We stayed at Escario Central Hotel 6 different times ! over 6 weeks in June & July. We flew into Cebu from Australia this time ,rather than Manila ! Cebu is so better ! & much cheaper !
After a recommendation from friends ,decided to try Escario & booked online to initially stay just ! for the first night we arrived in Cebu , as we were going to Bohol the next day on the ferry .
I can see why ? they call it " Escario Central Hotel " as its so central to pretty much " Everything " you need or may want to do in Cebu city , and at a very reasonable price & its modern and clean .
As Escario is new, I found a couple of Taxi drivers that did not know were it was , But you just tell them across road from Jolly Bee & Next to McDonalds on Escario Ave , and your there !
The Entrance to Escario is like a Mall ? or centre , that you drive into Full of Trendy Cafe's , Bars , Restaurants , with Escario entrance at the end ! with free parking and Excellent ! 24 hour Security , that also help you get your bags from your Taxi or car .
Escario reception is bright , clean and friendly , by staff in neat clean uniform's . I found all the staff friendly and very helpful and efficient ! and the hotel house keeping staff were excellent !
The standard red rooms are Clean , Modern , & have 2 full length double beds ,separate bathroom with hot cold water ,and a decent size ,good shower ! and rooms have a flat screen TV ,AC ,& Free WiFi and Free news papers and a computer in reception if you need it .
The only Negative is there is no refrigerator ! in a standard room , but for 100 peso extra per day ,you can have a ref option ,or queen size beds option rooms , but i found the standard rooms very good for the price . There is 24/7 food and cold drinks etc at the excellent 7Eleven store a 1 minute walk from your room ! or 2 minute walk next door to McDonalds , or across the road 3 minutes walk is Jolly Bee if you want fast food !
But if you want something more ! Both sides of the entrance to Escario there is maybe ? 10 x EXCELLENT ! bars ,cafes, restaurants, open till late , serving traditional Filipino foods ,American , Spanish , Italy , & Western foods , and coffee bars with lovely cakes etc , and a few trendy shops. My favourite was the cafe Sari ,were all the local Filipino's and business people seemed to meet , for a meal ,coffee etc . You can get a breakfast voucher from Escario reception for Sari sari cafe for 180 peso , giving you several options for breakfast with excellent coffee , or meals from there menu . Escario to Ayala shopping centre is so close , only 80 peso ? SM mall 120 ? peso ,Robinsons mall maybe 100 peso by Taxi . You only have to walk out of the reception ! and the excellent security staff will get you a licenced taxi , and note there number in there security log , and tell the driver were you want to go .
We ended up using Escario as a base ! as its so central to Cebu city ,business ,banking ,shopping ,even medical , and only 200 ? odd peso Taxi ride to the Airport & Ferry terminal with 1 hour away , ferry ride to Bohol !
We then flew to Luzon for a week ,then back to Cebu , to Escario for a night , then ferry to Bohol and Panglao islands for a week , then back to Cebu for a full week ,at Escario , then flew to Mindanao for a week , then back to Cebu ! to Escario for the night ! again . We then went back to Bohol for another week ,and then stayed at Escario the last 2 days before flying home to Australia. It really is so " CENTRAL " and convenient to " pretty much everything "
We travel the Philippines on a regular basis ,as we have bought land and built a house in Bohol , and will now use Escario Central Hotel as our base ! flying in and out of the Philippines to Cebu City . Sure its not 5 Star ! but its Central ,Cheap, Modern and since the recent earthquake ! a very good feature ! its single storey !!! with a very safe design with wide walkways to nice green lawns and its very secure ! . It seems to be in a very good area on Escario avenue , and its well off the road , so its quiet ! and you don't get people just walking in all hours as the 24/7 security is there . I personally always look at what security there is , were I stay in the Philippines , especially in the larger city's , these guys were exceptional at there job , and making sure we were taken care of ,and checking where we wanted to go in Cebu , getting us numerous taxis each day ! and they were so appreciative for the tips I gave them , the head of security told me they bought extra coffee and food those nights , So give them a tip ! they are looking after you ! ensuring safety to you and your family and even 20 to 50 peso ! goes a long way for them .
If you want 5 star ? even 4 star ? ,perhaps an infinity pool ? or a beach ? Escario Central is not for you ! Its not romantic ! or silver service ! but Escario is Central ! Convenient ! Clean ! Modern ! Safe and Secure at a budget price ! saving money for all the other nice things ! in the Philippines :) and right around the corner ! from pretty much everything ! in Cebu city :)

