I stayed here one only one night. Cebu has a problem - most resorts are either really expensive or not good at all. Karancho was in the middle. The rooms were actually quite nice - modern and fresh, and well fitted out. What was wrong was everything else.

I had only booked it in Expedia a few hours before I arrived, so as expected I knew they would not have my booking info yet. They let me check in, but after I was in the room, they said the booking was for another room - the one beside me. I said it's OK to stay in my room, but they insisted that I move. I told them I want to myself, but they just started picking up (and dropping) my stuff. The room I moved to was they same, except it had one more bed. I have no idea why they insisted I move as I was only one person.

They have a funny policy - there is a "corkage fee" for any drinks you bring to your room - P150 per beer to drink your own beer! They do have a small bar, but it was unattended during the whole time. I think it was only me and one other guest that day.

The breakfast was not bad, but it came in from the outside and was very cold by the time it got to me.

The shower heater did not seem to work, but I was OK with a cold shower.

The area around the resort has a supermarket directly across the street, and some small stores and restaurants down the street. It's not a pleasant walk as there are no sidewalks and it is a bit treacherous as traffic will not give you safe space.

This area primarily caters to a Korean crowd. Most bars and restaurants are in Korean. Evidently, this is a popular spot for them to come and study English for up to three months at a time.

Other than that, its a pretty good value for a new and modern looking room. The staff just needs a little more service training.

the idea of adding a pseudo-luxury accommodation within the premises of a typical inexpensive local style public resort comes in my opinion off place.
no surprise since kitches and things that dont belong together are part of the local mass culture in this otherwise attractive country with easygoing, pleasant people.

i can long elaborate on why this new building does not fit well there, but i will start and finish with the thought that if a luxury accommodation is offered, it usually comes with the offer of peace for the guests, and peace is the last thing you would get in the resort.
it is meant to be used by large groups who frequent the cottages bringing own food, drinks, and loud music with.... nothing bad about it, it is what it is. the fact is that you only get peace and silence when the last visitor leaves, late at night.

aside from that, the stuff is not instructed to the least how to handle any hotel category at all.... luxury accommodation with minimum wage paid employees...
this is obvious from the very first moment of arrival.
nobody sees the coming taxi, you have to walk to the front desk and stand in front to make your arrival acknowledged. then there is nobody to pick your baggage from the taxi.... i did it myself. later different parties were called to come carry my baggage to the room, until finally somebody showed up. you are just delivered to your room, and left there, without further explanations of anything.
you have to inquire later about the included breakfast and the first day the girl was not even sure what is offered for drinks, saying there are no juices, which were offered to me the second morning. being asked what time i like the breakfast delivered, i said 8am, it was brought to me at 6:30am, and so on.

finally, if you think you are going to a beach you will be disappointed. it is small and even at high tide you can barely get well in the water which is not that clear. there are some boatsmen around offering you a boat trip, or simply to bring you in deeper water. i reached the place for the divers... nothing so exciting to see underwater either.

all in all, if looking for a beach, go elsewhere, if looking for a nice accommodation simply chose a good 4 stars hotel in the city.

After night cap in the metro of Cebu. Friends and I decided to drove to Lapu2 to escape from the city, we landed in Karancho.

It was low tide when we arrived yet we still get the chance to admire as the place is quiet and water is cold.

It is good that the management charge entrance fee for those non-guests so to control people coming in especially late nights.

Stayed here for 8 days and had a wonderful time! The location is great. It's right across a grocery, and so near many establishments (mcdonalds, a taco shop, a cafe, etc). The resort is family run so everyone working there is so accommodating and helpful and warm.
We also booked a day of island hopping through Karancho and it was a great hassle free experience! After that, we had some drinks at their cool bar out front which also offers a great selection of food. Their beach is the perfect place to catch the sunrise, and they also sell the best mango graham shakes ever. 10/10 staying here the next time i'm in cebu!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE.
First, they do not tell you at the onset that you have to pay again for the cottage for night use. Surprise.
Second, no faucet.
Third, no flush or restroom lock.
Fourth, no tissue and dirty comfort room.
Fifth, staff are not accommodating and have not helpful. Not welcoming especially the mother of the wife of the owner, as if the customers are bothering her for being there. Not friendly at all.
Not worth the money. Not transparent with the charges. We would never go back and would not recommend to anyone. We paid for the karaoke but then the manager said we can no longer continue after our 2nd song. Wow!

Since this was our first visit to the Philippines we decided to go to Cebu to a resort. We researched this place, they advertised a pool and beach. No pool....beach was terrible! No loungers, no place to even sit on the beach as it was taken up by the public day and night! They rent out huts to families and this is where they party all day....all night! Sleep did not come easy due to the noise, karaoke, constant partying. We booked for 9 long days! Thank goodness there were tours to take and we walked quite a bit and explored . Cebu is beautiful, wish I could say the same about this place! It was cleaned every day, staff was great. Boardwalk is in dire need of repair. Broken planks everywhere. So if you are a partier and like to go all night long this is the place for you, other wise avoid if you want to sleep!!!

Room and staff good but the noise is too much. Local people come in to use the beach and this means lots of noise including karaoke from early morning (7am!) until early next morning (1am) and they don’t even leave quietly, screaming and shouting as they pass the accommodation on their way out. Guests are not the priority here. Although the room is modern, clean and comfortable the noise has ruined the stay and I would not consider returning.

I had been to Cebu - several times, in fact. When we headed there again on a planned vacation, therefore, I did not expect much. It was, for me, a possible get together with friends that might prove more fun than the place. Boy, was I wrong! Our friends could not come and Cebu was still wonderful!
Jojo Amores had planned our vacation by giving suggestions. I kept silent and acquiesced to my wife's enthusiasm dreading a hectic and tiresome vacation. I was wrong again! Well half-wrong -- it was hectic, it was tiresome But I Loved It!
Karancho is a small family resort tucked between high rise resort-hotels right in the city. It operates in between two eras of beach outings: that of a rent-a-shed-or-table resort of old; and a full blown sustainable modern one. Being there, seeing local folk picnic on the beautiful beach, was a throw back for me. Still, we had the most modern of clean rooms. Jojo is still in process of new ideas and making Karancho evolve into something great. He arranged for us Whale Shark snorkelling in Oslob, Canyoneering, and on the first 2 days, a series of 5 wonderful dives. It was grand! I had never seen Cebu that way nor have I ever gotten tired and achey and loved every bit of it. It was the best vacation I have ever had! We are definitely going back, doing the exact same thing plus plus, next time with our daughters who are unfortunately abroad. Of course, it will be Karancho again. I can surely declare: Cebu is better than Disney Land and Karancho is home.

Room Tip: We did not stay at the 2nd Floor. I think from there, you get a view of the beach.

The noise level here is unbearable. This is a very popular party event center with locals. Filipinos love their food, family, beer and non-stop Karaoke. It starts at 8 am and goes until 3-4 am. Seven to ten machines going at once, full blast and shaking the walls and floors. Ear plugs are worthless. Front staff doesn't care as they make more off of the parties. The beach is bleh.

Quite possibly the two worst night's sleep I have ever had. The 22 hours of flying, were better than my stay here. Let that sink in. Other guests were outraged and looked exhausted.

This is a Quant little ristic hotel that has a small dirty beaxh on it. Staff during the day is fantastic. THE MAJOR DOWNSIDE of this resort is the noise from the locals coming in to hotel courtyard to party unto 5am in the morning. The staff will refuse to do anything about it.
