I chose this hotel for my quarantine requirement upon arrival to the city and I am so glad I did. For only P1500 a night you get a clean, charming and well-appointed room. (room has a mini fridge, hair dryer, safety deposit box, and a 5 gallon container of drinking water)

Coordinating was easy because the helpful hotel staff made sure to communicate with me regarding their protocols. I was asked to use the service entrance and head straight to my room where my key card was waiting on a chair by the door. The meals (which were only a minimal extra charge) were also left on this chair so I had little to no contact with any staff. (Side note: The meals were also good! I was also allowed to order anything via delivery app like Grab or Food Panda as long as payments were settled via the app.)

The hotel staff also helped me take care of my clearance certificate and coordinated with the city's quarantine facility.

I did not expect my quarantine stay to be so comfortable and delightful. :) Kudos to the management and staff of Smallville 21 Hotel.

One of my favorite hotels every time i get to iloilo. Now they are expanding and adding more rooms to accommodate more guests. Love the courteous receptionist. They even accommodated my reservation even by telephone call. Would be hoping that in the near future this hotel will serve breakfast buffet style.

Not in the National Highway but the distance is not that bad if planning to walk from Diversion Road; Besides Taxi is always available in the area. Nothing special with the room but nothing much to complain. Near from Coffee Shops and Party Places (Bars and Restaurants).

One of good business hotel in the city. Although out of the business district, it offers better location and surroundings. You find lots of choice restaurants / bars just a walk around the place. The food in the hotel are excellent and value-for-money. Rooms are spacious and clean.

I don’t really write reviews but the poor service and inhospitable staffs (specially the front desk) urged me to write something because I think the hotel is overrated. The only advantage of Smallville 21 is their new building but the services and hospitality rates poorly. I’m an auditor and I basically live in hotels/hostel/pension house/b&b, and this is the first time that sucky hotel service got into my nerve.

Review:

Room type: Deluxe Matrimonial
Room amenities: Hot and cold shower, lcd tvd, wifi access, basic toiletries, electric kettle (no free coffee or tea) and 2 bottled water(free). The room has no refrigerator and they charge P25 for ice.
Hotel Amenities: Wifi only. (no pool or gym)
Location: near SM city and plenty of restaurants in the area
Duration of stay: 18 days

The rooms and lobby are clean. There are plenty of breakfast choices but the restaurant is quite crowded. Mobility is not a problem since cabs are readily available in front of the hotel. However, I think the rooms are overpriced since they only offer basic amenities versus other hotels. Long stay in the hotel is discouraged because of the unfriendly front desk personnel.

Rants:
1. My card key always gets deactivated. One time, when I requested for its reactivation, the front desk personnel asked me (in an accusing tone) if I placed the key near my cellphone which might caused its deactivation. I just answered “No. Unless you placed it near your cellphone because I just receive the key from you a minute ago.” I was really tired that day and was carrying 3 bags. Going up and down the elevator just to have my key reactivated was very inconvenient which was worsened by the response of the front desk personnel.

2. Whenever we have inquiries with the front desk personnel, they always cut our sentences with incorrect answers. This was really annoying because if they just let us finish, they could have addressed our questions correctly.

3. Since someone else already booked the room we were currently occupying ahead of us for one weekend, they made us transfer to a lower rate room on Saturday then made us transfer back to our original rooms on Monday. When we asked them if we could just stay in the lower rate room until we check out which is already on Wednesday, (without even looking at their system) she informed us that that is not possible since they’re “fully booked”. Instead of resting on the weekend, we wasted our time packing-unpacking then packing again because of their unwillingness to try or “act to try” to accommodate our request.

Please help me here Furiouslyfedup, 8 of you went back to the room early AM you had paid for 3, 2 left some time later, that leaves 6 that makes it later AM they left.
It was nice to hear after a shindig as you put it all 8 of you were quiet as church mice.
Good to hear but unbelievable.
I wonder what was going on before the 2 left.
It was good you did not wake up paying guests at that time in the morning also unbelievable.
If you did not get caught in the morning, you expect us to believe you would have paid for the extra people.
Furiouslyfedup you are a joke, you put a bad review on this excellent website, well it was not a review rather just a complaint about your bad behaviour not being accepted.
In the city I live in you would have all been thrown out what ever time of night it was, with all the other guests applauding.
You have no profile and no other reviews, that says it all.
To other tripadvisor readers if I have to put scores to get this message posted I will have to, I have not yet stayed in this hotel. I am in Iloilo City May, so Furiouslyfedup keep away.