Tip @ Mactan Airport , arrivals taxis are usually fixed price 500 + ? peso to your hotel !
Just walk out the arrivals doors, straight across the car & taxi pickup area, go up the ramp walkway through into Departures ! walk out the front doors and the normal white ,Metered Taxis are dropping off there fares , so you just wait for a good clean ,roadworthy ! looking Taxi & your flag fall ,on the meter is only 40 peso ! & then its the fixed Taxi rate . From Airport to Escario 180 peso .

Although I am from Australia ,I stay at Escario Central since its opening in early 2012. My lovely wife of 7 years is Filipino & she was born in the Chocolate Hill Mountains of Bohol. Early in 2012 we also bought land in Bohol and built a beautiful house in the mountains. I use to stay at another hotel close by ! but Since Escario Central was built we use it as a base when in Cebu when we fly in before we go on the fast ferry to Bohol in 1 hour .It really is right ! in the heart of Cebu , only minutes from Ayala shopping centre ! 70 peso by taxi .To the ferry terminal its about 200 peso ? and the Airport maybe 250 to 280 peso if busy traffic. So its Central to everything you need in Cebu ! Its in its own private precinct ! or like a small mall . There is EXCEPTIONAL SECURITY ! AND VERY SAFE ! " You Cant Just Walk In Off The Street ! " Without the head of security Mr Gonzales or his team of immaculately dressed security ! well equipped ! and well trained officers assisting you , getting your bags ? or getting a licensed clean taxi for you , even writing in there register the taxi ID & number and advise the driver were you are going ! for your safety !
Now although Security in todays world ! is unfortunately a necessity ! not only in the Philippines , but in most other overseas destinations ! Security is Important for you and your family's safety ! How do I know ? I have been in the Security Business & Law Enforcement for over 38 years in Australia so I know what is good ! security & whats Bad ! Escario Central has a team of Security Officers that is Professional And Exceptional 24/7. * Note wages in Philippines are unfortunately low ! all these men have family's ! they are there to look after you ! * So please look after them !
Give them a tip ! 50 to 100 peso ? even or buy an extra coffee ? at McDonalds or some bread rolls from the little bakery around the corner ! or a litre Coke @ the
7 Eleven ! they will greatly appreciate it and these men work 24/7 for your safety !
THIS IS ONLY 1 OF THE REASONS ! I make Escario my home when in Cebu.
Its very clean ! Its single storey ! so in an earthquake your going to be safe ! its fully contained within a small private shopping precinct ,with restaurants and several bars ,cafes and even a Bank & an Excellent 24/7 Seven Eleven store at the entrance . There is Jolly Bee directly across the road , on Escario Avenue , even a McDonalds next door.
Within Escario Central there are numerous EXCELLENT Restaurants and bars ! These are All places you can safely take your wife & children or family or impress your girl friend all within the " Secure & Safe Escario Precinct " There are several Exceptional places to eat ! .....1/ Pizzeria Michelangelo's best restaurant in Cebu 2013-2014 owned By a true Italian " Marco " They not only cook genuine authentic Italian foods & amazing Pizza's but the best pizza I have eaten travelling in the Philippines over 10 years ! .... 2/ Is the " Politics Bar & Restaurant " Run by a Filipino also called Marco and his team. These guys have the " COLDEST SAN MIGUEL BEER ON ICE " to the most expensive Champagne ! or even Cocktails . Marco is a Legend ! as soon as you walk in the door ! you are given a genuine friendly greeting by your first name once they know you ! and the drink of your choice " ICE COLD " at very ! reasonable prices ! On Thursday to Saturday night this is a "Very Trendy ! & Classy Place to have a drink ! or a meal. There is a range of some of the most expensive cars ! Porsche , Hummers , Nissan GT Skylines , latest Ford Mustangs , Latest 4WD's you name it ! I have seen in the Philippines ! parked out front ! There are no lady boys, street or bar girls here ! There are NO people off the street trying to sell you something ! ? or worse ! you are safe here ! I have eaten in most of the eatery's and offer Traditional Filipino foods , Italian , and International foods , even Zubu Chon ! that offer Lechon ! Traditional Whole Spit roasted Pigs ! ITS ALL IN ONE PLACE " ESCARIO CENTRAL . If by chance ? you don't want fast food ? or Gourmet food at very reasonable prices ! and you just want fish ? or chicken ? there is Penong's Escario Across the road to the right of Jolly Bee ! They offer" Excellent Authentic Filipino "dishes BBQ pork ,chicken, fish rice, etc. at budget prices ! but still quality food ! then this is the place to eat . I am very fussy with what I eat when I am away from home ! and don't want to get sick ! Plus my wife being Filipino , she knows what's fresh and a clean safe place to eat ! ALL of these places are EXCELLENT !
Now the staff at Escario are " EXCEPTIONAL , Polite & Helpful,& honest , the cleaning staff are also vey good ! making your bed , with clean sheets , fresh bottled water and clean towels every day ! there is also 2 double ? size beds in every standard room ice cold air conditioner and cable TV :) and CCTV once you enter the walkways to your room and the gardens surrounding.
Now Escario Central is not 5 Star ! It does not have a Pool ! A view over the ocean ! But its great Value for money ! The manager Lady will give you a deal if your staying for a longer period of time ! Its Clean ! , Its Safe ! and your belongings secure ! There is free Wi-Fi and a free computer in reception. Its Central ! Its has everything I want when I am staying in Cebu . I have stayed for a week or two several times a month ! over the last 3 + years since it opened ! When we are flying in , out or around the Philippines . Cebu is much Cheaper ! Cleaner ! , Less Polluted ! and much safer than Manila ! You can stay for a Week ! for the price of one or two nights in Manila.
Now just so you know ! I have no Connection whatsoever ! with Escario Central ! but we travel regularly to the Philippines , to our home in Bohol , and to visit family in various parts of the Philippines from Mindanao to Luzon and The Visayas Islands We use Escario Central as our Base " Flying In , Around , Or Out of the Philippines " and I personally would not stay anywhere else ! in Cebu !
My only complaint ! Management ! is there is No safe-deposit box to put your passport or documents cash etc in your room ! but if you ask reception , they will take care off it ! for you or refrigerator ! but if you ask ! for a small fee a refrigerator is provided !
Thankyou Australian guy 1

