Getting there
Good for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
I would like to start by mentioning that this hotel is located in a beautifully restored historic building in the heart of Manila's famous Ermita district. Both the interior and exterior are visually impressive and you really feel like you are stepping into the past as you enter the hotel; from the lighting, to the tiling, and even the staff uniforms.
Positives: The staff in the hotel are very friendly and helpful from the moment you enter, you will be captivated by the opulent decorations and beautifully clean and spacious foyers and hallways. The hotel itself is a 3 minute walk from the famous Rizal Park (Luneta Park) and you can really get to anywhere you want to go in Manila quite easily from the hotel.
Negatives: The first and biggest issue we experienced was in this hotel was the level of noise in the evening. We were kept awake by the very loud guitar and drums from the karaoke venue across the street which quite literally shook the window panes. I understand that this is not really the hotel's fault and that karaoke is a common Filipino pastime however when we called to enquire about the noise we were told that the music should stop around 2am, whereas we would have appreciated an offer to move to a quieter part of this large hotel, given the price per night and our feeling unwell at the time.
It is also worth mentioning the breakfast at the hotel, whilst it does feature delicious traditional Filipino cuisine, there were some notable things missing. The selection of fresh fruit was limited to 3 and there was notably no salad options available.
Also note that the bar in the hotel was closed by 10pm, if you would like a cocktail on a Saturday night at this time (perhaps because the loud music has kept you awake), then the nearest option may be the Manila Hotel which is a 5 minute walk from the Rizal Park Hotel.
Overall I would describe the Rizal Park Hotel as opulent, but not necessarily luxurious. It could benefit from some sound-proofing and perhaps a little bit more signage inside (can be difficult to find facilities such as the pool). It is definitely worth a visit to this historical place, however it is somewhat resigned in the shadow of the nearby Manila Hotel which is perhaps somewhat better value for money.

Dear Eamon92, Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback following your recent stay. We were pleased to hear that most aspects of your stay met your expectations and I will be sharing the same with the team though we very much regret your concerns and the frustration experienced. And in regard to that, we have made some steps and actions so the same would not occur again. Many thanks and we look forward in welcoming you back in the near future. Sincerely, Mia Sarabia Front Office Manager

The ambience is amazing considering the structure is a century old. The furnitures inside the room especially the bedside tables however do not give justice to the overall architectural design. They are made of cheap wood and does not have functional drawers. The fire extinguisher is on the floor without a stand or wall fixture and can be manipulated by children easily. Again, it destroys the nostalgic feel of the place. The safe does not work at all and is just for display.
The buffet breakfast is good but not compatible for a 4 star status. Coffee was not even ready on my first day. The waiters in the restaurant were particularly attentive to just getting used plates and are not anticipatory when it comes to customer needs.
The room was not ready until 2:30 pm. I was expecting an early check in if possible because I arrived at 9 am.
Upon checking out, the security personnel did not offer to help with luggages. Nobody else was present to help out. I also noted that upon checking in on the first day, nobody also offered to help carry my luggage. Worse, there was no ramp hence once has to carry your luggages up the stairs.

The staff at check in fave us the bad news that to swim in the small pool overlooking Manila Bay would require a room upgrade costing P2000 a night. I saw no evidence of gym staff enforcing this draconian rule.
Our third floor room was spacious and most comfortable with good quality linen.
The bathroom was large with the efficient rainhead shower a delight.
Aircon was silent and WiFi worked well.
The breakfast was substandard. No yoghurt, poor quality fruit but a good omelette slightly redeemed it.
The public areas were massive and attractive.
Lighting in the room was very good.
Robinsons Mall Ermita is less than 1.5 kilometres away.

The hotel appearance, staff and opulant foyer entrance are the only positives.
The hallways, ceilings, carpet and walls are old and worn. The pool is in terrible condition with countless tiles broken. The glass barrier that is supposed to give that ‘infinity pool’ feeling was filthy. While my room was neat and tidy, it certainly did not look like the boutique photos online. You’d have to get a room overlooking the bay to have a worthwhile experience watching the sunset. But most rooms face the courtyard or road.
Room service and all other services are cash only. At poolside, you had to call housekeeping or the restaurant to send you a menu. There is no inkling of room service in the room….no menu or promotional material. There was no-one at the pool at 11am when I went. After waiting 30 minutes, I gave up. The breakfast was buffet only, but at P900- expensive for the poor selection available.
Add all this to its location which is isolated from most other places for eating or shopping, this hotel does not provide a lot for its rating. To go anywhere by foot, you have to cross the very busy Roxas Blvd which is 250 metres away.
Luckily I was able to book 5 nights with a promo for 50% off, but if I had to pay full price, I would have changed hotels after the 2nd night.

