We had a number of issues during our stay at Malate Pensionne, starting with actually getting there. While their website states that they offer airport transfers, this is only very loosely the truth. I emailed twice, once from the booking site I'd booked through, and once through their own website and received no answer. In the end we ended up...

Hello! Thank you for giving us a report on your experience. I will personally look into as to why you didn't get a reply when you attempted to book our airport shuttle. In response to your comment about the taxi costing less than a private car, anywhere in the world, a taxi will cost less than a private car. There...

The location was very convenient - surrounded by a variety of decent restaurants and some (questionable) bars. You could also walk to the intramural area and it was easy & cheap when cabbing around town. Our standard room was very small and had an oscillating fan attached to the ceiling, but you couldn't keep it pointed at you - making...

I like houses with character and I read that this hotel used to be ancestral home and indeed the layout shows it. High ceiling, wooden floors, stairs and the rich mahogany colours. Basic but clean accommodation at reasonable rate all I need to rest to continue my journey the following day. Located at the heart of tourist area, I feel...

An excellent budget place in Manila. We got our own double with ensuite bathroom. It was decent, simple, but a few small cockroaches. Other than that, the staff were super friendly (they even lent me money when I didn't have any small peso bills for the cab). There are a couple cheap bars close by as well and a free...

Located in Malate area near the Malate Circle. Malate Pensionne has very basic facilities in the rooms. Some rooms has still an old box TV with cable box while other rooms has LCD TVs. Negative: - WIFI is only available on the ground floor. - Pillows are way too soft. - No douche spray in the bathrooom

So I have been staying with Malate Pensionne for the past years, since my college days in Iloilo actually and been staying here with friends and family so this is like a great capsule of memories for me. Last time I checked in however, I realized that this was not the same hotel I have used to love. The standards...

My children and I stayed in their large bedroom for 2 weeks. We found the staff very accommodating and helpful. The place was very clean and up to date with enough hot water for showers. With the gate and security guard I was comfortable letting my children run around. The wifi was a nice bonus. The room we stayed in...

Stayed for a night with my fiance. The premium room was okay for the price. It was a good stay until we realized that the receptionist forgot to give my fiance's card back upon check in. We did not notice that the card was gone until 2 days later. So we called the bank and asked when the last transaction...

It is a good place for a short stay in Manila. It is near good restaurants, Robinson's place and it was easy to walk to Rizal Park and intramuros. The double room was quite basic. We shared the bathroom which was clean but had very (very!) small toilet cubicules and showers. The staff was nice and it is in the...

This is best valued accommodations anyone can have (the feel of an "old" Filipino "converted rooming mansion", all that "antique" wood smell) very clean, comfortable & safe (just kinda put up with the low "water pressure".Professional & accommodating "English speaking" staff and if you are ready to tackle the "unique" surroundings that "evolves" around this "pensionne", then this your "home"...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Malate Pensionne is located in the heart of Malate, a district of Manila on Adriatico St. (formerly Dakota St under the US Commonwealth & Calle Nuevo under Spain). Our building was built by Americans who leased the land from our grandfather to house American workers. When the lease ended, our mother turned it into Dakota Apts. Returning from her European trips & learning of how Italians welcomed weary travelers to their home like family members, she turned Dakota Apts into Malate Valero Pensionne, now well know as the Malate Pensionne with the slogan, "Your home away from Home". As far as we know, we are the only hotel in the world with a strict policy of only registered guests can walk our hallways. We are about a mile from the US Embassy & Rizal Park. About 2 miles from Intramuros, the old walled city of Manila, a 5 min. walk to Robinson Mall. 15 min. by car to Mall Of Asia & 11.5km to the upscale Makati City & Bonifacio Global City. Mabuhay, Bienvenido, Welcome to your "home away from home". ... more   less