Escario hotel:

Checked in for 2 nights as it was close to many financial institutions. Location was convenient as 7-11 and various restaurants/ fast food and coffee shops were located practically outside my doorsteps. You will also find an establishment that does massages in the same area. Grounds were kept neat and clean and I was surprised despite the busy street outside things were quiet and calm. No Pool just an fyi. Ample parking, and I believe at no charge.

Room: We booked what they call the “orange room” which states it is a double queen bed. I’m not sure if they were truly double queen beds as both the room and beds are on the tiny side. I would say the beds were full size. Had we been of a large stature it would’ve felt as if we were giants stuffed into a tiny room. I had many pieces of luggage with me as I had just recently arrived. Imagine 2 full size beds with luggage in an efficiency sized apartment, this is the feeling you will get. A/c blew cold and included was a I think about a 20 in. flat screen with cable. There was also a small wardrobe unit to store your belongings, and I did not see an in-room safe. Free wifi. Clean room.

Bathroom was equally tiny but layed out in a practical manner. I stood there trying to figure out how the shower worked as there were no instructions. After many twists and turns of the knobs and switches, alas warm water to shower with. Water flow was a little better than a trickle and so was the bathroom faucet to the sink. There was no option to turn up the water, was more like an on and off function with the same flow throughout using it.

Staff: I did not really have a lot of face time or interaction with the staff. There were a few times were when we needed something or asked something they were pretty quick about it. So no complaints there. The security guard was equally friendly, if not more, attentive than the hotel staff themselves. A plus!

Check out: took longer than expected, receptionist called someone to check our room or something before giving us the “ok” to depart. Pretty Strange. I did notice a computer and possibly a printer in the front desk area. I did not ask or use the computer but might be helpful should you need to check in for your flight. Not sure if there's a charge.

Overall I’d say you get what you pay for, as the pricing was of good value. Close and convenient to many locations, easy to hail a cab and be on your way. I’d stay here again if needed minus the numerous amount of luggage I had in tow. Just don’t expect this to be of the same caliber with the likes of Marriott and other big name hotels. Think more on the side of B&B and or a mom and pops place that has been recently renovated.

