I used to stay at Charter House years ago and was pleasantly surprised in my recent stay that it had been renovated. The rooms are now new and clean with wooden floors. There's complimentary water and fast enough wifi, and the breakfast is tasty. Two floors are still being renovated and an old elevator.

Overall, this is a great choice for a Makati hotel if you want to be literally in front of Greenbelt 5, a shopping and dining destination.

My only issue is you might be disrupted from sleep by the closing of doors in neighboring rooms.

I would stay here again if I'm looking for an affordable and conveniently located hotel.

I was booked for 2 nights at this hotel but stayed only for 1. A co-worker recommended this hotel because of the price, and its proximity to shopping, and he was right. The staff was friendly and helpful. When I requested for a quiet room, I was placed in one. The breakfast was "ok". Basic ammenities, 2 single beds, a fridge, TV, 2 towels in the bathroom. The water pressure was good. The problem was the beds, not the most comfortable ones. So, even if my friend was right, I ended up with a backache the next day and decided to transfer to another hotel.

My family has stayed in this hotel many times, and are going to again in June 2010. The best about it is the location, you can walk to Greenbelt, Landmark and SM. Other hotels in this area cost a lot more. The rooms are of a basic standard but nice. You have a big fridge with inexpensive drinks and snacks. There is a small rooftop pool open in daytime. The hotel restaurant is average but on the other hand you have plenty of restaurants close by.

Nice location as greenbelt is just across the hotel,do not expect much as place is a bit old and room is just ok.Food wise in their cafe was not presentable and asking for coffee requires multiple reminder, better eat outside if you can as there are a lot of choices and all are very near walking distance

The location is unbeatable, within metres of the entire Greenbelt and Glorietta complexes (13 huge interconnected malls and they are building a 14th - go figure). There is a handy 7/11 shop connected to reception for water, snacks etc. The hotel provides two small plastic water bottles a day and when I asked the maid for more she said no, only two a day. That's OK, she's just doing her job, but it's nowhere near enough - also I wish all hotels would stop using plastic bottles. The room was big and light, with an art-deco style curved window overlooking the street and malls. The bathroom was small but functional. All in all as a budget hotel in this expensive area it's very hard to beat. But, the downsides for me were no safe in the room - as a constant traveller being able to put my important documents and belongings into a safe as I move around is paramount, and I was surprised there wasn't one. The wifi was very weak at times. There was tinny 'musak' (popular easy listening music reimagined into a cruise liner elevator nightmare) piped through the corridors which was really distracting and unnecessary. There was a pool but it was under renovation so unavailable, and there was no reduction in the rate to reflect this.

I was not expecting much from this hotel but I think for its price and proximity to shops and restaurants, it's a steal! The rooms are large and the bed is pretty decent and comfortable. There's also a convenience store at the ground floor. I would stay here again.

This hotel is close to the airport, very accessible by the fast track Skyway and is just across the road from all the Greenbelt development which has everything you could possible want at your doorstep.

The major downside is it's noisy. Firstly there are on-going renovations and the management seem unable to control the starting hours if the workers who choose any time from 7:30 onwards to start Jack hammering and drilling. I complained twice, found the staff surprised that the workers were drilling, but within 10mins the noise had shut down.

Also lower floors are noisy especially if you are in the front rooms. Make sure you ask for a higher floor. Cleaning staff are variable. Had to keep reminding them to leave water and they missed a few requests for my room to be made up.

Recent renovations have made this an excellent budget choice. But get the rooms as high floor as you can and complain immediately about noise.

The Charter House Hotel in Makati is an old hotel with outdated rooms but the location is excellent in Legaspi Street opposite Greenbelt 5.
Typical 1980's room decor, clean with good facilities and maid service daily.
I stayed many times because it was so convenient to shopping, airline office in lobby, a basic restaurant with good breakfast.

Perfect location. Just across the street to all major malls in Makati including Greenbelt 1,2,3,4,5, Legaspi Village, Ayala Mall and Glorietta Malls.
There is also a 24 hour 7/11 convenience store a few doors away.

Very secure Hotel always felt very safe. Its not 5 star and not at all flash but for a safe and secure place to sleep and shower its satisfactory. I have not stayed for some time so maybe the rooms have been upgraded check with hotel.

Initial impression: needing updating and TLC!
Reception were efficient but not particularly friendly and certainly not helpful later on when asking for a street map.
My room was a reasonable size and satisfactorily equipped with rather old-looking furniture but with one special benefit: a small table and 2 chairs in addition to an arm chair! The bathroom was functional and water supply good. There was no hair drier. Water was apparently provided daily but they missed one day for me. The carpets in my room and in the corridors looked grubby although the cleaners were doing their best. The fridge was large but I didn't need it. The A/C unit was noisy but was left on when I was out of the room and switched off otherwise. The TV required an engineer to turn it on with buttons hidden on the back of the set. The swimmingpool was not for swimming (for adults) but for taking a dip and cooling down and good for kids (tiny and shallow!).
Breakfast was the usual stupid system of "you can have coffee but not juice and cereals but not eggs" and bacon is always as extra although you can have ham included in the free breakfast. The solution is to make sure you get double occupancy billing although single so you can get 2 breakfasts and choose what you like (apart from bacon!)
The 2 lifts were efficient and you never had to wait long.
The location is perfect if you like easy access to Greenbelt: Greenbelt 5 is just across the road.
All in all OK but not as good as alternative hotels in the same location.

I've seen this hotel since the 1980's. Of course, there were no expectations when I stayed there. I chose The Charter House because of its proximity to Greenbelt Square (literally across). Besides, I was out most of time and only stayed in the hotel room for 5 hours to sleep and shower.

No question about the staff as they were very friendly. Breakfast was ok (ala carte) and we had 3 items to choose from. Rooms were basic and obviously old. Our room was clean despite the age. No bed bugs as I always check each hotel I stayed at.

Will stay again.