Shared this experience with my girlfriend, the hotel was pretty empty, which honestly made the experience more enjoyable. Hotel is within walking distance from a lot of historical tourist attractions.
All of facilities were open, and we tried each of them. The pool was clean and very enjoyable during the hot days. There were lockers, showers and toilets close by the pool.
The spar only offers massages at 2k pesos for one, the girlfriend came out feeling like a new woman.
The breakfast is all you can eat, but it essentially just meals you would have for dinner. Still good for an all you can eat. The ice tea is 100% worth it though.
We also went at 6pm, but it was essentially the same, but with more options.
The in room dining was delicious, although most of the menu was not available. Can recommend the pasta dishes, they were very nice.
The bar was practically empty, with very few selections of cocktails, the view would be great if there wasn’t a wall blocking it off.
The staff were amazing and went out of their way to make the trip much better.

The hotel is a historic hotel with a storied past. It is in a good location near Rizal Park. The staff are friendly and helpful. It has been renovated and updated several times. Still, there are small things that could be improved such as replacing missing tiles in the pool and touch up painting and repairs on corridor corners. I was disappointed that face/wash cloths are not available in the bathrooms. But the hotel is a good value for the money and the food makes it an exceptional place to stay.

It’s Chinese New Year holiday and we chose to stay in this beautiful hotel. Our trip was about Binondo Food Wok (Food Trip). This is the closest hotel near Binondo and so far the nicest hotel in the area. The price range is typically around 6-7k . The hotel is clean and the ambiance is so uplifting. I feel happy while entering this hotel because of the color and the beauty of the chandeliers. The room is spacious and clean. I just noticed some mold building up in the shower. Just need some scrubbing and some chemicals to rid of it. Overall the stay is pleasant and comfy. The stafd are attentive and respond right away to the calls. The buffet selection is also practical. I recommend getting the room 331-332-333 because it is facing Manila Bay. It is nice to watch the sunset from the window.

If you're looking for a memorable family staycation for all the wrong reasons, this place is it. The buffet breakfast was terrible, the internet connection was painfully slow (1 mbps), and the swimming pool was filthy. The pool desperately needs renovation as the loose tiles are everywhere on the pool floor.
Nearly everything comes with extra charges, including drinking water. The bathroom was far from clean. The only saving grace was the comfortable bed and pillows.
The vibe of this hotel is just sad. My kids said this is the worst hotel we've ever stayed at for a staycation.
If you've stayed at many hotels before, you'll experience a bit of culture shock at this one.

Pros: the hotel truly is beautiful and instagrammable. The room is as nice as it looks in the photos. The location is very convenient if you want to tour Manila whether it is Luneta Park, Intramuros, Manila Ocean Park, etc. Every tourist attraction is within 1km of the hotel.
Cons: the common spaces are not as pretty though. There are watermarks on the ceiling of the reception area and the wallpaper is peeling off in in the hallway. The courtyard is not accessible. We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights, but the pool was under maintenance the entire time. Pity because that was the main reason we stayed here. We wanted the experience of swimming while having a view of the Manila Bay. The staff while nice do not seem to be empowered and just followed procedures. I have never been in a hotel where you cannot charge your incidental expenses to your room and pay upon checkout for example. That however, is ‘procedure.’
When faced with non-procedural things, they are usually courteous and friendly though. They even gladly took photos for our keepsake.
If they can fix the maintenance issues and perhaps provide more empowerment and training to the staff, I think they can be a very good hotel. They have a lot of good things going for them.

We now think that the Rizal Park Hotel is the best hotel in the Philippines. We've been in a variety of hotels from Luzon to Mindanao, but the Rizal Park Hotel surpassed our expectations and offered first-rate facilities and services! You might initially assume that the rates are higher than at other 5-star hotels, but you won't regret it! There is value in every cent! Since they were fully booked when we made our original request, they simply upgraded our accommodation without considering how much we would love it. The view is fantastic! You won't need to worry because they also have practically all of the requirements for your stay. Because there are restaurants, a pool, a gym, and a kids' area, you won't get bored! But their staff is their greatest advantage! Everyone is incredibly friendly, courteous, helpful, and proactive, including the restaurant servers, housekeepers, and receptionists. Everyone is treated like a VIP there! Definitely return again!