Tip to the staff at the front desk: You could be more cordial and accommodating to your guests. Don’t stand there as if whatever is on the tv is more important than the guest. After all, although your pricing is of good value, I’m still paying for a room.

I always try to stay to a new hotel every time I go to any city in the Philippines to make sure that the linens are still fresh, beds are new, bathroom and room in general are clean. Later, when after I booked a full week reservation on their website, I found out that it was all messed up! Even when I had one of their staff stayed on the phone while I was doing the reservation. Eventually, she got pissed and raised her tone on me when I told her to guarantee that I will have the same rate I am trying to secure online if I follow her instructions to have the booking done the next day because she doesn't know what to do and the only person can help me is her supervisor who will be coming the next day. The next day came and voila, the supervisor texted me that I will get the same rate and my reservation will be done on their end. However, 2 hours later, she texted me again to inform me about the changes of their rates. WHAT THE HELL?!? Obviously, they have untrained staff who pretends they know what to do and giving out wrong information.

I figured, it's not worth it anymore. It took me 4 days to deal with them about my reservation and even after that it was not even fixed. Ridiculous! After hours of waiting for her confirmation if she was able to fix it, I decided to look for another hotel who have the same quality rooms and real Filipino hospitality.

This hotel needs to improve customer service, their website, and their communication.

Beware on using your credit card to secure your booking. Don't do the same mistake that I did. Goodluck!

This review has been escalated to top management right when this review was posted. We sincerely apologize for this untoward incident. The concerned staff and supervisor has been investigated and actions were taken. However, bookings from electronic channels like Agoda, Expedia and the likes have their own booking engine/ portal/ site independent from the hotel's website and the hotel has no authority to maneuver a booking when placed on their system . The hotel's website is capable of accepting only non guaranteed reservations to eliminate the requirement of a credit card. Guarantee is practiced only when required on peak dates (e.g. Sinulog festival). But we truly believe that the matter could have been handled in a better manner. I hope this does not stop you from giving us another chance to be of service.

My wife & I stayed here for two nights to attend to a wedding.

We checked in on Friday & checked out at 12:00noon on Sunday just in time for the 1:00pm wedding ceremony at a nearby church. Left our baggage at the counter. After two hours, or by 3:00pm we went back to claim our baggage.

We politely asked the front desk clerk if it is possible that we can use a room for us to change from our formal outfit to a casual wear because we were catching a fast ferry ride by 5:00pm going to Ormoc but unfortunately we were denied.

Luckily, one guest, who has just finished doing check in procedure was kind enough to let us into her room to change our clothes.

How inconsiderate of your staff or perhaps your policy not to entertain simple request of you patrons.

I hope this can be addressed by your management the soonest possible time.

If you go to the end of N. Escario Street - a quiet avenue in Kamputhaw, Cebu City - you will find a small hotel called the Escario Central Hotel, and your entry into the hotel will be quietly observed by the Official Dog from his security vantage post under a chair.

Tariffs at the Hotel are reasonable. The staff are all competent and friendly. The style is a single-storey layout surrounding a small courtyard. The courtyard has tables and chairs and is a peaceful green oasis in a busy city. A couple of cats will greet you in the courtyard and if you offer them a snack you’ll become their Best Friend Ever. Rooms are good and clean. The Hotel operates Wi Fi, and the TV in each room has a good range of local and foreign stations.

Breakfast can be ordered from Reception and is prepared by the award-winning restaurant, “Café Sarree”, across the road, or you can wander over to eat there.

The entire street has been recently developed, and all security and parking are coordinated. Parking is ample. It is the first street I’ve seen anywhere in the world where the footpath is mopped daily. Security is taken seriously in the street and guards abound. If a stray dog dares enter the street the Official Dog is activated, and he will bare in teeth in an exaggerated gesture that he learned in Acting School as he chases the interloper out of the street.

Restaurants on the street include the before-mentioned “Café Sarree”, which even has oats on the breakfast menu; “Portos” which serves good food at a good price; a quality Italian restaurant called “Pizzeria Michelangelo” with waiters dressed in gangster-chic and a manager from Sardinia; and a restaurant called “Zebu Chon” serving Filipino food, notably Lechon. Also on the street are: a western-style bar; an office-services place with internet access; a ladies’ nails studio, a ladies “face and body care” centre; a bank (although it does not do money exchange); a travel agent; and a 7-11 store on the corner. Unfortunately the source of the best-tasting coffee on the street, a cakes-and-coffee shop called “Brioche”, has just closed.

