Considering that this is the #1 hotel according to TripAdvisor in Batangas City, my family and I expected a higher room quality than what we experienced.
The room at first glance was neat and clean but then we noticed that the curtains had holes in them and to cover some of this up, the back of the curtains were painted with large amounts of white paint. As opposed to changing the curtains, this method was used which was not pleasant to see in a hotel room.
Mildew was present in the shower and on the bidet which was just plain unsanitary. The bathroom was a very disappointing sight, considering that a hotel stay cannot be made enjoyable if cleanliness isn't a priority.
The tub for the shower was also high and difficult to climb into- a warning if you are staying with an elderly loved one.
During our breakfast the next day we also noticed that the staff maintaining the area did not budge to clean some food that fell on the floor, instead all were just standing to the side.
The pool in this hotel is big with a lot of chairs surrounding it. Bad choice of flooring around it though as it was very slippery and dangerous so if staying with small children, please notify them to be careful.
The outside of the hotel seems to have aged considerably but not gracefully so upkeep is needed.
Also, while we were staying at this hotel in June the elevators were still down so make sure if they are up and running again if accessibility is your main concern.

Back in October 2014, I was coming to the Philippines to meet my siblings who were scheduled to take an English Proficiency Exam called IELTS at Hotel Pontefino. For convenience, I decided to book here:
Booking Details
Reference Number : PH-2052391-3502
Hotel Name : Hotel Pontefino
No. of Room(s) : 1
Check-In Date : 16-Oct-2014
Check-Out Date : 18-Oct-2014
$499.22
I was very impressed at the website and imagining that I'm paying $250/night, this must be good as I've never even paid such amount even in Japan or New York. We had a room behind the lobby desk and it seemed modern inside as we walked into the door. Going inside the room was a very revealing experience. The bathroom and sink were horrible, worse than the trucker's lodge along Route 66. There were black stain/grout on the bathroom tile, it made me gag overtime I had to use it. I had complained about it but they told me that they don't have any available rooms for the night. I had just gotten off a 16 hour flight and had no idea where to go so I stayed. The next day, they have offered a transfer to a different room but since all our bags are unpacked and it is more stressful I decided to forego on the offer. In the day, we went out to see around and by evening (6-7pm), we have gotten a phone call from the front desk asking us why we opened the windows above the glass fixed windows. And I said we didn't and we need security to come in. 30 minutes later, two guys with a ladder came in, and said they were from engineering and are going to close the window. There is no security. I placed a call to the front desk and demanded for the manager. I found myself meeting a soft spoken apologetic manager in the lobby. But I was left wondering why was there a need for me to demand for a manager? Wasn't it a SOP? To his credit, he had sent me a fruit platter which I willingly took. Nonetheless, my stay at this place was horrific and will not recommend this to anyone.
Moreover, to have WiFi access you have to stay in the lobby where it is infested with mosquitoes.
As we travel, we rely on marketing and reviews to make decisions and it is just proper that visitors are warned of this.

Their breakfast buffet is misleading. They make you think your breakfast is free, but all you get is free bread, jam , and butter, and coffee and juice. You really have to pay if you want a real meal. I'm a breakfast buffet person so I mind. The hotel is ok, but if you ask me, there are much better ones in the area. This one doesn't offer anything special. So-so.

We stayed here before and had a pleasant experience on our first stay. This time we were placed in a room with no hot water. We called the front desk and they promised someone would come up to take a look, no one showed up. Bathroom was in generally poor condition, several broken tiles around the tub. Air Conditioner turned on but would not allow any control from the remote. When booking the rate said it included breakfast. Breakfast entailed a choice of 3 breads and one type of fruit. For an additional $120 Peso you could get the "upgraded" breakfast that included eggs and meat. The rate should clarify that this is a continental breakfast or better yet actually include a real breakfast and not mislead the guest. For $5000 a night I would expect more than this. Gouging the guest for an additional $120 for breakfast at this rate when it advertises it as included is pretty shabby.

