Stayed at the Eminence for a couple of days whilst on a business trip. It was convenient for work, less so for the city centre.

Room was a bit dated but comfortable and very spacious (for Japan).

The buffet breakfast was very good.

The hotel is a little outside Kyoto proper, requiring a 12 minute bus ride to the nearest subway stop (Katsura Station). The rooms, small with cheap finishes. However it is clean, well maintained and the staff very helpful and friendly. There are conference rooms, an integrative medicine clinic on the top floor, the bus stop right out front. There is also a shopping center behind the building and they have an onsen on site.

Once you get used to the bus schedule - they come fairly frequently - it's actually quite easy to get into Kyoto. I would recommend this for the budget conscious traveler.

On the way there, I took the shuttle from Hankyu Rakusaiguchi Station.
I thought I would be checking in at the hotel front desk, but it turned out to be the hot spring.
Although entry to the hotel begins at 3pm, I was able to use the hot spring immediately. First I went into the hot spring and had a light lunch. I went to my room at 3pm, rested, and then went back into the hot spring. It was a nice twin room.
I left the room at 7pm and had a Manyo gozen meal. A beer is great for a dry throat.
The shuttle bus had finished, so I took a city bus from Sakaiya Ohashi Bridge to Katsura Station.
I used the "Kyoto Charm Rediscovery Travel Project" for this plan.

My Japanese farther in law booked is in this hotel for our trip to Kyoto. The hotel has an onsen(Japanese hot spring/public bath). I have tattoos and my wife checked the hotels website for information about tattoos in the onsen. There was none. On my third visit to the onsen I was approved and told that tattoos were not allowed in a Japanese bath. I had just finished with my bath and was drying off. I was still naked as I was still in the locker room and the person who approved me was a little Japanese lady. This may be normal in Japan but as an American a woman in the locker room is a bit uncomfortable. She came back to inform me that I would not be allowed to return tomorrow. Our meals were delicious but the service was very inconsistent and the amount of food is a bit much. Both nights the meal was around 10 courses and the timing brought us food from back to back, to over half an hour between items. As Japan is a no tip culture there is no incentive for improving the service. This review is written as a heads up to foreigners, especially the hour spring portion of the experience.

I think the service is the best thing about this wonderful hot spring hotel.
The food is also delicious, and there is a wide selection to choose from.
When you become a Kaiin member, you get a lot of perks.

Kyoto Takeno Sato Onsen Manyo no Yu Hotel Kyoto Eminence is a high-grade super public bath with a weak alkaline natural hot spring. There is also a restaurant and manga, so I was able to relax.