When you leave the Hotel after your stay, the Official Dog will not say good-bye, but he will notice your baggage from the corner of his eye, and he will cross you off his Current Guest List. He will look forward to you coming again, although he considers wagging his tail as inappropriate to the gravitas of his official role.

While the staff is pleasant enough, the rooms of this so-called "hotel"—really, it's more of a motel—are incredibly spare. Another reviewer called them “minimalist”; I call it cheap. While we were grateful to have air-conditioning and two bottles of water, that’s where the frills stopped. You get one tiny bar of soap, one shampoo-conditioner, and one towel per person. No hand towel, no washcloth, and the one towel they do issue wasn’t even large enough to wrap around my reed-thin boyfriend’s waist.

The bigger problem for us, however, was the ants. Our room was overrun with them! We killed dozens in the course of several hours. I see now that another reviewer complained about an ant problem in his room two years ago; management wrote back to say they were dealing with it. Well, they need to deal with it again. Certainly the two-inch gap between the floor and the bottom of the door isn’t helping.

We also found it a little weird that the front desk insisted we leave 500P cash with them as a deposit for incidentals; why not just hold our credit card, like every other hotel on earth? When we went to check out, we had to remind them to give us our refund—and were told we’d need to wait while the room was checked for damages. Really? I’ve traveled all over the world and never experienced anything like this.

As mentioned by other reviewers, I don't appreciate the lack of a safe box in the room (sorry, I'm not leaving cash and passports with strangers at the front desk). And while it's cool that you get such a huge window, you can't open the shade because it looks right out on a public walkway and into other rooms! The lack of light made the room feel like a dark, tiny, windowless box.

On the plus side: The WiFi worked well in the room—so that was good. The location, at the far end of the Escario Central strip mall, is pretty great. You’ve got Brioche for breakfast/pastries, Michelangelo’s for pizza, Zubuchon for lechon, a well-outfitted 7-Eleven, and a guarded ATM machine. The security guards (and there are many of them) will gladly hail you a cab—and usually in 1/100th the amount of time it’d take you to grab one yourself out on the street. We were very pleased with the location.

The bottom line: Don’t be fooled by the chic-looking photos on the website; this place isn’t nearly as cool and modern as it comes off. It’s passable for a night or two if you’re on a shoestring budget and just want a good location. But for the money, it should probably cost half of what it does.

We regret the bad experience and we already addressed the concern on cleanliness. The hotel's design is a fusion of sprawling modern and zen. Thus, the natural elements has to be considered. However, we have taken note of this review and contacted a third party supplier to help us lessen ants and mosquitoes. The property definitely has a generator on stand by. There has been several improvements and we hope that you can give the property a chance.

Rooms are absolutely simple but has the bare necessities you could ask for (bed, bathroom, a/c, hot and cold water, and even a flat screen!). It has very comfortable, huge single beds. Bathrooms are OK, size-wise it's enough for tall people to navigate around, my only complaint is i wish they could have put shelves at the sink to put your stuff on it while you do your thing. Its relatively new, so it's very clean. The halls are quiet. Location-wise, its just minutes away from the touristy and business areas of Cebu. The hotel itself is part of a strip mall. So, lots of interesting shops and restaurants. It's right next to a 7/11 convenience store, and a 24-hour McDonalds. The hotel staff were friendly and willing to help you in any way they can. They compensate simple rooms with an almost 5-star like customer service. They even offered to deliver McDonalds to my room (they don't have room service or a hotel restaurant). In conclusion: simple rooms great service at an affordable price that's worth every penny.

Place is a but small but good if you're on a budget and won't spend too much time in the room. TV is kinda small. Good location as there are restaurants and a convenience store just outside. WiFi may not be that fast but it is reliable.

no ref, no hair dryers but there are toiletries such as shampoo, soap and towels. I don't believe we were given any toothbrushes, but they do provide bottled water ( normally 2 ) everytime they clean the room. Room has a wardrobe unit where you can store your clothes. There is also free parking.
