Detailed Reviews
I dont have strong feelings about this hotel, pro or con. Would I stay here again, most likely not.
Pros:
. Typical large hotel w/ many rooms. If you like to get lost in big hotels, this is one of them.
Cons:
. The staff appears unhappy
. The location is central, but that's not necessarily good. Not convenient to get taxis, and the area isn't good.
. The breakfast food is below average. I expect more for a hotel of this size.
. The beds are too soft. Difficult to sleep.
. The rooms are below average in cleanliness, the walls are dirty.
. The rooms need repainting.
. The rooms can get noisy on the wknds, as some students sometimes book rooms to party here. Very noisy.
The staff here will warm up to you , but you have to take the initiative to smile, say hello, etc.. But it shouldn't be like that.
If you can afford to pay for one of their suites, on the top floors, they are nice, but I don't think they are worth the money. When i say "nice", I mean better than average, not spectacular.
You learn to kind of expect "less" and get surprised and happy when something is better than "average".

The hotel is a good place to stay. The room is very nice ( cool AC, hot & cold shower, clean beddings) . It is near a mall (Gaisano Mall) where you can find plenty of place to eat & buy things (souvenirs or necessities ). There is also a spa & a pool if you want to relax. BUT the food is not good at all. I hope they will try to revise their menu so that the clients will be satisfied. The wifi is so slow ( when we were at the seminar hall, we cannot connect at all)

When we arrived at this hotel at around 11:30am, we asked if our rooms were ready and if we could check in. We were politely informed to sit down at the lobby which we did and waited for what we assumed was the check in process. so we waited... and waited. When we finally went to check what the hold up was...we were told that since they were fully booked the night before, we werent allowed to check in until 3 in the afternoon. We asked the concierge why we werent informed and he replied with "i informed one of your party" but could not identify which one. Slight inconvenience for the check in surely but since it was Kadayawan, we decided to just spend the time elsewhere until we could check in.
At 3Pm, to give them credit, some of our party was able to check in to only ONE of the rooms because they required us to pay upon check in. Since half of our party was still out, we wouldve appreciated this information earlier. being dead tired as we were, we just took the room that was available so we could rest.
The room... was horrible. There was hair on our pillows and the bathroom... good god...it was like someone was SHEDDING in there. We called the concierge to request for them to clean up but was told that "cleaning isnt until the next morning". We had no choice but to leave but thankfully they cleaned the room up a bit when we got back. Bathroom still had hair everywhere.
I should also mention that when we ordered a frappucino from their coffee shop we found black bits and pieces in the drink. "blender rubber" we were told. looked like mold to me.
all in all, i wouldnt recommend this hotel to ANYONE... not even someone I hate.
NEVER

Before I booked 2 rooms at Ritz, I read the mostly favorable reviews of trip advisor. Then the realities of our stay:
1. Room 203 was smelly esp the bathroom
2. They handed only one room key thus one has to knock doir to come in late because key needs to be inserted to electrify the room
3. It takes 3 summons to get a room service assistance
4. The phone rings more than 3x before reception answers
5. The male receptionist while courteous sells his smile for P1million per smile. And he doesn't know the importance of eye contact. In these regards, the security guards beats him.
6. The night security guard was in deep sleep early morning when we returned. Twice.I joked my brother , " look , securitulog".
7. Breakfast was so-so.
This is my first time to write a very negative review for a hotel but I hope ritz takes my review constructively.

I cant say that the hotel is bad. its not. its a nice hotel. The rooms are clean, comfortable. The grounds are spacious. The food is good and the staff are really friendly. what saddened me, was really that professionalism or lack of by the Manager.
Fair is fair, and what I understand from the staff, he is new. but I did not appreciate his candor, or his rudeness towards not just me, but also the staff, who I thought are doing a great job.
Tips : ask for a back facing room, there tends to be a lot of noise at night from people walking through the hotel and shouting. DO try the restaurant, the food is actually very good, I am based in Hong Kong, and I can really compare the food...
Advice : unlike some of the other comments, the shopping malls are actually within walking distance, I found myself laughing when I took the taxi to the mall it was about a 2 minute drive.
Hints : if you have a problem, ask the front desk staff, they are really helpful, dont rely too much on the general manager, in my experience, he has a lot to learn and would do well to get re trained.
I would say that Ive stayed at the M. Polo,, while it is a renowned hotel, Ritz is better. its somehow more homely.
A special thanks to the dining staff Mrs Mayen and her staff, for making sure my food was served well.
I look forward to coming back and seeing you guys again.
but, I have to say, with the manager like that, I cannot give a great rating.

