Value
1898, one of the significant years in Philippine History. A time where the Philippines was freed from the 300-year Spanish Rule. A time where our ancestors created a heritage and started making history. 1898 Hotel is situated in the middle of the busy streets of Poblacion and Nightlife capital in Makati. A short stop to dine and rest in its intricately designed rooms, hallways and lobbies filled with memories and photos of customs, landscapes, churches, houses, and sceneries during the 1900’s in the Philippines. The hotel envisions that the unique take on the hotel will distinguish the importance of our heritage and history as it partakes to creating new ones.

I had a pleasant stay. This is my 3rd time staying in this hotel. I can tell you that it is worth the money spent. Just a little reminder: make sure not to use slippers inside the bathroom, specially when floor is wet. I had a little mishap right before our checkout.

Hotel is nice with big room. Quite convenient as it is located near convenience store if you need to buy anything. Bars are also around the corner if you need a drink.

However the only down side is they don't provide Shower Foam so only soap bar is given. Remember to bring your own shower foam if you are staying here.

For our toddler's 4th birthday this December, I chose 1898 Hotel for its historical theme for a different experience.
PROS:
1. Interesting historically themed lobby. Loved the weekend change in staff uniform...from Maria Clara outfits of the ladies to Guardia Civil of the men.
2. Room was adequate in size to move around. Complete with a arm chair and coffee table. A writing desk with chair was available too.
3. Bed was high and on the firm side which we like. Came with 4 pillows and soft cushy beddings.
4. Mini bar was stocked with drinks including the classic mini bar...six mini bottles of liquor. Seldom seen these days.
5. Pool was adequate in size with separate kiddie section. We loved the bubble jet jacuzzi with warm water.

COULD BE IMPROVED
1. Buffet breakfast was very limited and mostly Filipino (it is a Filipiana themed hotel after all). For a walk-in rate of 5k/night, guests deserve more than this underwhelming selection.
2. Our mood were dampened since we were looking forward to some Photo ops on the second floor with dramatic staircase, ceiling lights and tranvia, however area was under repair during our stay.
3. Corridors and lift lobbies are paved with tiles without carpet so tends to be noisy from footsteps and baggage wheels being rolled.
4. Sauna and steam available but not complimentary to hotel guest. Must pay 500 for wet floor use in Fez Spa. Most hotels have this as standard hotel facility.
5. During booking, we indicated that we were celebrating our toddler's 4th birthday thus the hotel stay. In other hotels, a token to help celebrate would be extended in the room. However there was none from 1898 Hotel. Not even a greeting upon check-in.

To conclude, would we recommend this hotel, Yes probably for first timers who would value the theme but not so particular about breakfast and celebrating a special occasion in the hotel. Otherwise there are other hotels within a block or two to still try specially the new Coro Hotel which is just a corner away.

I booked this hotel online after checking the hotel website which showed it had a pool and gym.
I paid the night before my arrival on March 14. It was only after getting the key card that the front desk staff told me they've closed the gym and pool for disinfection.
I said they should have said that on their website and on other booking sites because now I feel cheated. I said that if I knew they wouldn't allow guests to use the pool and gym, then I could've booked other hotels instead.
Today, March 15, an American guest told me the hotel allowed him to use the gym. This was after he said he told the hotel staff he would demand for a discount for his stay.
He said this to me while he was at the pool!
I told the lady at guest services about this, and complained as well, hoping I would also finally be allowed to use the gym and pool.
Sadly, the hotel refused. I feel discriminated against.
At one point, the lady told me the gym was "still being disinfected". When I told her I've just been to the gym to check the supposed ongoing disinfection, she changed her mind and said "the disinfection is already done".
Despite it being done, the hotel was still adamant it won't let me use the gym or pool.
I also pointed out that their practice is strange because there are also people dining at the restaurant and they have not disinfected that. I know because I had lunch there.
So I said this is unfair, I paid money to have access to the gym and pool, as advertised on the hotel website. I said I need compensation for this, even a discount, or some refund to what I already paid.
To which the lady gave that typical disappointing "There's nothing we can do about it." I said that of course they can do something about it. The gym has already been disinfected. They can either let guests use the gym and pool, or they can compensate guests for this false advertising.
Hotel 1898, this is poor management, poor customer service, and a poor reply. You can still correct this. Don't take money for services you belatedly refuse to offer.