I'm working as a Front Desk Agent in Canada & stayed a lot of hotels already there & in the Philippines. Anticipationg for a new experience in the province but everything was so disappointing:
1. There's a mix up on our reservation when we checked in. They did not resolve the problem though the fault was on their end. Neither did they offer any compensation.
2. The bathroom is gross ~ the underneath of the soap dish is full of soap scuds & molds. They are obviously cleaning the visible parts only. The sink filter is so rusty, as well.
3. Very minimal towels. No bath math, face towels & hand towels.
4. Very minimal bathroom amenities as well.
5. No defined lost & found procedure. We forgot a pricey perfume & little tiara in the room, but FD said nothing's found.
6. Check out process was a mess. They double charged my credit card. Had to call them back to fix it.
7. Appliances are outdated and no adaptors on their own coffee makers!
8. Cable reception is so poor, not to mention that it's not a flat screen TV.
9. Overpriced local call charges & so on....

Stayed at PonteFino In September 2013 for 3 nights and I was so shocked at what I saw when we got our room. I can't believe its considered 4star Hotel. The bathroom is so old and you couldn't imagine your self taking a bath in that bathtub or even putting your feet on the the tab without wearing sleepers. The tiles are chips and cracked and the floor mat in the bath tab are so dirty that you wouldn't even use it at your own home.
The airconditioner is so dirty and making funny noices at night. The lights in the room and the bathroom are not bright enough in the evening. The carpeted hallway had an old smell to it and the breakfast OMG! Its the worse breakfast I've ever seen for a hotel to offer. You'll get 3 main choices of food for breakfast such as Tortang itlog, garlic rice and harsh brown in which they serve cold at 6am. Interesting because breakfast starts at 6am and you'll get food that looks like left over from the day before.
Pontefino is the worse hotel I've ever stayed at and it's way over priced for what they've got to offer and it's not a 4 Star hotel at all.

Hotel is located close to the Batangas City, which is about 2.5 hours drive from Manila. Check-in process is OK, staff is hospitable and guest is served welcome drink. I was "upgraded" to Deluxe room but the physical location of the room is "below" ground (lobby) level. So, I can only view the wall from my room. Room has just been re-furbished, look nice and very spacious. Bed is huge and comfy. TV is Sony LCD with good selection of channels. Internet connection is commendable (compared to the previous hotel I put up in PH). Mini bar stuffs (some soft drinks, fruit juice and canned fries) are COMPLIMENTARY, very rare indeed. Had a dinner at hotel-owned Robusta restaurant. Food quality and service is good. However, the complimentary breakfast, also at the same place, lacks choices. Other small minuses are the air-cond blower is located directly facing the bed, so it can be freezing cold and there is lack of thought given to the toiletries and clothes placement around bathroom area. Lastly, paid PHP 4,300.00 per night. Would say it is good value for $$$.

Staying here on business long term and having looked around at other hotels in the area this is by far the best option providing the pocket will allow you to stay but you get your moneys worth
The staff are so welcoming and eger to help with any problems. Very spacious room.
The internet in my room was dreadful so on leaving for work asked could it be looked at. I was assured that it would and also that the tec would be accompanyied by a security officer at all times. On my return all fixed and great. Asked if the aircon filters could be cleaned as looked like they had not been done in a while on my return all done no problem.
The Facilities offered are top rate with good food and a great pool.
Batangas it self has not much to offer but if you come this far check this place out and you won't be disapointed.

We stayed there for 2 nights only. The place is well kept, relaxing and good enough for short visits. The food though is not that good, the staff are accommodating. Overall, it was a nice place to stay. I have no idea with regards to the price as it was company paid. There are some features in the room that may need fixing, the hotel being old as it is.

Awful hotel, avoid at all costs. The rooms are not well maintained, air quality is gross everyone I stayed there with got sick afterwards. Water pressure is non existent as well as hot water. Food is overpriced, a simple bottle of water will cost you a 500% markup... You can save tons of money and walk to the nearby 7/11 and pay a fraction of the cost. The only working elevator was being hoarded by the employees trying to clean and service rooms which made it inconvenient for guests to even use. For the price you pay per night it will hardly be worth it. At best this hotel is worth $40 per night.

It's my understanding that breakfast is included with all rooms. Breakfast was included with our room when we stayed. Why not email or call the hotel directly?
