Experience the allure of Philippine country life at Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort. A self-contained working coconut plantation, It was founded in the 1880s by Don Placido Escudero and his wife Dona Claudia Marasigan. Originally planted to sugarcane, the crop was converted to coconut by their son Don Arsenio Escudero in the early 1900s. A pioneering agro-industrialist, he built the country’s first working hydroelectric plant to supply his dessicated coconut factory and Villa Escudero, where he and his wife Dona Rosario Adap built in 1929. Their children opened the estate to the public in 1981. From its humble beginnings, the resort has become a prime tourist destination for locals, overseas Filipinos and a wide array of foreign visitors to the country. It has a worldwide reputation as a showcase for the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage, offering a beguiling glimpse of its history, cuisine, dress, customs and natural beauty a mere two hours away from Manila.

We caught a glimpse of Filipino culture here at Villa Escudero. You can see different statues all across the resort symbolizing some of the Filipino heritage and customs. We walked through the museum that housed artifacts and collectibles that dates back to the 1800s to the modern era. Here you can swim, fish, and even go rafting on a bamboo. We then ate at the Waterfalls Restaurant, which served traditional Filipino dishes while soaking your feet in shallow water. It was yummy!

My wife and I were invited by our friends to spend a day at Villa Escudero. They are good friends of the owner, Mr Conrado Escudero, who was kind enough to send a resort van to Manila to pick us up.

Upon arrival at the resort, Mr Escudero greeted us warmly and invited us to have some snacks and drinks in the convention center. As we sat around a large table he told us about the history of the resort, upcoming additions to the property, and his profound determination to keep the resort eco friendly.

When we finished talking we walked around the pool area and then watched guests floating down the river on the resorts’ bamboo rafts. Then it was time for the most fantastic feature of all - a sumptuous lunch while sitting barefoot at tables in the river, just a short distance from a waterfall. It was the most amazing lunch that I have ever experienced. The wait staff kept delivering delicious local foods and fruit and we ate until we were stuffed.

We then went to the convention center where we were treated to traditional Filipino music, songs, and dance, put on by the same staff that had served us lunch. The show featured the different influences on Philippine culture, and many different musical instruments and fabulous costumes.

We ended our day with a tour of the owners’ museum, which can only be described as a marvel. The collection of art work, furniture, and keepsakes from around the world will have your head spinning.

There are numerous other outdoor activities, but unfortunately heavy rain kept us from taking advantage of them. I hope to return someday to spend an extended stay at the resort. I highly recommend this incredible venue to anyone who is looking for something that will excite you and provide you with memories to last a lifetime.

The staff are very friendly & polite. We were greeted by their home made refreshing gulaman at the lobby. Checking in was smooth and easy.

The room by the river was clean and fresh. Very relaxing, I want to stay in the hammock the whole day. Toilet was squeaky clean.

There's not much variety of food (dinner & breakfast) but it's delicious and freshly served. I had a few rounds of their brewed coffee and lugaw for breakfast.

And who else could be the most befitting host but Don Conrado Escudero himself, he approached our dinner table and introduce himself. He was very friendly and has lots of stories about the history of Villa Escudero, the whole night was not enough. He told us one secret of the lighting feature of the grand pavilion, ssshh. He even gave us special access to one of the restricted area of the farm for us to see the marvelous lighting at night.

There are lots of areas to visit during daytime. The pools were properly managed, we almost don't want to leave the hot jacuzzi.

Try the river rafting for some fun. Visit the church and the museum, very worth it!

And....one thing that really urged me to write this review is how they value their visitors. I left my cap in our villa, my dad left his cap and shirt by the pool. And guess what? They had it couriered to our home free of charge.

Definitely we will come back. Hope we'll have more time chatting with Don Ado, see you again Sir. Kudos to the whole staff!

I took 18 family members on an overnight stay last weekend. There were also 10 day trippers. I spent more than P87K. 2 of the day trippers returned for Mass the following morning to witness our blessing from the priest as it was our 25th wedding anniversary. They were denied entry until they paid the entry fee as day trippers. They left immediately after Mass as did all of us overnighters as we had to be present at the baptism of my grandnephew in another venue. To deny these 2 entry so they can hear Mass is truly unChristian. We went to the manager to appeal but he didn't budge. I am truly horrified that one has to pay to meet God in Mass at Villa Escudero. I've never heard of such a practice.

Though that left a distaste in the mouth we all enjoyed our stay.

We booked an overnight stay with my family who I wanted to experience Philippine culture. The package includes free lunch buffet (under a waterfall), free dinner buffet (at the pavilion), free breakfast buffet (at the pavilion). Also include are: Welcome Drinks, Guided walking tour at the museum, Carabao cart rides, Swimming Pool and Jacuzzi access, Bamboo rafting, and an excellent Cultural show (2pm to 3:15pm).

