Hotel's Favorite
There are newer hotels on the beach in Salalah, but I keep returning to the Hilton, because the staff are consistently excellent, it's quiet, the rooms are large, everything is immaculately clean and the gardens and beach are peaceful.

I am always warmly welcomed as a returning guest, and they always acknowledge my Hilton Diamond status and offer me a room upgrade. Ahmed on reception offered exceptional customer service and always a warm greeting, and - together with Ali, the concierge - we compared tips on places to go and explore. Their knowledge of, not only the Dhofar region, but all Oman, is impeccable, and it was good to get some tips of places to eat that I hadn't found before in Salalah.

My room was immaculate and as a regular returning customer, it is always a pleasure arriving to a fresh fruit basket after the flight. My stay was just before Eid, and before Khareef, so the hotel was very peaceful and I enjoyed the tranquility after exploring during the days.

The Salalah Hilton does feel like a home away from home, and I look forward to my next stay.

We stayed for 4 nights and saw the enormous changes that have occurred in and around Salalah since my last visit 30 years ago but the staff made the visit so worth while.
However sophisticated, spacious and luxurious this hotel might be as always it is the staff that make a true 5 star resort always with a warm welcoming smile and eager to please. It is possible to get a number 20 bus to and from airport for 200 baizas per person but we got a free airport return trip

I have been to this hotel many times over the last 20 years. It has always given me great pleasure to write a report about the property and this is my recent update, but I am returning for a further 10 nights in December.
When you enter a calm, peaceful lobby with a high dome ceiling there is a feeling of happiness. Swift check in by polite receptionists who are delighted that you are staying at their hotel.
We chose a Superior sea view bedroom with balcony. This is 45 square metres in size with a good bathroom and amenities. View was of the garden, pool and the beach and sea through the one or two palm trees.
The room was spotlessly clean, and was serviced every day mostly with fresh linen. Bathroom is large with bath and shower over. Plenty of clothes hanging space but you might want to order a few more coat hangers from housekeeping.
Hotel has a small parade of shops off reception with a little general store run by Zain a Sri Lankan. Great Guy.
Food, when we were there was excellent with a good choice. The Al Maha Restaurant served breakfast and dinner. Some nights dinner was buffet, mostly given over to Asian style food and BBQ, Otherwisw the A La Carte menu was very good in terms of choice. We ate from both and were exceptionally pleased.
They are opening a new restaurant in the New Year, which will be A La Carte and will serve some great food, I am sure.
Some floors are smoking and some non smoking so make sure you place your requirement when making your booking. We were on floor three, which was non smoking.
There is a new hotel building next door to the Hilton on the Salalah town side, but it is complete and did not interfere with our enjoyment whatsoever.
The beach is wide, about 100 yards to the sea.
Staff were wonderful and I would like to mention Anthony and Ramesh in the senior positions departments. Soumaya in reception, Rhea and Karen and Husnain in the restaurant and a wonderful lad, Al Amin, who looks after the gardens, pool area and fetched our drinks when we wanted them.
I dearly love this hotel and will return, as I said, in December. The spiritual vibe for me is perfect and sitting in the garden under the palms, surrounded by bougainvillea, with a wonderful breeze every day coming in off the Arabian Sea is my perfect thing to do.
I am biased, but would recommend this hotel for travellers wanting peace and quiet at a reasonable price (take half board if you can, no restaurants within walking distance) with good service and it is interesting to look towards the port and sea and experience the ships rolling in and rolling out. Love it.

I have stayed 3 days here. It’s an 5 star hotel with 3 star facilities. Very old furnished room and small toilet. There were mosquitoes inside and outside of the room. I stayed in Room 135. Wifi was very poor, I have to use my mobile data through out the stay. I recommend anyone not to select rooms near to 135.
The worst thing was breakfast. I paid for breakfast which was already a huge price and got the food worth 1/10 of the value. There were very little items in the breakfast. If you go to a 3 star property you can get verity of foods in breakfast. I recommend not to have breakfast in this hotel.
This hotel provides only 2 bottle of 500ml water as complimentary. I gets 4 or more bottles in 5 star resorts.
And there were no much tea and sugar as complimentary in room. You will get only 2 packs of tea and coffee.
Staffs was so nice and hotel was clean.
We can see beach from the property but it’s like 300 meters from the property. And it’s not easy walk to beach because of the plants in the sand.
Pool was nice but no lifeguard. Hotel check in and check out was very easy and fast. Receptionist a Philippino nationality was very nice.

