I really liked our stay at this place. We stayed in Tower B 25th floor! It is owned by a foreigner and he rents it out at an affordable price. Imagine we got two rooms at Php 3,600. That's a bargain. It's a condotel. We can cook there, watch TV, relax and it has an amazing view of the Makati skyline. They also have a lot of big elevators. I consider having the mall on the ground floor a plus. They call it the Jazz Mall. We bought groceries and cooked just like we were at home. One downside is that the pool is not readily available. We had to pay Php 150 per pax for the first 3 persons then Php 200 for the others. We were also not able to use the pool because their business office is open until 8 pm. But the view was really amazing especially at night. We took some nice photos too. I recommend this condotel although I feel afraid looking down from the 25th floor.

I like the location cos there's a mall, restaurants, supermarket, laundromat, massage parlor, hair salon, coffee shops, almost everything you need. The one bedroom unit was good enough for me. It was clean and cool enough. The elevators was too slow. It takes a long time to get an elevator. The security of the building was not tight. Anyone can go in and out the building. There was a security guard who was very unhelpful and unfriendly.

I booked a room via Travelbook and it went well. I contacted Filnaija informing them regarding my upcoming stay only to receive a reply from them that they are fully booked on that day so if it is okay with me, they will upgrade my room to a 1 bedroom but in Shell Residences. It was fine with me so we agreed already. But to my dismay, I received a message again asking me if I want to be upgraded but in Shell Residences. I informed them that we had an agreement already and sent them the screenshot of our conversation but after that, all they did was seenzoned my messages. I found it very rude so I just cancelled my reservation. It was paid already via credit card so it was a hassle on my part going thru the process of cancellation and payment reversal. Tsk.

If I could give no stars at all for Filnaija At Shell Residences in Pasay I would. The first impression was of a filthy room with coloured bedding that would disguise the dirt had linens not been washed between occupants. There is no reason to believe the bedding would be clean as nothing else was. This is a locally run apart-hotel and the apartments are individually owned, but clearly whoever manages the place has no concept of cleanliness, or indeed the most basic necessities that foreign travellers require. How can they market to foreigners (I booked through hotels.com) when they DO NOT EVEN OFFER TOILET PAPER? There is no soap or shampoo and to say that the place is dirty just fails to do it justice. It was FILTHY! I did not dare swim in the pool for fear of contracting a potentially life-threatening disease such as Legionella from untreated water. Likewise, not wishing to take diarrhoea away with me as my souvenir from Manila, I ate and drank nothing in this property. There are sufficient restaurants, cafes and the huge Mall of Asia nearby to eat safe food at. On a positive note, the location is good for Mall of Asia, the airport and attractions. It is safe, if not rather noisy, but I would warn foreign travels that staying in a property like Filnaija Shell Residences puts them at risk of contamination and illness.

Please forgive my lecture on urban development, but it is highly relevant to this review. Developers purchase prime land in urban areas, in this case it was either a part of Manila Southern Cemetery (alas no sign or Morrissey wandering around), or some rather elegant low rise villas. So the location is good, although in the April heat a taxi ride from many locations (such as Green Belt). The best way to maximise your ROI is to build up (45 floors to be specific and our apartment was on the 45th, with reasonable views of Metro Manila and the Cemetery) and minimise the floor space of apartments (ours was smaller than our bedroom in Jakarta, despite being listed as sleeping 4). Throw in a shopping mall (with Ace Hardware, SM Hypermarket and fast food restaurants) and you are beginning to realise the returns. We didn't eat in the restaurants, but Ace Hardware and SM Hypermarket were essential in providing necessary comforts (electrical plug converters, soap, toothpaste and food, as being from Indonesia we craved spices, especially chilli). Next sell like made; being a westerner with an Indonesian wife (who everyone assumed was my Pilipino girlfriend) I was accosted by sales agents in every mall we visited (often multiple times). A part of the sale pitch are the impressive returns for investors over the loan term. In the short-term the only way to achieve these returns is to compete with hotels and offer the property on Agoda. Of course with limited maintenance these returns are only short-term and unlikely to be realised over the loan period. As the property is primarily an apartment development the service you can expect is minimal. Indeed you are not a guest, simply a mechanism to establish the returns for investors. So when we arrived early we waited 40 minutes before somebody agreed to store our baggage, despite specifically requsting this. We were on the overnight flight from Jakarta and had a 09:00 appointment at the Indonesian Embassy. Then when checking out at 12.00 nobody would store our baggage and we were left carting it around until our 20:45 flight. However, unlike the other reviewers I found the security to be friendly 'jobsworths' rather than determined to be unhelpful. When we finally wanted access to our apartment it was a 30 minute wait, to be taken across an uninviting car park to access our tower (although it does have its own entrance, if only we'd been told). First impressions were very poor indeed, the apartment as I say is tiny. I am not quite sure what swinging a cat actually involves, but you certainly couldn't in the bathroom or kitchen area and quite possibly also the lounge and bedroom. We are use to white towels and bedding and the grey brown towels and bedding, made my wife feel that everything was dirty. I don't think anything was really dirty, but certainly it did not feel like a nice hotel room. My wife demanded that I cancel the booking and find somewhere else. But it was non-refundable and I had already lost £40 booking a hotel that I hadn't spotted was twin beds (probably no smaller than the double bed in the apartment), so I simply couldn't. So it was off to the mall for some towels, toiletries and food. Being a Javanese Muslim Housewife, my wife's mood changed as she cleaned and cooked, building a nest for us. Indeed we grew to like the apartment. It was so hot outide in April that we spent all day in it, my wife cooking breakfast and lunch and watching the BBC. We went out for dinner every evening and there are some good Indian restauartants on nearby Jupiter Street (also reviewed). Being so high density, getting a taxi in the rush hour can be problematic, but I think this is true of most of Makati. I had nly visited Makati once before and that was alone, I found Philipinos to be charming and welcoming. This time as I say I was with my Javanese wife, who absolutely everyone assumed was my Philipino girlfriend. I guess this reflects how Philipinos interact with each other, but we found the other largely Philipino guests to be extremely rude. When heading for a door they never gave way even when we were carrying heavy bags and entered the lifts prior to us getting out of them. The worst incident was in SM Hypermarket were I lost my temper with a fellow shopper, something I never ever do in Asia. For Philipino visitors I think I would recommend this apartment, but for Indonesians and westerners beware it does not compare with similarly priced hotels. Nevertheless, I do want to reiterate that we enjoyed our stay, although cannot see us rushing back to Metro Manila, even on the visa run.

Granted it's location is bang on perfect. It's safe. It's clean. It has wifi bed and kitchen and balcony. so great for single or couple. It's small but has tv and all you need. But bizarrely your still renting not a room its not a B&B or hotel your renting someone studio appartment. But yeah I'd do it again. It's decent price. Great communal facilities and nice mall attached. So why not..
