Keep in mind this is a pension house, which is a Filipino term for an informal budget hotel similar to what Americans would call a hostel or what many Asian countries would consider a guesthouse. So don't expect your room to look like the luxury suite at Radisson Blu. Sure, the pension house can use touch-up paint here and there. But it's overall a new and clean place to stay. It's identical or cleaner to what you'd find at budget hotels in town where you pay almost double.
I didn't mind that the pension house had no elevator. Some guy can help move your luggage up the stairs. It’s only a concern if you cannot walk the stairs.
In my room, the AC got very cold to the point where I had to adjust the thermostat. It was also quiet inside. Yes, you'll hear an occasional dog barking or taxi honking on the street. But the pension house cannot control that.
Staying on the fourth floor, the wifi worked just fine on my laptop. But my phone and tablet couldn't maintain a signal.
Within 150 meters of the pension house, you will find 3 laundry shops, 2 internet cafes and a bakery.
While there are questionable characters walking around near Colon, the pension house is far enough away so that the immediate area feels safe. There are southbound jeepneys almost at the doorsteps of the pension house. For northbound ones, you’ll have to walk 10 minutes to Osmena Blvd. If you prefer a taxi, finding one at any hour is a non-concern.
I am a frequent visitor to Cebu and will definitely return.
You can take Jeepney ride to Robinson ,Mango Ave or Ayala Mall for 7 Peso. Cebu City South Terminal is just 5 min Taxi ride from the Hotel. I generally Hop to Cebu on my way to Maolboal , Oslab , Tagbilaran.
Robes is near to plenty of cafeterias or "carenderias" where you can have your meal if your in a tight budget. There are some laundry shops if you want your clothes to be cleaned after beach swimming.hehe. And bake shops as well. If im not mistaken the bake shops are open 24hrs if you want a very early breakfast for those who wants to go to oslob just like i did. It is also near to the bus terminal. You can walk from robes to the terminal. It is also near to different banks, crown regency and all sorts of places to eat. Oh and there are jeepneys that go straight to sm and ayala mall too. Just walk a couple of blocks to the main road. There you go.. All the possibilities if you stay at Robes.
P.S:they dont clean your room everyday so you have to request it.
:)
Because I got to the hotel much earlier than the check-in time, there were still guests in the room that was reserved for me and my friends (they were arriving much later that day). The staff and the guard were kind enough to let me put my luggage in their storage area so I could go around the city until it was time I could go into the room. They even gave me a free bottle of mineral water.
PROS:
> The room was quite spacious for its price (there were 5 of us and the room cost P1,500 so individually, we paid P300/night).
> Good wifi. Then again, we stayed at the ground floor so it was close to the front desk's modem.
> The pillows, towels, and linens were clean and new. The bathroom had hot and cold shower.
> The air-conditioning was surprisingly good. It was a bit humid outside that day but we were shivering inside our room early in the morning!
> Accessible to a lot of tourist areas and malls.
CONS:
> Had a bit of trouble getting there at first because a lot of people I asked didn't know where it was located. (TIP: When asking around or riding a taxi, just tell them to go to Landon Street)
Overall, had a good stay here. Would definitely come back.
Low price. location close to the night life zone in mango street. Nearby there are some small shops for bread and fast food. Book it through its own website, don't through agoda, can get better price.