Let me share with you the really bad experience we had in Iloilo’s Smallville 21 Hotel some time in March of this year. My cousins and I checked in at around 2pm in a DeLuxe room with one matrimonial and one single bed. After our little shindig later that night, (or should I say, early the next day) we decided to go back to our room with some of our friends. We were stopped by the guard before the elevator door could close and he interrogated us where we were going and why there were too many of us (there were eight of us). We all went straight to our room and two of our friends left not long after.

A few moments later, we heard knocks on our door but decided not to answer it since we were already about to take our anticipated convenient rest in one of the “fine” hotels in the city. The phone kept ringing as well, and so we reckoned the guard probably had the front office informed about the questioning session we had downstairs. A few more knocks and phone calls followed and my cousin finally decided to open the door for us to find out what they wanted from us at four o’clock in the morning. Just when she was about to turn the knob, one really rude staff of the hotel (or the Night Supervisor, as he later mentioned) barged in the room and asked us one of the most impolite, most inappropriate questions from a hotel SUPERVISOR, “What’s going on here?” That’s the first line that came out of his awful mouth. He didn’t even say “Excuse me,” or “Good (really, really early) morning”. My cousin was furious that she argued with that rude man who then introduced himself as the Night Supervisor (Mike Gacuma was his name according to the FO staff). God, we were so frustrated to have been treated like noisy school girls in a classroom . He said their point of checking out the room is because some guests complained that we were so noisy when we cannot even remember creating too loud a noise to disturb the other guests. If we were not mistaken, his main concern was the number of people that are in the room. (For gods sake, we can pay!)

Now, here’s OUR point. What if the reason why we weren’t able to answer right away is because we were already fast asleep since it was FOUR IN THE MORNING, or that we were all changing clothes? What if we were all naked inside the room, expecting the “privacy” we were supposed to have in that dreadful hotel? My cousin kept on asking him why he had to just swing the door open and ask us like that. He even answered us, “What if you were doing something here?” WOW! What could that something be? How “kind” of him to accuse his guests of doing “something”. He did a headcount and said that the room is only good for three. We said, “Yes, we are aware and we are going to pay for the extra persons that are staying in the room.” The argument didn’t stop there, so I cut him off and said, “We rented a room we could have all to ourselves. You are invading our privacy. You could’ve just waited for the check out time and just charged us with the additional fees which we surely are going to pay for. Now, get out of this room. Please!”

He scooted out and during the check out time, we were charged an extra fee of 1500php for the 6 EXTRA persons that were in the room. Now, that’s weird because we can only remember 3 extra people in there. We had to clarify how much it costs for each extra person and they said 250. Well, okay, we were not paying for 1500 then. Hell, no, we were not paying for persons we didn’t have in the room!
We spoke with the Morning Supervisor and she agreed that we only pay for 750 because they’re “waiving” the fee for the three more persons. That means they really didn’t believe us when we said there were ONLY three extra people in there. They can’t even show us one tiny bit of proof of how many they were able to count. The Morning Supervisor also told us to remember next time that visiting hours is only until 10pm. My cousin then told her that with the inconvenience they caused us, there will be no next time because we are never going back to that hotel to check in ever again!

I have a lot of colleagues here in Manila who often ask me where to stay when in Iloilo. I’ll have the perfect answer next time: “NOT in SMALLVILLE 21.”

Due to the many good reviews on Trip Advisor, my sister made a reservation for two rooms. She booked a De Luxe Matrimonial for our parents and a Standard Twin for the both of us.

We liked our rooms - basically clean and spacious with just a few mold spots in the shower area. There's no fridge but that didn't matter much to us. The air conditioning (A/C) units in the rooms are manually operated which was okay except it had one of us getting up every so often just to adjust the temperature. Though in my parent's room, the A/C had a funny smell when it was in the warmer temperature range. I'm thinking that the filter needed to be cleaned.

