An erupting volcano changed our travel plans, and we ended up staying three nights, not one, in this aging hotel not far from the airport. The hotel is on a side street in a working class neighborhood near the EDSA LRT station. On request, we got moved to a room with a window for nights 2 & 3. The hardware of the shower in our room was literally falling off the wall (but was quickly repaired when I complained). The included breakfast is truly horrid. The smiling front desk staff couldn't provide even a traveller's map of Manila. We could hardly wait to move on.

If you're like us and are needing a place to stay near NAIA, this hotel will work just fine! We reserved online so it was 200p for their shuttle from Terminal 3. Our plane landed late (delayed) so I just called them from Terminal 3 and the driver came quickly (15 mins). The check in process was smooth and the rooms are a bit on the small side, but not bad for a night or two. We had a flight early the next morning, so we just ate dinner up near the rooftop pool at the restaurant. It did have nice views from there, so it's a strong selling point of this hotel in my opinion. The next morning we had free (included) breakfast which they arranged for us very early, which was greatly appreciated by us. The shuttle was also available to use again, so we took advantage at got back to the airport on time for our flight, also from Terminal 3. Although our stay was short, it was rather sweet and we would stay there again if ever needing a place near NAIA. I'd recommend.

Stayed there for couple of nights. I hardly slept due to constant noise. My room is an interconnecting room and the guests next door keep trying to open the door. You can hear every thing, absolutely no sound proof. Bed is well hard. The shower was broken and the water constantly flowing causing the bathroom floods. I wont be staying in this hotel again.

I've stayed at Shogun three times now, once in 2013 and twice in 2014. The price was in my opinion awesome. The room my fiancee and I stayed in was under $40 per night. With that was a free buffet breakfast that was the best I ever had in the Philipppines. It had many choices. Started with white rice, then egg, pancit, hotdog or chicken adobo, smoked fish, a couple other things I can't remember now, toast, fruits and veggies, and water or another drink. Two thumbs up!!! You can order room service also and the food is very good. There is a pool/restaurant/bar on the roof which is very nice also! You are a few minutes walking distance from either the MRT or LRT. There is a small mall right next door which is nice as you can buy some groceries or get take out food or even in the past I exchanged money. (Not sure if the money exchanger was there this time as I didn't need it so didn't look for it) Free airport pick up was included. I believe it was P200 to use a vehicle from Shogun to the airport. Taxi ride was under P100 to go to MOA. I've heard some people say that it seems like a shady area, but I've never had any problem walking on the streets around Shogun. Been in that area many times since 2004. If I can get back to the Philippines again, I will stay at Shogun again and I would recommend it to anyone.

We needed an affordable place to stay for a night that is close to airport and with a swimming pool and we opted to stay in Shogun Suite Hotel. With just 2,000php for a room for 2, we got the best offer!

Location:
It is walking distance, around 20meters away to EDSA, main highway with bus and cabs, the train stations (MRT and LRT), beside Metropoint Mall and nearby food chains (Jolibee/Chowking) and side street vendors.

Staff:
All staff were friendly and accommodating. I want to commend Annie of 2nd floor buffet breakfast area for anticipating the needs of all guests. She walks around and checks what you need before you can ask for it. Great Customer Service Skills!
I also requested to be situated near the swimming pool and yeah we got what we wanted. We dont need to ride the elevators and we can walk 1 level down using the exit stairs.

Room:
Unique room. We got a room with a tropical type style and I like it. It has hot and cold shower, mini bar ref, TV, and clean sheets and towels. The bed is a little bit hard though.

Buffet Breakfast:
With a low room rate, dont expect that you will have luxurious breakfast. What they offered was enough, with a combination of Filipino - American dishes.

Swimming Pool:
Best to swim at night, with the skyline view of Makati. Pool towel rental cost 40php good for 1 day use only. Since we swam again the next day, we needed to pay again. Swimming pool is small, good for dipping. I got itchy upon dipping but my partner didnt. I am not sure if the water gets clean regularly.

Resto Bar/Restaurant:
I like that we dont have to go out of the hotel to eat. They have their own resto at the 8th with billiards and film showing. They offer different dishes at an affordable rate. The food is nearly the same with Gerry's grill.

Airport Transfer:
They offer Airport Transfers at affordable rate instead of hailing a cab which might rip you off. With just 300php for drop off. We are locals, but we opted for this service. The drivers know the shortcuts to airports and you can make it on time.

The 'Shogun Suite Hotel' in Pasay City,Metro Manila is situated in Zamora Street which is a side street situtated around 50 metres away from the busy EDSA highway with its two light rail stations(Taft Avenue & EDSA stations) from where frequent train services operate to most parts of Manila. Both these stations are connected to the Metro Point shopping mall which has an entrance situated adjacent to the 'Shogun Suite Hotel' in Zamora Street and this is a medium sized shopping centre containing many eating establishments and there are around three or four floors comprising of all kinds of shops ranging from chemists to mobile telephone repairers and clothing outlets, and one of the entrances to this mall is located virtually next to the hotel's main entrance in Zamora Street.
In the streets outside the mall everywhere is extremely busy with a multitude of shops, banks and other businesses to be found, with great numbers of pedestrians walking here there and everywhere!

My wife and myself decided beforehand to stay at the 'Shogun Suite Hotel' for three nights during mid January due to its proximity to the airport & bus stations and to allow us the opportunity to explore Manila prior to travelling north to Baguio City to visit my wife's family a few days later on an eight hour bus journey starting from the 'Victory Liner' bus station on the EDSA highway which is around half a mile away from the hotel.

We booked our room on a bed & breakfast basis through the hotel's own website(paying 5700 PESOS/£80 GBP for 3 nights) which was simplicity itself, and we considered that their rates were most reasonable considering all the facilities which were provided together with the hotel's most convenient and central location, and we availed ourselves of the hotel's airport pick up service which was free(although a reasonable charge was made for taking returning guests back to the airport) and which turned out to be an efficient service.

We were very pleased to discover that we had made the right choice and had chosen the 'Shogun Suite Hotel' for our Manila base as our en-suite fourth floor room(No.408)was clean and most comfortable with all the facilities to be found that are generally expected of hotel rooms nowadays being provided and which were of a high standard too - even slippers were provided in our room. There was no need to get out of bed to switch the lights on and off, as there was a lighting control panel by the bedside controlling all the bedroom lighting, and a remote control television was provided as well as a fridge containing chilled soft drinks and beers priced at 50 pesos a time which was all to the good. Wi-Fi facilities were provided as well.
Two lifts provided access to the 4th floor.

A breakfast buffet was served between 6am and 10am and this was of a very good standard with plenty of choices available and which set you up well for the day's sightseeing to follow.
We chose to eat in eat the hotel in the evenings at the pool cafe/restaurant which was situated on the 8th floor of the hotel underneath the hotel's swimming pool(the water of which was quite warm when I dipped my hand in one evening)on the roof which gave splendid views all over Manila.
Our meals there were varied and tasty, and once again proved to be excellent value for money.

Every member of the staff was courteous and extremely helpful to us during our stay, and as we enjoyed our short stay so much we did in fact stay for an extra night which the hotel arranged for us quickly and efficiently..

The 'Shogun Suite Hotel' although not a four star hotel is nonetheless a jolly good budget hotel offering comfortable rooms together with good food, courteous service and high security. Should you be a budget traveller much like myself, I am certain that you will be very pleased with the high standards to be found at this exceptional and reasonably priced city centre hotel which is most certainly one of the best hotels that I've ever come across within its price bracket.

++++ Highly recommended ++++
