My husband and I have been to over 40 countries and territories all over the world and have stayed in many fine hotels and resorts. Raffles Makati, however, still stood out to us in terms of its luxurious elegance and the incomparable hospitality of every single member of its staff. Special recognition to Joma, one of the most accommodating and attentive hotel butlers we’ve ever had, and Fonzy, our amicable and energetic bellman.

A wonderful hotel, beautiful and exclusive within Makati city. Service is good, the rooms are clean and very spacious as all rooms are suites. Personally I would prefer a larger fruit basket as well as wider selection of coffee. I also noticed there was no milk for the coffee in our mini bar. We stayed in room 1007. Furthermore, it lacked plates and flatware in the cabinet.

Our stay at Raffles Makati was nothing short of incredible. From the warm welcome to the care throughout and the friendly curb side goodbye. Our family of 5 including 3 small children were made to feel so at home during our short three night stay. The location alone with fantastic being walking distance to all the malls. Our Butlers, Ron and Rudolph, gave a thorough introduction to our connecting suites (one of which had been upgraded to the spacious Author’s Suite!) even offering to draw us warm baths. Each night they presented our children with plates of treats and glasses of milk. The kids were in heaven! Of particular note was the help we were given when we discovered our two year old had left her snuggle toy at our last hotel in Boracay. The concierge team (Tristan, Aaron & RK) along with our Butlers (Ron & Rudolph) went to extreme lengths to coordinate the toy’s safe arrival just hours later! They worked quietly and efficiently updating us along the way. Our daughter (and we) are forever grateful! We opted to have breakfast each morning in Mireio each morning. Kael in particular was a lovely smiling face to see each morning making an effort to chat with us and explain to my husband the traditional Filipino dishes. We had room service one evening and the food was of a high standard with plenty to choose from. We also had the high tea at The Writers Lounge which was so pretty. Overall the service in the food outlets was outstanding. My husband and I also availed of massages at Willow Stream Spa which were wonderful. All in all, our stay at Raffles Makati was fabulous. The service was impeccable - nothing was too much trouble, location super convenient, rooms well appointed with a good mix of modern and traditional.

