We have stayed here 4 times in 2 years and our room was improved so pretty. And the beach was so nice. So many people having fires at night.
I took my girlfriend to Chicago for her birthday and decided to take a side trip up to Wisconsin to explore the Door County area. We checked in around 8:30pm and left the hotel around 9:00pm to get drinks and dinner in the nearby town. We returned to the room around 2:00am to find that the room had been completely overrun by small black insects. It literally looked like something out of a horror movie, and the creepiest part is that all windows and doors were completely closed so the only explanation is that the creatures had come through a hole in the wall somewhere. We left the hotel in the dead of night and found accommodations elsewhere. I called the morning at 6am to explain the situation to them, they said they would call back. When I didn't hear back, I called again at 7:16am and was told I would receive a call back. At this point we left the town and went to green bay to get a room there. I called the hotel again at 2:02pm and was still given the runaround - that there was no manager available, and that a message had been left and that someone would call me... The next day on 7/13 I called the hotel again and was given the same run around. At this point I have yet to hear from the hotel and am now handling the situation with my bank.... I stay in many hotels, because I travel for work and my girlfriend and I love to travel. I have never in my life had such a terrifying and overall disgusting hotel experience in my life.…
We enjoyed our 3 night stay that was very last minute. I was very happy with the room we were able to reserve being lakeside with a balcony. The accommodations and location were perfect and so close to town, you could walk down the beach or a beautiful path. The only thing I can say that was missing was a personal coffee maker in the room, however they do serve coffee in the lobby which is great tasting! We would definitely go back here to stay.
Haven’t been to this place in over 20 years and boy o boy has it gone downhill. Old outdated and worn out mattresses with broken springs in them. TV in the room was almost 20 years old and had a terrible picture. Screen door was almost impossible to open without breaking it. The only positive was the view from the balcony if you had a lakefront room. The wreaked of mold the minute we opened the door upon check in. What this place needs most of all is for the new owners to spend some time and money and restore it to what it used to be as I’ve been coming to this town and this motel for the better part of the last 40 years.
