Cebu Guesthouse is located in the popular Mango Avenue, within walking distance of the City Circle, the vibrant area dubbed 'Heart of the City' being very popular for malls, restaurants and cheep CD's, and the central city shopping and I.T park of Ayala. We are also on a main Jeepney route to all the major centres and short ride to the caf?? area of Capitol. Our local staff can assist you in the local knowledge of catching these illusive creatures. We offer large rooms from 690, either double or shared at a very affordable rate. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space for relaxing, or mingling with fellow guests. Kitchen for cooking, with fridge and microwave, all utensils and dining area, you will have everything you need to cook or information as to where are the best places to eat and enjoy, all housed in this period style Spanish ancestral building. Cebu is a great starting point for your island adventure. Our guesthouse is only minutes from the Supercat ferry going to the diving mecca of Bohol and local airport heading to the world class island of Boracay: listed in the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world.

We are travelling almost one year and this place was the worst one, where we ever have stayed.
The pictures on their website look quite good, but it is not true. We were sleeping near kitchen in hole with one small window, all was wet, stinky and dirty.
There is no toilet paper and no towels. In the evening you could not sleep well, becouse people are sometimes very loud in bar, same in the morning.. toilet was terrible, dirty, with broken shower.
Yes, the price is good, but if I know, that near jasmine street, you can have much more for almost same money - try tourist inn!!! they have big room for 600PHP, with window and own bathroom!
Staff is trying to be nice and helpfull, except a reception guy. Very unfair, unproffesional and he was lying to us!
One example:
We need to go to airport at 3 in the mornig and as we read a lot of about taxi drivers in phillipines and also the reception guy told us, that is it a big problem, we ask the him for a favour, if he can arrange a reliable taxi driver for us. He said us, he will try to. But he did not. When we arrived in evening and ask him, if he got the driver, he just call someone, and told us, sorry, I dont have a driver. I tried 4 numbers during the day, but I dont have anyone.. Actualy, I dont believe him a single word, what he was saying. He just said, you have to catch the driver by yourself and try to make him the taximetr on :-) and that was it, do it by yourself, and this was end of our conversation.. In the late evening we ask girl, which have duty on reception, is it really such a big problem to catch a driver in night? no, it is not, there is a lot of taxi drivers, dont be afraid!!!!! So, I still dont understand, why the guy lie to us and tried to make us afraid of the journey! Becouse when you are travelling, sometimes the only place, you can trust, is the place, where you are staying in.. This is not this case!!!!!
Dont go there!!!!

I'm really sorry to write this reference 'cos the staff has been really kind and nice with us. we booked this hotel through booking.com and the references we read there were quite good.
the location is quite ok but the rest... the room is without bathroom (20 USD per night) but thats not a problem, the problem is that it's really small, old, dirty and stinky. there is no privacy 'cos the wall is just a piece of compensated wood and the "window" is right inside the kitchen, this means that we were woken up at 5 a.m. by people who were talking loudly... we r travellers on budget, we r backpackers and this wouldn't be a problem as well... what i find totally UNACCEPTABLE is that i woke up two times with cockroaches on my pillow, huge ones... i killed them and tried to keep on sleeping...a few minutes later i was woken up again by a lot of noises coming from the down side of the bed... i switched the light on and saw 2 big rats running away below the main door... at that point i couldn't fall asleep anymore cos every single noise made me think about them...i wanted to leave the hotel but it was 3.30 am. the following day, early in the morning I complained with the staff who didnt seem very surprised by this event and kindly they didn't make me pay that awful night. as i said, the staff was very nice but the hotel needs to be reviewed a little bit. it's unacceptable that a trustable site as booking.com doesn't select very well his guests. sorry but other travelers must know. born2travel.it

First the good things, the staff is very friendly and nice and the location is actually good, not far from Robinson Mall, Mango Square with some discos, and some nice restaurants.

Now: The rooms are an absolute catastrophe. I booked the "Penthouse" as i thought it looked nice enough on the website, forget about the website pictures, the rooms do not even look similar when you get there.

The carpet and as well as the Sofa has been so dirty that you did not dare to sit on it or walk on it with bare feet. The bathroom was big, water was hot, that was ok.

Air condition (from the last century) was loud and inefficient. Noise from the Street is loud as no real windows, and bad doors and Walls.

Bed did almost break when i laid on it, no towels or any toilet paper.

Wifi did work, but too slow to be of any use.

On the ceiling have been water spots so I do not want to imagine what happens during heavy rain.

Checked out after the first day, did not get offered any refund for the room rate that i paid in advance, did not bother to argue.