Check in is at 1pm, but they ask that you arrive at 11:30am before you check in so you can have enough time to get to the lunch area via Carabao cart and eat under the waterfall. Note that only chips and water can be brought into the resort. They do inspect your bags for other drinks and alcohol (which you can buy at the pool bar).

After checking in, you then head to the cultural show at 2pm which is walking distance from the rooms. The show includes different native dances from the north and south islands. It even includes a very realistic 'cock fight' where bets (tips) are taken from the audience. My daughter felt bad about the roosters, but they assured her that no rooster was harmed during the show.

We stayed in the Riverside Fan Room which sleeps a maximum of 12 people. I highly recommend this room because you are right on the river which an open view from the ground floor. The fan kept us cold at night so not need for AC. It even kept any mosquitos away (if there were any). There is one queen bedroom on the first floor, but the rest are mattresses that you can lay on the floor anywhere you want including in the loft where 2 smaller rooms exist.

I also recommend the bamboo rafting (see pic). Heavier than a canoe but navigates the same way on the river. When we were there, there was a school field trip which lined up for the rafts, but since we were overnight guests, we were able to skip the line.

Food during breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all Philippine inspired and very tasty. Make sure you try everything, so you don't miss out.

Overall, a great experience for anyone wanting to taste Philippine cuisine and experience Philippine culture firsthand.

We went to Villa Escudero, Tiaong, Quezon because the website was forwarded to me prior to my Philippines trip. Like everywhere you go in the Philippines there was traffic😩😁 but nothing that could take away from the experience. There was a museum with memorabilia from around the area. Lots of religious items as the museum appears to be in an old church. There was a Carabao (water buffalo) cart ride to the buffet lunch at Labassin Falls which is the first hydro electric dam in the Philippines. Buffet lunch was at tables located in the water from the falls so your feet are in the water while you eat (check out the website). Very pleasant and unique experience . Food was fantastic consisting of Filipino delicacies. I really enjoyed it. This was a really good day trip.

Lovely location and a first visit since 2000. Staff brilliant, food great and the river restaurant is sublime!

The Cultural show is great, but the cockfighting sequence needs some warning. I have been coming to the Philippines for 35 x years, and yes, I have seen cockfighting. Yes, it may be somewhat staged, but the poultry don’t know this, and for a family show it is distasteful, particularly with the the portrayal of lightness of the act.

Yes, it is culture, and that can’t be denied, but it is not a culture that sits comfortably and the shocked responses from the audience shows this.

By all means, show it if you have to, but warn the audience that it may not be suitable.

The rest of the show was brilliant, and the venue first class. Philippine attitude to animal welfare has changed beyond recognition in the last 35 x years, but this display takes it back the dark ages.

Please consider if it is appropriate still in 2024.

I'd love to thank Villa Escudero for making my Parent's 27th Anniversary memorable. They had an amazing time staying with you. I booked overnight accommodation this May 21 & 22 for them. I just wanted to commend Ms. Alexia from the Reception who provided an outstanding service. She made sure my Parents will have comfortable and hassle free stay at your villa. My Parents keep on telling me she always check them and respond immediately to whatever favor they have. I am reviewing this because I wish to management know she deserves to be promoted or give her incentives. She is an asset of your villa. Many will love escudero more if you will have more people like her. To add, food is amazing, place is very clean and most of all is the people working are amazing. These photos can't lie.

There are cottages that would qualify as a glamping spot. No aircon, plain breeze. Villas with aircon are quite limited. Buffet food is half miss, half hit. Lunch at the waterfall gets crowded but great a one-time experience. Rowing on the river raft is a must try. It’s a team building thing.

Best time to use the pools are early morning and late afternoon.

Sorry for the late reply as was overseas trip. No they have a standard rate for the rooms but if you coming in a tour group I am sure they can offer you a discount for more rooms being booked. Just send an enquiry to the front desk to negotiate for a better rate before you book your stay there.

Do they have the cultural show everyday? Also is the museum open everyday?

Hi Mickeyma, The cultural shows are on only certain days. I think they are closed for Sundays due to church services. But the outdoor museum is open all the time so if you are a history buff you won't miss out on much. But to keep it safe bet going there on a weekday will be the safest bet.

Yes they do have day tour option and I believe you can walk in even without reservation (which we did 5 years ago) but now we usually do it online. For day tour you can enjoy the buffet and can also swim at their designated pools.

The weather is quite cold every night and will get colder until February. I believe aircon will not be an issue. Electric fan will do the trick if in case.
