if you'll be sightseeing most of your stay in cebu, on a budget and don't mind small windows then this is the hotel for you. the rates are pretty reasonable, the room is relatively clean although i sighted a cockroach ONCE in the bathroom. the first night, we didn't have hot water for bathing. the guy at the reception said the hotel uses solar power to heat the water. since it was raining a few days before our stay the water wasn't heated. not sure if it was true or not but we got hot water the morning after. toiletries were provided but no sleepers. the room was clean, no questionable stains on the bed sheets nor odd smell, the bed was suitable to sleep in; not rock hard. the hotel is located on a busy street so transportation will not be problem. although i don't recommend walking around the area late at night. the free breakfast is good, you have a choice of typical filipino breakfast served with egg and your choice of juice or coffee. we stayed on the second floor so the free wifi connection was fast. you just have to ask for the password from the front desk.

I have been there for one day and it was enough. I didn't like it at all. The rooms looked a old fashioned but it could be ok if you are travelling by yourself. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast informed us is included but only Pilipino breakfast was for free. If you wanted anything else they charged you.

My wife and I like to stay in Mactan Island in the 5 star hotels but on this trip to Cebu I had the full compliment of my Philippino family. Yep kids, mother in law, sister in laws the lot, 8 of us. So I had to settle for something affordable. Checking trip advisor helped with the many options available but we asked our local taxi driver for his idea. He suggested the Golden Valley hotel which I had seen on TA but had few reviews.
So glad we did, it was ridiculously cheap and the quality of services and building was surpassed by the price. We arrived at 6.30 am and we were greeted professionally and warmly. Check in was simple and quick. I chose to check the rooms first and was satisfied with what I saw. No flatscreen TV but thats okay, we're here to shop, not watch Telly. The rooms were a decent size, nothing fancy but clean. A few chipped tiles in the bathroom but hey for 30 bucks what do expect.
The area around the hotel is not attractive, typical Philippine landscape, tin roofs and millions of telephone wires. Close to shops and other amenities, so no problems there. Easy transport options. Breakfast was a huge surprise, it was the first budget hotel breakfast I enjoyed in the Philippines in 7 years, I had a double serving. The food staff were well dressed and attentive.
There were a few foreigners here in the short time I was in the lobby, quite surprising there weren't more reviews. Oh Internet is free and worked well in the room and the lobby. I am in the room at this moment as I right the review. For those who have complained, seriously go to the Raddison Blu if you want 5 star. For me 9/10 hard to find fault.

PROS AND CONS (maybe

-We booked and paid thru Agoda and never once mentioned on their advertisement that there will be a 500 pesos deposit upon checking in. They didn't explained what the deposit is for though.

-Spotty wif.

-bed sheets and blankets have smell.

-you gotta be careful when you walk thru the room after a bath because they don't have any mat inside the cr and i was so scared i'll slip.

-thin walls

-Free breakfast, but there's not a lot of choices to choose from.

-Small room.

-They got like a small bar inside the room (more like a sari sari store but overpriced) and so we thought that the bottled mineral water and the 2 sachets of instant coffee are compliments of the hotel... but were wrong, as i check the prices of the said items on the bar, mineral water is included. I didn't see the price of the instant coffee so i thought that must be it, thats the complimentary drinks of the hotel... wrong again. as we were about to check out they were asking us for the payment of the two sachets of instant coffee, so i told them i thought those were compliments of the hotel and they told us there's no complimentary and actually its included on the pricelist..and guess what those instant coffee sachets are 40 pesos each!!! unbelievable. They said they'll just deduct that from our deposit.

Don't get fooled guys.

-and the picture posted from agoda and on their website and here on tripadvisor of what their hotel looked like its a new condotel with nice neighborhood but wait there's more... its not, its beside the University of San Carlos Law School and so far from the picture :(

I'm just really disappointed

In March 2011. I found Golden Valley Hotel on the internet
I checked the photos of each room and the prices of the rooms
Their site on the internet was very easy to see each room and the style and design of the rooms
I stayed there for 5 days in April, 2011. The staff was very nice and polite. The rooms were very clean and looked excellent. The hotel is in walking distance to Joliee"s and drug store. I walked over to Jolibbe's during the night and the people in Cebu was very nice to me
In fact I had to extend my stay and Golden Valley Hotel worked it out so I could stay the extra 6 days more.
The Employee's were very nice toward me I had no problems at all I am going to stay there again in April 2013. Thank-you Golden Vallet Hotel. Wifi worked excellent on my computer
and it was free.

I went to this hotel only for lunch, but was examining this place as a potential venue for our wedding reception. During the lunch and subsequent tour of the reception areas, I was convinced this wasn't the place to stay or have a reception, I would not recomend it for lunch or even a potty break if you're walking on the street.

First off on entering the hotel restraunt, we we the only ones there. That should have been a sign. Well, my wife got fish and I got some meat dish. My meal was tasteless, and my wife got food poisoning about 30 minutes after finishing the meal. The restroom at the back of the restraunt had roaches. Dead, but the restroom was adjacent the kitchen. God only knows.

A few other things that bugged me. I asked for a mix drink, and was told they didnt have the particular liquor. I then asked for another, and was told the same. So compromised on a glass of wine, which they have listed by the glass. I was told after the waiter went to the back that the wine could only be sold by the bottle. I finally decided to just eat thirsty. But becasue the food was so tasteless I didnt force myself to eat it so saving my thirst, however drinking that tasteless food down with a margarita or white wine would have been nice.

So we went on the tour of the reception, although by then i had already decided that we would have to cater out if allowed, nevertheless went on the tour since we had been driven by taxi there. And let me tell you, there was alot to be desifre here as well. Just seems like the entire hotel staff and managment is lazy and dont care for customer service nor pride of their business. The person giving the tour gave conflicting prices and occupancy compared to the front desk person, who then suggested we call back for another person to give specifics. By then I was only asking questions for entertainment to see how bad they really were.

The surrounding area of this hotel is horrible and dirty overcrowded. I saw a rat the size of a cat in the middle of the day, about 20 ft from the hotel. This place has no saving qualities. I am glad I decided not to stay here as I had originally planned.

This place doesnt deserve a star and should not even have a listing.

At first I was a little wary - they wanted a money transfer payment in full - and I needed to be provided with some numbers to do the transfer. After many emails they never responded. A day before the trip I called them - they told me I was not reserved for the days I planned, but they could still provide me with a room but one step up for what I requested. I was a little ticked off - and not being able to get airport transfer because we were arriving late.

Anyways- I printed out the confirmation which had the correct dates and showed them upon arrival. They were very friendly and accommodating and were able to provide me with the room I had originally requested.
We were only staying in Cebu for one night, catching the morning ferry.

We chose this hotel because of decent reviews and its closeness to the ferry port.

We were more than satisfy, the room filled our needs - a bed, a shower, shampoo/soap, towels and the breakfast was great. With such a cheap price I was expecting the free breakfast to be toast and a banana but we could order off the menu.

Great, would recommend this place to a friend.

I am not sure of how conveniently located it is to cebu attractions - but for a quick stop over - great