Do yourself a favor and stay - away.

See my pictures - real pictures.

The guest house kind of old but it's reasonable since it is a ancestral house. The renovation makes me feel uneasy since there are some workers who will pass you by while I'm working with my laptop. The staff are great, they are fun and easy to talk with. The room where I stay is kind of noisy because it's nearby the renovation area, nevertheless it was fine since they stop working during night time.

The place is nearby malls and resto bars, it's a walking distance

The room was ok for two people. Shared bathroom/cr. Taxis can be grabbed just outside the guesthouse. Safe and secure place. Staff accommodating. A bit noisy since we're near the kitchen but otherwise OK.

Despite all the negative reviews of this place, I had a positive experience on my single night stay. We arrived in the early morning flying from Singapore and struggled to find availability within our relatively tight budget around Fuente Osmena / Mango Avenue. The staff were helpful let us check into the room early, did us a reduced rate for the 3 bedroom room with air cond. The manager was friendly when I chatted to him and helped us to ordered a taxi to the bus station the following morning. Best of all - when I put my clothes into be laundered I left a 20 Ringgit note in my shorts which was returned to me - quite surprising as I would otherwise not have noticed and I'm sure it would have had reasonable value to whoever was doing the laundry. As far as I can tell it is a decent budget option in Cebu City proper (of which there are not many).

For a few nights stay this is a nice place, rooms are okay, bathroon inside the room and wifi which works pretty good. Luggage room so I could leave my stuff there and went for overnight trips around the island with the only things I needed for a few nights.
Cebu city is nothing to stay for though.

Cebu Guesthouse has simple, straightforward amenities:
1. Clean room with adequate ventilation - We chose a room with fan only. Even without airconditioning, we had good, comfortable sleep all the time.
2. Clean, modest bathrooms - The common toilet and bath had no fancy frills like a tub, but definitely provides what you need after a long walk in the city. There's hot water too. Cleaners maintain the bathrooms and living areas every morning.
3. Friendly staff - They provide good directions and options whenever you need them - like the nearest grocery store or what tours are available (we didn't avail of the tours though due to time constraints). We had minimal interaction with them since the visit was hassle-free.
4. Central location - The location is superb if you prefer to walk around the city instead of hiring your own van, or taking cabs. There's plenty of eating places nearby, both affordable and expensive. It's a 15-minute ride (or walk) to Osmena Circle where all the action is (going to Sto. Nino, Crown Regency, etc.), and almost a similar distance to the Ayala mall.
5. Free Wifi!

What we liked best: The location and the no frills atmosphere
What we liked least: Dust on some parts of the room (like under the bed, not a deal-breaker though)

Stayed there last February, found it was one of the cheapest dorms and I was travelling on a budget. We stayed on the second floor with the private bathroom and I think it was the best decision because the common toilet is not that clean. Well don't expect much as you that's how much you paid for. In terms of accessibility, this is a great place as it's beside the road (especially when its Sinulog time as the parade passes by the street where Cebu Guesthouse is located. Basic necessities are present, but don't look for more like, wifi, pool, gym etc. This is for backpakers on a budget. Overall, it was a nice and peaceful stay at Cebu Guesthouse, we were never bothered by anyone, budget wise, it was great as we have saved a lot and we don't usually stay much at the hostel so it doesn't matter if the place looks like an old house. In reality, this was actually a house converted into a hostel. Thanks Cebu Guesthouse, won't think twice to comeback.:)

I had an amazing stay at Cebu Guesthouse. The staff was really friendly and helpful, rooms and bathrooms were clean and cozy, sleeping area was quiet, and they provide lockers so long as you bring your own padlock (which is an essential piece of equipment if you are backpacking). The hostel is located on Mango St. which is a pretty convenient location for catching jeepneys to the mall, or to any other part of Cebu City. Be aware if you are a male and foreign looking and step out for a midnight snack you will be harassed by "ladies of the night," and in many cases "ladyboys of the night." All part of the SE Asia experience...

Othere guests at Cebu Guesthouse were also awesome. Met some pretty amazing travelers and locals with great stories. There is a little dining area downstairs which served as a great place to chill with other travelers, have some food, and drink a few beers (these things are not provided by the hostel). There is also ample common space by the rooms so you always have contact with people coming in and out of their rooms.

Overall really loved my time here.

If you are looking for luxury or a "hotel" this is not the place for you. You are better off spending some more pesos and going elsewhere. But if you are looking for an awesome time with awesome people in the fashion of true travelers and hostel style living this is a great place to stay.

In the words of a famous American... "I will return..."
