I do like the upgraded look of the RI at this location. Bigger than some other ones I've been to. Staff were all nice. Facility/Premise was very clean. Like that it's near dining, drug stores and small local markets for your personal needs. Metro nearby. Indoor pool with lifeguard was noted. Perk: Compared to other RI's this had ample amount of washers & dryers which was great and no 'line' to do laundry. The biggest thing I'd advise or recommend for improvement are: There are no trash cans noted indoors to get rid of waste unless you're in your own room or in the garage/basement. This was very annoying. Again, comparing to other RI locations I didn't like that coffee / tea station was unavailable or not placed 24-7 in a local spot. It was only offered during breakfast time for a short duration. This was my biggest negative that I didn't like. Yes, I know it's in my room but still like having different options. Lastly, the housekeeping staff were not on top of things at this location compared to others. I'd call front desk and they never show up at time of wanting service and was difficult coordinating having a toddler with sleep schedule etc.

I think I've found my new favorite place to stay while in D.C. Located a little more than half a block from the silver and orange Metros (and 20 min from D.C.), you've also got a choice of several cuisines and shops, a 24-hour CVS, and an AMC movie theater within a 2-block radius. Internet leaves much to be desired (but I find that to be the case at most Marriotts). All in all, a good value. METRO INFO: Use the 3rd car from back TO the hotel if coming from Amtrak or the airport to the Court House stop. Use the elevator to the right after getting to top of FIRST escalator. Make a left when you get off the elevator. You can either continue to the corner, make a left after Fireworks Pizza, and enter thru the North Adams St entrance or make a left at either of first two opportunities to enter Courthouse Plaza (and explore the restaurants and shops on the way) and enter thru back of the short lobby. I found it to feel safe even when traveling at night.

We got a great view out of our windows. The room was spacious and came with kitchen supplies needed if cooking something in the rooms. Our room smelled a little fishy though which was quite irritating. The basic room temperatures around the hotel is at 75 degrees but they have a little control by the door you can maneuver to turn the fan on and make it either colder or hotter for the room. Once you turn it off, it goes back to the hotel's temperature. The fan blew a bit of dust, I discovered, as I woke up to a dusty nightstand after leaving the fan on overnight so I hope they clean off the filters next time or the air ducts. The room came equipped with shampoo, conditioner, and body soap as well. On the sink, there is a bar soap and a small lotion bottle. You can ask the front desk for toothbrushes, if they had any, and it apparently was complimentary so they gave us some right there. Shower pressure was adequate and temperature was good as well. Toilet pressure could be better. The hotel was also right by the courtyard where there's a FedEx directly out of one of the exits, a few restaurants you can eat at, a dry cleaning service, a small convenience store, and a salon. These direct amenities outside the hotel made the experience worthwhile as it was convenient if we wanted to stay in the hotel room for a break instead of wandering around the city. A little walk would also get you to bars around the area, Whole Foods Market, and a few more restaurants and cafes. I love this location! Parking was also skimpy so it was a good thing I had a compact vehicle. The little area you can park at in front of the hotel to check-in was minimal. I wish it was wider and had a lot more space. The gym only had a few equipments but not a lot of people use it either so it was understandable. The pool area can get crowded during the weekends when families take a short vacation but during the weekdays when they all clear out, there's barely anyone in the area. The only downside about that is it opens at 5pm-10pm during the weekdays and 10am-10pm during the weekends. There is also a lifeguard on duty everytime it's open which is a bit weird as I haven't seen a hotel do that before but it is for the comfort for those who have kids or if there's an accident that happen. The breakfast was decent. They change out two meat selections everyday but the rest doesn't change. They have two waffle makers. People are usually in line for it on peak days and hours during breakfast. They have at least 3-4 choices of cereals too. They have a few pastries and bread, toaster on the side. Yogurt selections and a few fruits to eat. Hard boiled eggs, scrambled egg, and egg whites are also available which I loved. You can also make your own wrap and they have a few condiments for it on the side. Also, during Tuesday nights, they have free dinner from 6pm-7pm which they usually have posted by the elevator. They serve wine that night too. All-in-all, my experience was superb! The location wasn't that far from Downtown DC if you drive or take an Uber/Lyft. You can also walk around the area and eat, drink, or get some needed supplies. They have limited spots for parking so I could just imagine the frustration when the hotel is at it's peak. Room could have been refreshed from the fishy smell and cleaned a bit more as I saw what seemed like a wine stain by the headboard of the bed. Fan's airfilters or airducts should also be dusted. But the service in this hotel was amazing. Front desk staff everyday was very helpful!

