Me and my friend stayed at mad monkey for 5 days which was far too long but we didn’t know when we booked that there wasn’t much to do. When we arrived we didn’t get the most friendly welcome from reception we didn’t get told about any events going on in the hostel or any trips that the hostel were offering We found the room was quite dirty and very loud on the road side. The air con made the loudest noises and half the time it was hot. The room smelt very mouldy and damp. The floors looked like they haven’t been cleaned for months especially looking under the beds. The walls were cracked and the paints hanging of the walls. No one cleaned the room in 5 days but we did get toilet roll delivery’s. We found it quite hard to chill near the pool as there wasn’t any comfy chairs and it was a greenhouse in there and soo hot we couldn’t sit there for long. It’s all enclosed and we was told on a very occasions that they couldn’t turn on the aircon. We was pretty disappointed with the food prices(the food was nice) although the pizza doughs were a bit undercooked they were so expensive to say it’s a hostel with backpackers on a budget staying there. For 2 meals it cost us £15. And we spent £3 getting a can of red bull which would cost less in England. We wanted to join in on the beer pong one night and we was told we wasn’t aloud to play if we didn’t buy a bucket of beer which was a big of a money making scheme really so we didn’t end up playing and we didn’t want to drink that night to save on money. Everyone should be able to play as some people don’t drink alcohol. We enjoyed to music quiz we found that was a good laugh. The music was very good in the bar and the dj was great. We also found out you couldn’t buy bottled water which was disappointing so we went to the shop to get bottles. They only have one water dispenser in the full building which is very inconvenient and should have one on every floor. we thought the monkey punch was great and did get you drunk with the free shots. Our only recommendation is that you do this promotion later as 7-8 is still quite early if you don’t go out till 12. Overall wasn’t the best and wouldn’t recommend for backpackers on a budget.…

Disappointing stays at Mad Monkey during our stay here in Cebu. Despite an amazing stay at their MM Nacpan Beach, huge difference. Both stays in private rooms. The first visit, the room (standard) hadn’t been cleaned with several bugs and a bottle of lube behind the bed. The private rooms are also on the roadside so you will not sleep. Our second visit, the room (superior) was dirtier than the first and full of bugs and cockroaches in the bathroom, which smelt heavily of sewerage. The room is also right below the bar with loud music pumping through the rooms until the early hours. I understand it’s a hostel but the base vibrates down several floors.

Last apr 2022 we had the same experience with MM Cebu, we booked ahead of time and they handed us our key, when we opened it, another group was already inside so we are shocked and apologized. Fast forward to dec 2022 i decided to give them another chance, I initially booked a shared room so I decided to pay extra and upgrade it to PRIVATE room for 4pax since we are 4 guests, when we opened the room it was already occupied and they xfered us to another room where they are still remaining stuffs of i dont know who. At around 10pm someone is opening our door and we are scared to death and when we asked the front desk staffs that’s when they explained that its one of their “staffs” since they are stay in. NO APOLOGIES FOR ALL THE INCONVENIENCE FROM THE TWO INCIDENTS HAPPENED IN APRIL AND DEC. …

It was a lovely hostel. All the staff are so friendly especially Angel. She was brilliant and made me feel so welcome, she was mixing with all the guests getting to know everyone. There’s a great atmosphere around the hostel and is good for socialising.

The hostel was nice and social Hostel. The staff were very friendly and nice (Pie, Maria, Christian) etc. The room was nice but our bathroom was smelling a bit bad. Music quiz was awesome! Food was also pretty good👌

WHAT A PLACE!!! Honestly, I’ve never felt more welcomed into a hostel! We had the BEST TIME staying here. It’s a party hostel so expect shots and lots of laughs! The hosts and staff go above and beyond to ensure you have a good time! We are headed back here for our last two nights before we leave the Philippines because we loved it so much! Just to add; The place is so clean! The drinks are cheap! The food is amazing! And cheap too! The DJ every night plays all the bangers! 10/10

We’ve been to loads of hostels on our trip but this was a let down. Saw bugs on the bedside tables which were against the bed and pillows. Sprayed these with bug spray and sorted the issue so didn’t raise it at the time. Then I’m the morning just before leaving saw there were loads all over the floor! Paid for a “superior” double after spending lots of times in dorms. The music from the roof bar stayed on till 3am and was so loud in our room. We understand it’s classed as a “party hostel” but we had left the bar at 11 and there wasn’t even many people up there-there should still be sound proofing in the rooms.

Unfortunately, bed bugs do sometimes travel in with customers that have stayed at less reputable establishments. Luckily, once reported, we have a proven process in place to treat and eradicate them. We would have found you a new bed immediately if we’d known about this problem during your stay. Now that we have this information, the room in question will be been treated and the bugs will be no more. I will now report this to the country operations director who will organise the treatment for your room, and ensure the room stays closed until it's given the all-clear. I just wanted you to know and let future guests know that we do have a process that works to resolve this issue and it is in the process of being done as I am writing, and will probably be completed by the time you read this review. The WORST hostel I’ve ever visited. - We arrived after travelling for two days to no running water. - Rooms smelt of wee. - Ants / insects all over the floor. - Very dirty bath mat - Soaking wet dripping wall (everything was damp). - Rats in the restaurant / bar area.