We had the opportunity to stay in the new wing of the hotel. The room was spacious and tastefully decorated. The bathroom had a large shower head with plenty of hot water. It was a very comfortable arrangement.
The staff was helpful and courteous. They asked a number of times about our stay and helped with recommendations about visiting wadis.
The pool area has plenty of lawn chairs and a nice looking pool. We personally didn’t use the pool because we spent our day exploring Oman.

The hotel is located in a rather obscure location. It’s as if there were big plans to develop the area that just never happened. It’s important to know that this is a underdeveloped area of Oman. There is virtually no traffic or people for that matter. It’s a little rustic. The hotel fits in with the surroundings, but it’s just not a built up touristy town with amenities.

We did go and check out one of the other hotels that is in the same price range. We thought the Hilton was better for a more quiet setting (fewer children) and it’s a smaller site. We did think that the other location had better dining options however.

The Hilton is well worth considering for a stay in Salalah. We will look forward to returning.

Despite having a confirmed reservation with proof, the front desk was denying having any booking and was insisting of not having any available rooms. After the intervention of the manager, a room became available. The Hotel is old and very poorly maintained. Housekeeping is not their stronghold as well. The restaurants are not inviting and the food variety, selection, presentation and quality is very bad.
Despite having being charged for 4 nights, we checked out after the second night and after managing to find another booking in another resort to continue our vacation in Salalah.

The Hilton Salalah was on the whole, expensive and disappointing. Positives were a clean and comfortable room with 2 queen beds, a great bathroom and friendly staff. The man in the shop was especially helpful. Breakfast was very good but would be improved if honey and marmalade were available. However, there were more negatives than positives. We arrived in the middle of the night and were exhausted so check in was a trial that took ages. Once in the room there were no face cloths, robes or slippers and the hygiene seal on the door was already broken. Of the advertised 6 restaurants, only 2 were available during our stay with the same, very limited menu. There was no sandwich or main course option for vegetarians unless you ate salad twice a day. The one pool area was small (luckily the hotel was nowhere near full) and the sun beds placed on grass which was mud in many places. The beach is clean but it’s a long walk to the sea! We had a significant birthday whilst there which I mentioned when booking and the presence of a poster and cards should have prompted something- a slice of complimentary cake or fruit (as always happens in an IHG hotel) but no. I would not return and would not advise others to stay here.

My husband and I spent 4 nights here over Christmas. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We have a lovely room with a balcony and sea view. The hotel is on the beach. Hotel is in a quiet location about 3 miles out of town. There is a public bus outside and it is 3 or 4 bus stops into town. We enjoyed our stay.

I stayed in this hotel with my kids Aug 13 to 18, and our room experience was TERRIBLE.
Someone decided to put the outdoor bar in close proximity to one of the wings, the bar is litteraly surrounded by rooms. Every night you wake up on people talking, laughing, shouting, and on 2 out of 5 nights litterally screaming at 3am.
It looks like the staff has instructions to encourage bar clients on the expense of hotel guests. First time i complained, i was told the manager will talk to me, nothing happened. The loudest night i called reception at 3:45am, the answer i got was " we apologize for the inconvenience, please give us 10-15 minutes"
So the hotel is expecting a guest trying to sleep at 3:45 am to simply "give them 15 minutes"
No this hotel is not for sleeping.

This said, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the facilities are good although old, the food is average, but i guess this is on the high end for Salalah standard. I'd say a 3 or 4 stars.

There is a bar at the pool side - unfortunately I did not check the fee per day without being guest. But I think it is possible at there is a gym where external guests can do exercise and also a table tennis club.