We are Marriott Platinum members and booked this hotel as we wanted to visit our recently deceased 2 star general marine grandfather the following day at Arlington Nat'l Cemetery. We saw they were dog friendly so booked the hotel expecting maybe the normal $25-$50 dog fee on top of our reservation cost. We got there to find out its $150 plus $20 cleaning fee plus tax. Thats around $175 total just to bring our dog. at that rate, she should be getting her own room! We were told its a fixed fee so we went ahead and booked a different hotel. When they realized we were cancelling our reservation, they told us they could do the fee for $100. No thanks. Instead we booked at Westin arlington gateway which was $0 dog fee and they upgraded us to a suite for being platinum. Thats how you are supposed to treat your top-status loyal guests!

Dear James G Thank you for contacting us about your experience during your recent stay with us. As you described in your statement, our multi-million renovation combined with the special cleaning needed when pets are involved drove our pet fee up. It is still competitive when compared to other hotels in the area. I understand how frustrated it could be to have to pay extra for your pet, being a pet owner myself. In rooms details segment on our website, you'll see our pet policy and fees. I can assure you that we will share your comments with our ownership team. Upholding our commitment to provide excellent services, please feel free to reach out to me directly whenever your travel brings you back in the area for any special accommodation. Sincerely, Romeo Adankpo Front Office Manager Residence Inn Arlington Courthouse 1401 North Adams Street Arlington, VA 22201 (703)312-2102 T (703)248-9616 F

I am very picky and brutally honest with my reviews since I also rely substantially on what other reviewers think. I am a tough customer where I stay and would only give a place 5 stars if I couldn’t find anything to complain about! PROS are: 1) great LOCATION. We stayed here several days and got to know the are pretty quick. We felt safe here and just a few steps away from Washington Metro transit, a couple of eating places, salons, and a convenient little market/deli. Within a couple of blocks from this hotel, there is a Nice little playground, CVS, Urgent Care, and a Whole Foods store. 2) the STAFF is incredibly friendly. We appreciated that all of our needs were either met or exceeded. 3) the ROOMS were not immaculate, but clean enough for my high standards- no hair or fingerprints left behind and all the linens in our room looked fresh. The beds were very comfortable. We did not have a problem with hallway noise, but we bring white noise machines with us- always. 4) the BREAKFAST was better than many comparable hotels. I appreciated that their eggs weren’t swimming in grease, and didn’t have “extras” mixed in that kids don’t like- or some adults for that matter! They had a different meat each morning and all were pretty good considering we are healthy eaters- we can’t tolerate cheesy greasy food! They also had toast, waffles, cereal, fruit, yogurt, juice and a few other things. The medium blend coffee was also good. The staff will do whatever it takes within their ability to make your breakfast enjoyable. I MUST have something sweet like a cinnamon roll in the morning ;) and most mornings we came down, they were all out. However, when I asked if they could find more, they always came through! Pay attention to breakfast times because they change depending on what day it is. If the breakfast area is full, there are more places to sit in the lobby area- we found it was more quiet and enjoyable on that side. Okay- CONS: 1) ROOMS. We were on the second floor and for the life of me, I could not get the darn THERMOSTAT to stay at a comfortable sleeping temperature! They have the type of system that if you set it to 72, for example, it will automatically either cool or heat to try and keep it at 72. This was not good because we wanted it to just air condition at 68– that’s it, but it couldn’t do that. When the room felt chilly, it would read 76. After an hour of the air blowing, it would eventually switch to heat to regulate it again. It was bad. It was wrong. I had to get up in the middle of the night to adjust it. We told the front desk, but I think it’s just a bad system. There was another guy complaining, so it wasn’t just our room. The SHOWER seemed to have a limit on hot water and temperature. We also let the front desk know. They said they fixed it, But all I know that when it was my turn to take a shower, like at home, I had a warm, not nice and hot shower. It did the same thing in the second bathroom. That’s a bummer for me considering I never have time at home for long relaxing showers. 2) at BREAKFAST, they must provide more pastries!! If they run out each morning, then they should know to provide more. Oh- and just a tip for using METRO if it’s new for you. it’s great, but the doors will not wait for anyone to take their time getting off and on. You’re not going to get killed, but you and your kids need to be ready. Have a plan ahead of time in case you get separated— it happens. When we were exiting at one of the stations, the doors closed before our 14 yr old daughter could get off and it was the one stinkin time she didn’t have her phone! I am gladly admitting that I panicked! But this city does have a lot of good people in it. A man noticed what happened and allowed her to use his phone so she could call and it worked out fine. From then on, we had a plan that if anyone got trapped in, to just get off at the next stop and wait no matter what. That way, we could just hop on the next one and meet within minutes— it’s an easy fix :). I hope this helped- I think details are important