We asked for rooms on the top floor (the hotel is eight storeys high) as we read about the music level coming from the bars next door. If you're sensitive to noise and will be staying during the weekend, get a room facing the Iloilo-Ayala Technohub. Our room was on the side of The Avenue and I could hear the music blaring loudly way past midnight. My parents were across the hall and did not hear a thing.

A surprising touch was that the hotel provided two (2) umbrellas in each room for the guests to borrow during their stay (you'll have to return it though as it's not complimentary).

So what didn't we appreciate about the hotel?

1. They charge Php 35 per night for the second extra blanket.

Let me explain. Having worked in hotels both locally and in the U.S., I know that the thick top blanket is not washed regularly so I always ask for another flat sheet (the thin sheet underneath). The front desk agent informed me that only the first is free but the second will cost us.

I could understand if there had only been one bed in the room, but since there were two (2) beds and two (2) guests, this was not logical to me.

2. The hotel charges Php 200 for every hour you use the room past the 12 Noon check-out time.

This would have been fine if the hotel were at maximum capacity, but when my parents asked if anyone else would be checking into the room after us, the agent said no and that the hotel was not full. Note that we were only asking for an hour's extension (until 1 PM) since our flight was at 3:35 PM and we were thinking of having lunch first before leaving.

We've been to many places and stayed at all sorts of hotels both here and abroad and I must say this is the first time we've ever encountered this type of charging. Take note that we are budget travellers so we hardly use ritzy hotels, thus I can only conclude that they're not into going the extra mile for their customers.

3. Our electronic keys (VingCards) were deactivated at around 10 AM on the day of our departure.

I went downstairs to complain the front desk agent told me that the card was just "faulty." I didn't believe her since it was fine just 30 minutes earlier when we went back up after having breakfast at the lobby. When we returned from the mall at around 11 AM, my parents tried to open their door but it would not budge either.

I then called the agent from our room and told her that it's too much of a coincidence for both cards to be "faulty" right before check-out time considering that they had been working perfectly until 9 AM that morning.

A few minutes later, the front desk agent phoned us back asking what time we were checking-out. I questioned her as to why she was asking since my parents had already inquired earlier about extending. She replied that she just wanted to inform us that they were allowing the extension and that we can check-out at 1 PM.

After putting down the phone, I rang her back to ask why she didn't just tell us about the extension to begin with instead of asking what time we were leaving the hotel. If they really wanted to give us the extension, then that should have been her opening line. I told her that the only time a hotel should call to confirm a guest's check-out time is if the clock has struck 12 Noon and we have yet to show up to pay the bill.

Now this may sound trivial to many, but at that point we were already so disgruntled with the hotel that it felt like one irritating thing on top of the other. Also, it seemed as as though they were way too keen to ensure we're still around to pay. The thing is, our rooms had already been paid for in full the day we checked-in.

What WAS nice was the location since it's inside the Smallville Business Park. Across the street from the hotel you'll find The Avenue on your right and the Iloilo-Ayala Technohub on your left. Both have a lot of dining options so you'll never go hungry with a lot of restaurants just a few steps away - literally! Take note though that the Kopi Roti branch here opens at 4 PM so breakfast is out of the question.

Most places were also just a short taxi ride away - the central market, pier to Guimaras, etc. But if this will be your main mode of transportation, bring a lot of cash as there's quite a bit of traffic. To give you an idea, the trip from the airport to the hotel (around 20-30 mins) was Php 250, going to the area of Breakthough Restaurant and Tatoy's was over Php 200 from the hotel.

And if you're planning to take a taxi to go back to the airport, the cab drivers will not use their meters and charge a fixed rate of Php 400 instead. Their reason for this is because they won't be able to get passengers on their way back to the city and they'll be wasting gas. What we did instead was get the airport shuttle at SM City Iloilo where it will only cost Php 70 per passenger. The mall also has a Traveller's Lounge where you can take a shower or leave your bags while going around the city.
