The hostel is excellently located. It is just 2 to 3 min walk from Kyoto station Hachijo east exit. Exceptionally clean. Many toilets and showers and you would never have to wait. Quite a good breakfast. staff friendly. Please note however they don't at all relax the check in time. It's 3 pm for sure and doesn't matter whether rooms are available or not. They won't let you in unless their staff finish cleaning all the rooms. We stayed in a doubles' room, it was a bit expensive compared to the average range in Kyoto, however it was worth it mainly for their excellent location as pretty much Kyoto station is the go to station for almost every bus or train journey. This was my second visit to Japan and to Kyoto, and I had stayed here the previous time too and would not hesitate to go back if I visit again.

Piece Kyoto Hostel was everything you could hope for. The place was very clean including beds, shower areas, kitchen, and bathrooms. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bikes they rent to guests were great for exploring Kyoto. The rooms stayed very quiet at night and I slept well here. Breakfast was offered in the morning included in price of stay. I also used the laundry which was easy and efficient with the detergent dispensing automatically. No need to bring your own. Coin operated. Proximity to Kyoto Station for bullet trains and local trains was very good. All around this is an excellent option for lodging.

We stayed here for 5 nights and it’s a great location to be based in for exploring Kyoto and around. It’s only a few minutes walk to the main station and there are also lots of food options around there. We enjoyed the conveyer belt sushi recommendation in particular! We stayed in a double room which was small but had plenty room under the bed for our bags. It was comfy, quiet and cosy feeling. The shared toilets and shower rooms are very clean. Only downside we found was having to go down a couple of floors to shower - would be good to have a robe provided for this. The laundry facilities worked well. The included breakfast was good but sometimes had queues first thing (but this could be a one off as there was a small school trip staying at the time). Overall, a very good option for Kyoto and we’d recommend!

Fabulous location, close to the main station. Easy to find, and lots inclusions in a bargain price. Lovely outdoor terraces on the ground floor (smokers) and 3rd floor. Washing machines and dryers on site, with the bonus that you don't need to provide your own detergent, at a VERY reasonable price. Immaculately clean, friendly staff who aren't afraid to speak English, and the rooms are very well-appointed. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm, which was comfortable, spacious and there is even an option to choose your own pillow, so that you can be extra comfy.

My second time in this hostel and it keeps exceeding my expectations. Staff is really friendly and helpful and speak perfect English. Special thanks to Rainy and Midori. The place is very clean, including bathrooms – a place often neglected in many hostels. In my first time in this hostel, I booked a private room. Now it was time to try the shared room for six people. The experience was positive. I was there during New Year and they prepared a special soup served during that occasion and sake. Both free to guests. The idea was very thoughtful. I wanted to try the other Piece Hostel, but the location of this one is so perfect that I couldn’t say no to (it is right next to the train station). You get in Kyoto, walk a bit and arrive at the hostel.

I got a good deal on a cabin bed, breakfast included.

The breakfast is very nice. Lots of choice from pancakes to miso soup and rice with tsukemono (pickled vegies).

The guests were varied (even older Chinese ladies in their late 50 or early 60). But not cheap backpacker folks (you know what I mean).

It's a good place if you need to get an early train, you don't have to rush too much.

The room and box was clean, the storage boxes are good enough for a regular backpack.

The showers were clean and roomy. The toilets, well, that depends on the other guests, but it was good most of the time...

It's not in a fancy neighborhood, so no view to talk about.

I got there after dark and it was a bit tricky to find because there was a building construction site on the main road, so I had to I find a side street.

All in all, if you get a good deal, it's nice.

I love this place. this hotel is so close to the station. just make sure you exit from "hachijo west exit" gate, because if you choose the wrong exit, you will end up going to far. the lounge or public kitchen is clean and comfortable. staff also speaks good english. my only complaint is just because shower room is only available at the first floor so everyone who wants to take a shower need to go to the first floor. oh, and there is pippa bike sharing station just in front of this hostel.

First when I booked this hostel, I didn't expect anything because of it is a hostel and I never look up at the review of this one, But i was surprise about it. Start from The front desk they all speak English very well and very helpful, room size is so small but it was ok for me, at least I could put my two luggages. Inside the room has a sink. Toilets are outside and it is always clean. About the location, We walked to Kyoto Station only 5 minutes. That's why I loved this place so much. It is worth your money in overall.
The furthermore, In the morning they provide simply breakfast but good enough to fulfill your morning.
So, I highly recommended this hostel for all budget travelers.

We stayed at the Piece Hostel for 5 nights in a Double Room. The hostel is very new and has opportunities for improvement, but was our favorite hostel we stayed at in Japan.

Pros:
- Location: 5 minute walk from the train station, ideal location for transportation and food options.
- Design: the common space and rooms are very modern. Large kitchen has everything needed. Nice patio on the first floor, terrace on the third floor.
- Room: small, with a sink (nice to have with only common bathrooms) and an incredibly comfortable bed.
- Bathrooms: very private toilets on each floor, really nice showers on the first floor.
- Cleanliness: rooms and common areas were very clean.
- Bar: good drinks and coffee.

Cons:
- Free Wifi: didn't work in the room well.
- Area Information: nothing provided. The other hostels we stayed at in Japan have area
directions/ top sights posted, making it easier for guests and staff.
- Room Storage: no where to really put stuff. If there were a shelf or two it would help to optimize the small space for bags and personal items.

Recommendations:
- Get to breakfast early, it goes quickly.

there are powerplugs in everyroom, however those are based on Jap plug standard, if you bringing electronics from other country i believe a converter is needed.

You should only worry about tattoos in Japan when thinking about public baths (most sento/onsen). Piece has individual showers, so no worries!

Answer from Marcos S

as far as I know, there are no such kind of restrictions in hostels. The only place I know that tattoos are forbidden, are public baths called 'onsen' there in Japan

It's been a couple of years since I stayed there, but when I did it was cheaper than a hotel and about midrange price wise for hostels. It was much nicer than other hostels I've stayed at and is on par with a hotel if you get a private room. You just share showers and bathrooms with others. Check their website under reservations to see price for when you will be there since prices change.
