The Sugarland Hotel is one of the older hotels in Bacolod. Although its size is relatively small, it is well-maintained overall and it has character. The rooms have traditional motifs and are beautiful even if age shows scratches on the hardwood floors.

Quite importantly in a hotel, the bed was very comfortable and unlike so many hotels in the Philippines, the window AC worked very well and was able to keep the room very comfortable.

The breakfast buffet was definitely Filipino breakfast (not Western), but it was delicious. It is worth getting a rate that includes breakfast.

On the weekend, the venue was busy with wedding receptions, birthday parties, and other major events--and yet the room was quiet.

As for location, it is on a main road but near the edge of town. Still, major malls were generally less than 15 minutes away and taxi fare to them was 100 pesos or less.

Overall, we were very satisfied with the hotel and prefer it to L'Fisher.

We are currently staying at this beautifully renovated hotel for a destination wedding. While we had a glitch early on with our room, the supervisor (John) immediately took action and fixed our issues. Loved the quick response and hospitality of the staff of this charming hotel. The hotel has also been tastefully renovated as it looks more like a boutique hotel than your average business hotel making our stay more homey and pleasant. Breakfast was abundant and very good too! Room was comfortable with kettle and fridge making it convenient to purchase goodies while in Bacolod.

Excellent hotel. Very quiet room. At certain times there was not enough hot water but since it is a hot destination it was tolerated very well. The staff is very friendly and always with a smile. Breakfast was not very varied but acceptable. They have their own parking and swimming pool.
It is not in the center. Two blocks away there is a supermarket with a food court

Held our 40th High School Reunion at Sugarland Hotel on April 27,2024. Stayed with friends from US on April 25-29 and we got nothing but excellent service everyone. At the onset of my planning, I was assisted by Lynsie and she provided me with the information needed to make our party a success. The staff during our party were all professional and kind. The staff at breakfast like Dwight, Pommel, Robert etc will go out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. The rooms are fine with wood floors reminding us of the old Hacienda feel. Thanks also for the security guards who always make sure to open the door for us and see that we are safe. To everyone, thank you so much for your warm hospitality. We truly enjoyed our stay at Sugarland. God bless you and keep going the great work!

I was attending a party in the hotel that night and decided that I would rather check-in for the night than drive home late. The room price (I got superior) was very reasonable plus I had a seniors’ discount. What a surprise to see a beautiful newly-renovated home with an hacienda feel with the wooden planks. So homey plus the black out curtains would certainly give one a restful sleep. Am waiting for the next party and will definitely book myself again there. By the way, Twist, the restaurant serves really good food (I’m picky with my food) and at very reasonable prices. I had US angus pot roast for my lunch!

We are extremely delighted to know you enjoyed your stay in our refreshed rooms that now exude the bright hacienda vibe with the wood floors, wood fixtures and interiors. We wish to thank you too for the thumbs up on our menu pricing and food quality at Twist. The US Angus Pot Roast is one of my personal favorites as well. One of the few remaining original hotels of Bacolod that has withstood time and competition. Their facilities are great and their food is superb. Amongst the best in The City of Smiles. They offer the best of local and international cuisine. I love their fresh garden salad.

Dear Mr. Darrelljava, Thank you for your kind words and description of your recent experience at Sugarland Hotel. We celebrated last May 2024 the 50th Anniversary of the hotel, which translates to half a century of serving our guests both at the hotel and at the ballrooms / function spaces with our hacienda lifestyle and cuisine offered at Twist. We are aware of the numerous options available in Bacolod and wish to extend our gratitude to you, a valued client for entrusting us and rating our hotel facilities and food that we serve as superb and one of the top hotels in the area. We hope to welcome you back at the hotel sometime soon and again, we thank you for the wonderful review. Sincerely. JOHN TANJANGCO

This was an old and pitiful hotel. The food not great.
Cleanliness did not seem to be a priority.
No hot water in the shower most of the time.
I spoke to the owner about my concerns, I noticed that her mind was elsewhere.
It's a shame because that city and its people were so beautiful and extremely hospitable.

