Detailed Reviews
February is a great time to visit the Philippines, as the weather isn't overwhelmingly hot or humid and is beautifully mild. The service at the hotel was fantastic - the location is great, a short walk away from some big malls such as SM and Podium; the rooms and the lobby are stunning, with lots of things to do in the hotel grounds including tennis and a fantastic spa.
The buffet breakfast here is second to none - so much variety and choice! The only small letdown was that there was a glass of water served which had something floating in it. As we have sensitive stomachs, we asked for bottled water instead, but the waiter refused to provide this complimentary which was a letdown for a 5-star hotel. This was the only small hiccup in an otherwise perfect stay.
Would highly recommend especially if you can book early and get a great deal.

We stayed at the Shangri-La Edsa in Manila and from day one we were treated as royalty. We LOVED our room, check-in was a breeze and we were called by our names as if everyone knew us personally. In fact, some employees actually DID remember us from our stay two months ago when my husband needed cataract surgery at the adjoining Shangri-La mall's eye clinic (also over the top excellent !) Sheila was our room attendant and she was so cheerful and such a magnificent cleaner. The amenities were wonderful and we loved having them provided daily. The room was on the 17th floor and so our view was exquisite. The beds were very comfortable and we kept falling asleep on them! We were really rested after the week was over. Though we missed home (in Antipolo, we are American missionaries with permanent residence) the Shang feels like a very real home away from home. Very quiet, and any requests were met with immediate remedies. The Heat was also scrumptious on a daily basis, such good food!

Our nth 3 week stay at EDSA Shangrila… Karen De Mesa was shy but very friendly and smiles warmly. Of course she’s polite and courteous. Everytime she visits our room to clean and replenishes needed amenities… she would triple check everything before she leaves that’s why our room is dust free, pillows fluffed and bedding’s were like ironed. Great job Karen…❤️
The Heat breakfast buffet with Ms. Angel and her team… Lesley, Leah, Grace, Russell, Kana, Dyosa, Lloyd, Carl with black rimmed glasses and Leo were OUTSTANDING!
Chefs Sam, Joan, Cecille, Anthony, George, Rico, Tricia and Maan were always there to assist and suggest most specially our Chef Louie… he makes you special…❤️ the best as always…
You can count on EDSA Shangrila in hiring and training the best people for their hotels…❤️

The “EDSA Shang” is in a good location that’s walking distance to SM Megamall, Greenfield District and not too far by car from nearby Makati, BGC & QC. However, after many years visiting, working, living and staying in the Philippines, I have to say that the EDSA Shangri La does not feel like a 5 star hotel. It feels like a cheaper version (not in price!) compared to the other Shangri La hotels in the Philippines (and globally). I understand this is one of many places still recovering from covid and lockdowns but there were several basic things just missing from our visit.
The rooms are small and run down and are missing several basic amenities which you’d find in much cheaper hotels. The mini bar is never stocked as they “don’t stock it anymore” and a call to room service involves scanning a QR code for a menu that never loads and then a very long wait. We ordered 5 beers and an ice bucket. The beers were delivered in a brown paper bag 45 mins after requested with no ice. The (tiny) ice bucket came an hour later. The room itself has power outlets that don’t work and an empty fridge that never really got cold.
The service in the lobby lounge is the poorest. The staff there just do not understand simple requests and ordering anything in the lobby is a frustrating experience full of confusion, misunderstanding and apathy. Simple things like cold beer, a pen to sign the bill, providing more than one (iPad) menu to our group of 4 would have helped even. We did have 2 excellent experiences in the Lobby from Charles and Ford who were absolutely fantastic, but otherwise it was difficult, slow and felt unfriendly. Whether ordering in Tagalog or English, the staff struggled to understand and get things right. The manager of the lobby really needs to train their staff better and create a better atmosphere.
Housekeeping was good but inconsistent. For some reason my 2 colleagues (on the same floor) got daily banana bread, fresh fruit, towel art whereas we didn’t even get a fruit bowl (we did get a lovely towel dog on our last day) but unsure why we never had any snacks in our room (especially when there’s no minibar!)
The pool is lovely and the bar and restaurant at the pool has good service and food. The lunch buffet in Heat was also fantastic. The drivers of the hotel cars were great as was the service from Angela at the front desk when we checked out.
But, given the price of the rooms, the poor service from the lobby lounge, the missing amenities and the fact they pre-authorise more on your credit card on checkin than any other hotel I’ve stayed at globally… I’m not sure we’d pay so much for the privilege to stay again.