Hotel 1898 offers excellent value for money. The location is great in Makati, close to entertainment and a wide range of restaurants. The Filipino dishes in the hotel restaurant venues are excellent, however, so you may not want to stray far for a meal. The gym is small but quite serviceable. I have not tried the small pool and jacuzzi pool, but they look inviting. The housekeeping staff are excellent, and the front desk people are helpful. Internet works fine. The room is adequate, comfortable bed, decent bathroom, and I had a magnificent view of Makati. Small quibbles: more electrical outlets needed at the desk for laptops and other devices; and a luggage rack would have been helpful. I love the historical photos throughout the hotel and video footage in the lobby being a Philippine history buff, along with the retro ceiling fans, and wrought iron railing in the outdoor terrace restaurant/bar. Recommended.

Rooms are very comfortable with great views. Sadly all night until 5am the sounds of the music clubs on the streets below destroyed any chance of sleep .For half the high prices here you can easily find a quiet hotel elsewhere. For me sleep is important .

I am very disappointed of this Hotel and will certainly not recommend it. The rooms are very nice but almost everything else is bad. The service is completely out of order in the restaurant and everywhere else. I had ti wait 20 min for Coffee, no bathrobe in my rom ( I have the same kind of rom as the rest of my familj and they have bathrobes all of them. When I asked for it they said that my room shouldnt provide one (!). I paid the same sum as the rest of my family but I am Only one person so the price for me is double, actually. The staff dig not fill up my refrigerator. I asked for water at the Cafe but they told me to go to the restaurant instead of giving me a glass of water. And so on. And so on.

Hi YvonneAnita, Thank you for your feedback. I sincerely apologize for your experience at our hotel. We take these concerns very seriously. We do apologize for the confusion regarding the bath robe. We provide bath robes for our PWD Deluxe rooms as a requirement by the DOT. You stayed in one of our regular Deluxe rooms. We were fully booked during your stay and had to provide the PWD Deluxe rooms to one of your family members. Since we provide both complimentary and mini bar water bottles in all our rooms, we can only offer room service water bottles from the restaurant. However, this is something that we are looking into to improve. We apologize for the wait time for your coffee. This is a very uncommon issue for us and have taken the appropriate steps to prevent this from happening in the future. Thank you again so much! Your feedback helps us in a big way to improve all our services for you and future guests. Sincerely, Carlos

I have stayed herr multiple times before but today was the worst experience in this cheap hotel. BEWARE, they will ask you to pay for stuff you didn’t consume. The errors & inefficiencies of their stupid housekeeping staff will be blamed on you. They accuse me of consuming the cigarettes in the mini bar, a brand I don’t even use. The money is not the issue, but the principle of paying for something you didn’t consume is terrible. Beware of this cheap establishment with , crooked, criminal & cretinous staff

This is a gem in the heart of the bustling Makati scene! Close to a lot of establishments. Rooms are very clean, prompt service, excellent staff. Our room was a mini suite, quite spacious for a couple like us. The buffet was great! Definitely fulfills the Filipino breakfast experience! Also, checkin in and out was a breeze. It was a hassle free stay. Me and my husband loved the quality of service they rendered.

The inefficiency of the housekeeping staff is put on the guest to pay. They do not replenish the towels and you have to pay for it. Rooms are not cleaned till 9pm in the night. A very cheap hotel. Not worth the money you pay. Rude staff at the reception. The only thing nice is the food in the restaurant.
