We stayed here after running out of vacancy at Where2Next hostel across the street and wanting to stay another night. It was a step up in price, but unfortunately a step down in quality and service. The building is nice, with great tiling and old world style, but the rooms are tired, with old mattresses and AC units that don't...

Hello! Thank you for your comments. I will investigate. There are two security guards on our front gate at night and a night front desk staff in the lobby. I've never heard a negative comment about our security guards who have been with us for more than a decade. As far as the night staff on desk duty, I will...

We came here intending to stay for 8 nights originally; however, after spending about 10 minutes in the room, we went downstairs and changed our reservation to one night. The room was really dark (no windows) and smelled HEAVILY of mildew - it was nauseating. The beds were ok, but the room and the bathroom were tiny and didn't seem...

Hello! Thank you for your review. I view all of our guest comments as a report card as to how well we are doing in keeping our place as inviting to our staying guest. I spoke to our resident manager and our front desk staff. I was informed that your only comment in cutting your stay short was that you...

I have booked the economy fan room and immediately regretted it. The room was so stuffy and hot. Didn't expect that from a room with fan. I'm glad the friendly staff managed to get me an air conditioned room the other day. You might want to get a room upstairs (through the stairs at the reception instead of the lobby)...

We were driven to Malate Pensionne from the airport by a driver-advisor. It was an evening and we were tired after flight so we just took the opportunity. Pensionne looked like heaven in this shabby neighbourhood of Malate. Well, it wasn't. Unfrinedly staff to begin, coucroaches in the toilet, unchanged bed sheets in the middle and a tiny "free" breakfast...

If Malate Pensionne is what you say it is, why is it that we are close to 100% occupancy with many returning guest who make Malate Pensionne their home away from home? Our staff sincerely goes out of their way to make travelers feel at home. That said, in this world, there are folks, for whatever reason, make others react...

Hotel is clean, with inside mostly made of original & colonial touch pitch-brown hardwood lumber furnishings, reasonably priced, fairly couteous staff. I got over with jetlag & felt rested after two days because i just stayed in the comfort of my room most of the time & also n the ante room to get good internet connections. But outside, the...

Andy and Dolors from Canada There is no better experience than arrive in a hotel at five o'clock in the morning and be greeted by smiling people when you expect the people to be half a sleep. The staff in Malate Pensionne did everything with a smile, no matter how incovenient it may have been for them. This pension is...

Originally booked three nights here. Arrived late and night staff gave us a cool reception. Showed us to our room which was clean and tidy. Tried to sleep but noise level kept me awake all night. Seemed there are a number of night clubs in the area that cater to the younger crowd that parties all night and sleeps all...

If you want an unpleasant experience then stay here! This is worse than "Fawlty Towers" You are greeted by two very cold, unpleasant woman first up who have no idea about how to smile and look at every foreigner as inherently evil ............... they may have that right :) You are then taken through a clean wooden corridor which is...

Malate Pensionne's primary concern is the safety of our guests since we market our property to families with children. Allowing some guests to bring in someone to walk our hallways defeats that purpose. There are many lodging places that don't care who their paying guests brings into his room, Malate Pensionne has a long standing reputation of not being one...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Malate Pensionne is located in the heart of Malate, a district of Manila on Adriatico St. (formerly Dakota St under the US Commonwealth & Calle Nuevo under Spain). Our building was built by Americans who leased the land from our grandfather to house American workers. When the lease ended, our mother turned it into Dakota Apts. Returning from her European trips & learning of how Italians welcomed weary travelers to their home like family members, she turned Dakota Apts into Malate Valero Pensionne, now well know as the Malate Pensionne with the slogan, "Your home away from Home". As far as we know, we are the only hotel in the world with a strict policy of only registered guests can walk our hallways. We are about a mile from the US Embassy & Rizal Park. About 2 miles from Intramuros, the old walled city of Manila, a 5 min. walk to Robinson Mall. 15 min. by car to Mall Of Asia & 11.5km to the upscale Makati City & Bonifacio Global City. Mabuhay, Bienvenido, Welcome to your "home away from home". ... more   less