Yesterday, my friend and I went to Raffles Makati to have coffee & chat as I have just arrived in PH on a business trip. We head to Raffles lounge around 22.37pm on 12th of April. Expected the security to open the door so we can enter, instead we got question of what business do we have visiting the hotel - we simply answered ‘We want to have a coffee as I had a long flight and only manage 3hrs of sleep for the last day or two. From work in Saudi straight to traveling to Manila.’ The security told us we cannot enter the lobby cafe to have coffee if we are not with a guest of the hotel. My friend Lindy was shocked and reacted straight away, but myself being jet lag I didn’t give any reaction. Lindy simply said ‘This cannot be right, it’s a hotel lobby cafe’ - the security guys then said ‘Ma’am sarado na po ang lobby cafe’. My friend Lindy then said ‘If it is close then why are their people having drinks and about to order’. The security then repeated that we cannot simply enter if we don’t have a guest escorting us in. ‘When did this this policy put in place?’. Security then went inside and check inside as he couldn’t present as any evidence of this policy been put in place at this hotel premises. The security came back and told us, ‘Sige po Ma’am’. After seating down at our own comfort, we ordered our drinks & cake. A lady security passed out table and went ahead to the bar, she then stood there looking at us with all eyes in. At this time I was not bothered at all but my friend did carry on talking about what has just happen at the door with the security guy. As the lady security passed our table she give us a thorough inspection, well it was more like a discriminating look. A look that you would give to someone who is about to do something bad. After witnessing this action it hit me, this security thought we are paying girls who has come to the lobby to try and get costumer. This has made me upset and furious, I then told my friend that we should speak to the manager and let them know that we are not happy. We called the staff and told them that we want to speak with the manager, a lady has then told us that she is the one in charge - we told her that we want the manager. She ask us of what is our concern, we then told her. She went to the back and called the manager, which took nearly half hour for this manager to show up. When this so called manager showed up, his name tag did not state that he is the manager so I ask him if he can call the manager. He persisted that he is the manager of the hotel and if we have any concern we should voice it out to him. Myself would not believe that he is the manager as he came as a bit in-experience and was rude. Firstly, he did not ask what was our name so he can address us properly. Secondly, he didn’t seem apologetic and helpful at all. It made me even angry that he had 2 security standing by our table why hearing out our concern. I ask him of this is necessary, he answered ‘It is within our protocol’. Of course I did not believe this, maybe if we have done something bad to the other guest or costumer then this would be necessary. Just an added recipe to the main concern we had. We asked him to tell us of why their security treated us this way, he simply answered ‘We had been told there was security issue earlier on’. Still, we don’t understand why would we be discriminated as a working girl? Firstly we don’t look/act or nor do we have an ounce of a working girl appearance. We ask Ram De Guzman (hotel manager) for the General Manager’s email address so we can email the GM of our concern, Ram De Guzman said that this information cannot be shared. We told him that we will come back the next day to speak with the GM, Ram De Guzman said that this is impossible as we would need to get an appointment to speak with the GM. This night and experience could not get any worst but it is and it’s getting very draining. We ask for the security’s name (just the name on their name tag) they would not share this (I then told my friend it’s ok, we will get his name on our way out). I don’t even know what to make out of this experience. Getting discriminated by the same race has no words to describe the feeling. I am a British citizen, Filipino by blood & proud Filipino. I have travelled all over the world, a professional person who works in a field where people respect. Stayed in all of the best 5 star hotels around the globe. My friend Lindy is a professional person who also travelled, worked & lived in Europe. Recognized professional tennis coach not only in England but also in UAE. We are not the type who complaint. Would be ok if it was as simple as cold food, wrong order or simple mistakes. Discrimination is not something that anyone should experience, it’s a very harmful and perpetuates inequality. We all have the right to be treated equally, regardless of our race, ethnicity, nationality, class, caste, religion, belief, sex, gender, language, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex characteristics, age, health or other status.

After 3 years of not being able to return to the Philippines, our return at Raffles Makati proved--as expected--to be the excellent experience we were anticipating. Our last visit to the Philippines, before Covid, was also spent at Raffles Makati. This visit was a bit complicated: Our son was joining us from London via a separate flight and airport terminal. So my inquiries and request for an additional room was handled and communicated very professionally. Raffles team members who were responding to my emails were prompt, clear, and complete in helping us. Their suggestion to book us in two connecting suites were really very much appreciated and showed how caring and thoughtful they were. The airport pick up was also rather complicated because we were arriving in one terminal and our son in another but the Concierge and transport team were at their best, letting me know the options, additional charges, and details for pick up and contingencies. Truly an impressive feat considering these were all via email (and later made easier with the use of instant messaging apps). Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted, escorted to our suites and checked-in right inside the suites which were ready for our use! I must underscore this is a really rare and superb service performance by the Raffles team. Just for comparison, last August 2023, we stayed a week at a celebrated hotel at the Shard in London and, while satisfying overall, our experiences at Raffles easily outshone that stay by miles! Finally, the service and care provided by our attentive butler (Rudolf, et al) was outstanding as was the prompt response to our request for housekeeping team members to check on a minor but annoying odour in the bath. Team members at Mereio were at their best every morning breakfast (despite having some busy days during the Holy Week) so kudos to them as well! Then of course the food and drinks, afternoon tea, room service, and other lovely service details we experienced were just top notch. If we have one minor wish, we would rather have the amenities (i.e., shampoo, lotion, etc bottles) NOT locked into a wall dispenser--as this is somewhat out of step with the otherwise first-class design and luxurious ambience of the room. It may be an exaggeration when we say we think Raffles Makati is THE BEST hotel in the country. But we are only being honest. Congratulations to the management and team of Raffles Makati--we look forward to our next stay!