We arrived to a room that was about 90 degrees Fahrenheit. We were told that the air conditioning is controlled by a remote that they keep. I gave them five minutes to find the remote and give it to me or we're outta here. They complied. There is only enough light in the room during daylight hours. We needed to ask for towels & toilet paper. The shower was a walk-in with no grab bars leading to a hard slip and fall. It leaked out into the toilet area. No stationary or pen. When we asked that a taxi be called, it often took 15 minutes or more (possibly due to the neighborhood the hotel is in.)The internet price was higher than the very nice hotel we transferred to. When we were married there 12.5 years ago before the hotel was built, it was a beautiful restaurant and an excellent experience. unfortunately all that has changed. Suffice it to say this is a horrible place to stay.
Other than that, it was great!

I booked this hotel many months before my trip mainly by using the remarks left there. Though the staff is friendly and the rooms and grounds are kept clean, there are a few things that are lacking for someone who doesn't travel much. The Ritz is in need of some minor but important maintenance. The first room we had we would have liked to stay but the sliding patio door would not stay locked and their "maintenance engineer" had no clue as to what needed to be done. The next day the A/C went out so we moved. Our new room is smaller with a remote that has been broken in half and taped back together, the pop up in the sink doesn't work, the bathroom door squeaks and will wake a heavy sleeper.
The restaurant is good as is the staff. The pool and pool bar are nice and are kept up but do not bring friends and family to the pool or you will be charged 150 Php per person and you will find out only after you there with them. It is not posted anywhere!
Don't expect to sleep in Sunday morning. Loud music in front of the hotel for some kind of exerciser thing starting at 6:30.
I am not sure if I will stay here again on my return trip.

Looking for the best hotel with function hall was my priority last summer of 2012. As far as I can remember, I've spent almost a month searching for the best place where I can book my daughter's 18th birthday. Of all the hotels I've visited, The Ritz Hotel impressed me a lot. The people there were so good to me, I'm well-entertained not only by the staff at the front desk, but as well as by the manager. They handed me a brochure regarding the debut package and gave me an idea regarding the function room where the event will be held. As far as I can remember, there were lots of offer in the debut package and one of these offers includes the accommodation of the room. I was given the chance to see the venue as the event coordinator escorted me. I was impressed because the place is just right for the party and spacious enough for the number of persons I am expecting to come. What's more is the room where we stayed after the party. It is elegantly arranged , cold and the bed is large, comfortable, with dim lights hidden at the back of the headboard, with a flat screen tv on the wall, very clean comfort room, with complimentary bathroom giveaways placed near the washbasin. Since me and my husband were so exhausted after the night's affair (which was enjoyed a lot by our family & guests), we flung ourselves on the bed and slept without any delay. So much more to tell but all I can say is that I regret nothing in choosing this kind of hotel for my one and only daughter's special day. It's so memorable and priceless!

Good hotel with GREAT rooms.
The room we had, 504, was very large with a lovely spa tub and very large bathroom/shower/spa area.
There is a couch that is a nice touch in this large room.
The room we had was clean, modern, and really as nice as any room I have stayed in during my trips in the Philippines. I rate it equal to the rooms at some of the best hotels in Manila.
If they are having a meeting on the 5th floor, avoid rooms 501-504 as you will hear chairs moving all day and into the early evening.
The pool was nice and large, with a separate kid's pool.
Nothing fancy at the pool, but nice enough.
Wireless internet free in the lobby. Not sure about cable in the rooms as I had wireless only.
Not sure about the restaurant, but the included breakfast was 'just okay'. Typical rice with meats. Limited choice.

About 8 - 9 km (5 - 6miles). If You're asking the drive time, depending on when you arrive at the airport. If during the day expect around 40-50 minutes; Before sunrise (close to 6am) and after 8pm, 20-25 minutes. Davao is very safe so even at 9pm to midnight especially on weekends, people are still out walking on the streets so although public transportation is decreased, you may still encounter traffic. Taxis are also very safe, will cost you around 150-200 pesos. Hope it helps.
I forgot to mention that the1,750 pesos is for one night only.