We spent an overnight stay here. Actually, on pre-pandemic years, we used to spent an overnight stay here to relax.
The staffs are very accommodating and very kind to consider our request to have a room with bath tub.
The room is "oldie but goodie." The bed is comfortable and pillow and linen are clean.
Points I noticed:
We only have 1 toothpaste. Usually, it is 2 toothpastes.
Comfort Room across the HEAT restaurant at the Lobby does not have bidet. So if mother nature calls you, be ready for a wet wipes or bottle of water. When paying on HEAT, and you want to have points on your Circle and you are using credit card, member's name should be the same on credit card. Kinda weird because you're still paying even you are couple (husband/wife).
Consistency
On service -From front desk, housekeeping and HEAT Staff, all are accommodating
Taste of food -Breakfast has a lot of options to choose and still delicious.
Even we experienced staying on other hotels, this place will be definitely in our list.

Things didn’t start up well . Surprised to be afforded an adjoining rooms but both were PWD type accommodations. Didn’t want to offend but my toddler daughter wanted something with a bathtub . Then I later found out that the easy access foot bridge going to the Shangrila Mall was closed off. Pandemic issues. Several staff seem to be adjusting from quarantine to a mixed use type of hospitality, if you know what I mean. Even though we are on level 1 status, we are forced to book 2 rooms despite we are 3 adults and a toddler as occupants. They didn’t even include the usual desk calendar even though the Shang Fort has this amenity.
BUT , seeing Jomer their bell staff , felt like I was welcomed back home. Special mention also to the phone guest service staff who I later learned to be Jessel , who had a calm demeanour dealing with me. Also to FD boss Ronnie who made last minute adjustments to get my desired room type. And to FD manager Shine who acknowledged my email hotel review response.
Didn’t get to utilise their pool and vaunted Chi spa since we were there to literally go shopping . But the location, clean and comfortable rooms , amenities are always their main advantages. The 24 hour room service and the buffet breakfast spread at Heat showed that slowly but surely, this hotel will get back to what is known for , pre pandemic wise.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay from booking for a quarantine stay to departure from Manila. Shai from hotel reservations did a magnificent job of juggling my constant changes in schedules in order to accommodate me reservations. Jim, the night manager helped juggle changes and facilitate quarantine needs, excellent work, and Miss Tess, was very hospitable and kind at making sure my room was always well maintained, clean and amenities such as towels, soaps and shampoos were always well stocked. The overall staff was friendly, efficient and hospitable. Definitely enjoyed my stay and highly recommend this location to anyone looking to vacation in Manila.

Location:
Right at the center of the city surrounded with amenities.
Accessible to public transportation.
Housekeeping service:
7 star service, beyond expectations. Sonny and his team made my stay next to home.
I always got animal shaped towels and little notes from them. They even provided me with Nespresso machine.
Restaurant:
Pros:
Being vegan is always difficult in Philippines however the staff at HEAT delivered excellent customer care. Alvin, Alexsus, Lotis and Sonia looked after my needs every single day I was there.
Cons:
Unfortunately, Shangri-La didn’t have a good cocoa powder so I have to bring my own.
Family day is a let down, too crowded and so many commoners ( PJ and slippers were so disappointing ). I am so surprised they can get away from the dress code.
Public place:
A real 5 star hotel, presence of domestic/ housekeeping staff were everywhere. Sparking floor on their lobby.
Presence of housekeeping staff in the restaurant whilst in service. Excellent. No messy floor.
Security:
Excellent. I even asked them not to give my information to anyone.
Overall experience.
Highly recommended.
