The Manila Grand Opera Hotel stands today on the former site of the Manila Grand Opera House, a cultural landmark that showcased Philippine arts from 1900 to the late 1950. Formally launched in August 2008, it combines the historic theater's cultural legacy with a boost to the travel and tourism industry as the only luxury hotel in Manila's Sta. Cruz district, near Binondo's Chinatown. Located on the corner of Rizal Avenue and Doroteo Jose Street, the Manila Grand Opera Hotel today caters to an increasing number of visitors from China and Taiwan, aside from habitues and residents of the area who have long hoped for such a center of elegance and beauty to emerge in their midst. At the hotel's entrance stands a historical marker about the inauguration of the first Philippine Assembly on Oct. 16, 1907 by United States Secretary of War William Howard Taft, a historic event that was held there. As the only elegant hotel in downtown Manila, Manila Grand Opera Hotel expects to cater to the increasing number of Chinese visitors from the mainland and Taiwan who will feel at home staying near Manila's Chinatown. The hotel also serves the needs of the Chinese community residing in the nearby Chinatown by providing accommodations for their relatives and friends coming from abroad, he added. The luxury hotel has 250 contemporary guest rooms equipped with state-of-the-art door lock system, cable TV and Wi-Fi and LAN access, a mini-bar with a wide variety of snacks and drinks, with amenities such as buffet breakfast, use of the Infinity swimming pool, and spa. For the dining enjoyment of guests, there are the New President Sharksfin Seafood Restaurant serving authentic Chinese cuisine and the Circa 1900 Bar and Restaurant offering an array of gastronomic delights in an old world ambiance created by the blown up photographs on the walls of artists who had performed at the old theater. For big social gatherings, the hotel's Ambassador's Hall can accommodate up to 1,000 guests while several Meeting Rooms are also available for smaller gatherings such as business meetings, social get-together, dining, meeting and banquets.

This is an old hotel where you will appreciate the amenities more than the room itself. To my surprise, for a cheap price rate, i was able to book their standard room with free dinner and breakfast buffet. I thought it was a good deal considering the amount that i paid for everything. However, the disappointment came when I saw their room that looks more like a cheap motel room or an old apartment that you can avail for a short or monthly stay.

This hotel needs a lot of renovation and improvement when you talk about the quality of their rooms. This hotel is not recommended if you’re looking for a cozy and relaxing staycation in the heart of Manila.

Let’s start with the positives. This hotel is strategically located nearby several public transport links, fast-food restaurants, and convenience stores. It is not overly expensive and the staff are friendly.

However, as you would expect from a three-star hotel, the standard rooms are underwhelming and incredibly basic. The bedsheets are stained and heavily used, the air conditioning is loud and outdated, and the pathetically slow internet is intermittent at best.

The hotel is in a highly impoverished area so you can’t walk more than a few steps without seeing homeless people lying semiconscious in the street or begging for spare change. The food is mediocre and offers little variety so you’re better off heading to the nearby fast-food joints or minimarts for meals and snacks.

If you’re on a budget and simply looking for a place to sleep while exploring Manilla, this is the hotel for you

Our kids miss this place so much. Always a recommended hotel for family getaway with the easy access pool and morning breakfast buffet that is always part of the rooms you booked. Hope this pandemic ends ASAP so we can go back.

Beautiful hotel and very relaxing and peaceful for my first time visiting the Philippines and also for the special occasion I have come to meet my partner of 2 years to spend some time in the city.

The staff have been amazing and friendly and always happy and will always talk to you when down stairs.

Breakfast is beautiful every morning and relaxing listening to all the people around as it’s just so relaxing at the hotel and would come again.

The first room was outdated and dark, window blind doesn’t work, after two nights I had enough and luckily run into the assistant manager, I voiced out my complaints and within hours we were back to the present .
Larger room, flat screen TV, brighter room, quieter ac .Amed M. Tugas asst. manager made sure we’re happy and looked after for the rest of our stays.

The Suite that we stayed in is Nicely done decor from ceiling/wall, furniture, whirlpool bath, everything is upscale. Love the comfy bed very high end. Service is always exempt high. Every employee exceeded their services to their guest. That’s why we keep coming back here. Thanks to the management of this lovely hotel. See you in October.

Hotel located in a truly inhospitable, even dangerous area. Even though it has been remodeled both in common areas and in room, it does not offer the category that you want, in my review. Rooms with TV, refrigerator, kettle and A.A., but unenjoyable and uncomfortable. Awful bathroom. Poor and unappetizing breakfast. It has a bar and restaurant. Casino on the first floor. Swimming pool with no sun loungers and chairs that should have been cleaned or renovated...
Debatable cleanliness.
Friendly staff in general.
I wouldn't come back, if it's any use.

great hotel for the following reason: Big and quite room, comfortable bed, good hotel facilities (swimming pool, ballroom, gym) and restaurant. Building also connected to LRT/MRT station. makes going to my meeting easier, also close the Binondo Area / Lucky China Town Mall.

We stayed in this hotel last April 29-30, 2013. It was a good experience, there was just some minor slips.

We arrived early, we thought we could check-in early as well, but the receptionist told us that check-in time is 2:00pm so she ask us to just wait until, so we wait.

There's a restaurant inside the hotel, we stayed there to kill time. We ordered some desserts and drinks to freshen us up. The ambience is so nice, almost everything looks clean. So I was surprised when I saw an insect in my dessert, its like all my good impressions went away. The waiter politely changed my dessert, so yeah everything went back to being "fine". But it really was shocking.

Came 2:00pm, we asked for an empress room and it was gorgeous. The room is clean, everything's arranged so well. The ambience is cozy and relaxing, and the sheets are soft completely not itchy. The restroom is clean, no bad odors and stuff. It was comfy, so yeah, good impressions again. But when we used the bath tub, the water from the faucet was dirty. Not really as dirty, its just kind of blurry not really brownish. So we checked if the shower and the vanity sink has the same kind of water. Well thank God, its all clean. Only the tub has dirty water. So we just sticked to using the shower.

The location of the hotel is good, its near to almost everything. The pool area was also clean and not so crowded, the water is so clear. The breakfast was good, maybe average.

Overall, maybe I'll go back to this hotel soon. :)