Dear Venture47527942262, Thank you for your review submitted here in Trip Advisor. It is with much regret to learn that your stay at Sugarland Hotel, merited a 1 star rating and a heading “Awful Experience”. Although your comments from your stay were posted last November 2023, it does not indicate the date of your actual stay and without details mentioned, how do we go about rectifying your concerns? Sugarland Hotel values all comments posted in this platform and would want to know which food was not great for you? Was it our food at Twist Cafe, or at one of the events in our function rooms? What dishes did you try? We take comments on our food very seriously and would like to address your comment at the soonest possible time. You indicated cleanliness is not a priority at the hotel but what specifically did you find unclean: the hotel room, the public areas like the lobby or was it our restaurant? Again, details would be appreciated for us to address your concerns. You also stated no hot water in the shower in each of our guest rooms. This issue would have been addressed if you told any of our more than happy to help staff on duty. We have individual multi contact water heaters installed in every room or suite so this could have been adjusted to your preference. Again, Sugarland Hotel welcomes all reviews both negative and positive. Our gratitude for taking time to write and let us know where we can improve on our services rendered to all clients. My email address is jtanjangco@sugarlandhotel.com. Sincerely, John Tanjangco General Manager

Beware of checking in at this hotel, they will require you to post a security deposit. In my case I gave my credit card as a guarantee for the security deposit and upon checking out, the person on the front desk told me that everything is settled and ok, after a month my credit card statement arrived and I was surprised that the hotel charged me P5,000 representing the security deposit. I called them up around 4 or 5 times and the one I talked to named Daniel assured me they will credit it back, as of this writing Feb. 8, 2017, they have not done so. Avoid this hotel but if you still decide to stay, use cash as a security deposit. I hope mine was just an isolated case.

CUSTOMER SERVICE-We are about to leave the hotel already when a receptionist by the name of "Daniel" stopped us allegedly because we have not yet settled our bill. I told him that we availed of Filipiniana Tours and have paid everything already. He was insistent that there was no payment and SHOUTED at me to call the agency. Is it not your responsibility to have contacted the agency? You already knew from day 1 that we availed their services. I think you should be re-trained again on how to deal with customers. I know for a fact that CUSTOMER SERVICE takes a BACKSEAT here in the Philippines, but this by far tops the WORST customer service ever. We are just so disappointed with his attitude and by the way he treated us.

Rooms- I would not have minded the room that was given us but because the receptionist ruined my stay in Bacolod, I might as well review it also. Our room was probably the cheapest in the hotel because it was old, musty and no view. Aside from the smell of the room and old toilet, what made it worse was the bed sheets that has stains in it which looked like blood. I think they forgot to change the bedheets when we checked in. I cringe everytime I think about it and told the lady receptionist to NEVER EVER USE that bedsheet again.

FOOD-Not so much choices for breakfast but I'm not really complaining since it is free. You can order food from the menu and it is quite good.

We arrived at the hotel past 9 in the evening on January 2.

1. When we got out of the car, no one assisted to bring our luggage inside the hotel lobby.
2. The guard on duty just stood outside the door and did nothing. Did not even show some courtesy.
3. When I arrived at the front desk, the ladies did not even say "Good evening".
4. The front desk lady did not give instruction on where should we go or pass to access our room.
5. Worst! No bell boy was around to help us with our luggages. We brought with us 3 backpacks, 1 big maleta and 1 small maleta. We had to carry it ourselves up to our room in the 2nd floor.
6. When we arrived in our room, there was no slippers, the refridgerator wasnt turned on, the room was small for 3 occupants, ugly mattress.
7. The breakfast buffet was good.
8. The guys in the restaurant didnt not even bother to say Good morning to us!

I think you should lower down your rates. Instead of P2900 per night, why not reduce it to 900 coz thats the equivalent of your hotel's service to your guest.

Will not come back.

Hello Mimi! I apologize for the late response. So I know that there's hotels in Bacolod my aunt ( she's a prominent physician in the city of Bacolod) attends for meetings or parties which are L'Fisher and Sugarland. I was surprised that she chose Sugarland actually. But the reason why is that you get a bang for your buck. L'Fisher charges you a service charge for every detail. Also, the ballroom is extravagant already that you just need to spend money on the decoration of the birthday party! The money I spend also for my hotel at L'Fisher for 2 nights was almost the same amount at Sugarland for 5 nights. If your looking to have a celebration, I would chose Sugarland. However, if you like to be entertainment at night, swim in a clean pool and have a beautiful view of Bacolod, party at the roof top of Chalet, enjoy the breakfast buffet with lots of selections and go to the spa to get a relaxing massage or facial then I would recommend L'Fisher!
