Hmmm, this is a type of hotel I see all the time, median, neutral and mostly innocuous, an establishment with no discernable areas of excellence. In all cases this type of hotel can be classified into two categories, either a young and upcoming hotel, trying really hard to compete with the large corporate players, or in the case of the Golden Tulip, a hotel that has had its heyday, and is in decline, more importantly without a further boost in service standards will probably be consigned to the 'do not stay here!' bucket. Needless to say an average stay, the hotel reception is well-maintained and looks impressive on arrival, however the rest of the Common Areas of the hotel are really tired and in need of attention, for example paint flaking on the room balcony sunshades, this has been left unattended for at least 2 years, how do I know ? Because it remains unchanged from our stay here back in 2020. The swimming pool does not appear to be heated, and despite the hot weather was too cold for comfortable swimming, additional the pool is run down and dirty, pool tiles covered in mould and algae, with a ring of grime at the water's edge. No staff or life guards on duty, at the time of our stay there were hotel patrons that were in the pool fully clothed (really dangerous and most unhygienic) with staff passing by, but no-one addressing this issue with the guests involved. Children's play area, equipment really dated, sun-faded and in need of renovation or replacement. Breakfast is OK, a good selection of options, staff are attentive, and the restaurant is well maintained with attention to COVID regulations. I think my biggest bug-bear was the really negative and belligerent attitude of hotel reception staff. They were sat there looking really miserable, full of arrogance, brashness and condescension in their customer service manner... no welcome greetings, no smiles or pleasantries, surrounded by aura of negativity. Frankly, this type of attitude colours the rest of the stay, and in my humble opinion needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency into to reverse the fortunes of this hotel.

3 nights stay of blissful experience. The Hotel is back to normal and even better since our visit during pandemic times. Nizwa is our get to place for a tranquil stay while getting to experience the true Omani hospitality. Golden Tulip is the perfect base when exploring Ad Dakliyah region, Jabal Akhdar (Green Mountain) and the Nizwa Fort. After a tiresome day, we got to cool down in their pool up until late evening. Capping our nights with a awesome multilingual trio band. Breakfast was sumptuous, fresh and they’ve got healthy section as well. Pancakes and waffles at breakfast is not to be missed. The room was super clean, huge bed (Superking). Our daughter loved the sofa bed because she got her own space. I have to mention their blackout curtain serve its purpose. Even guests with their own car will totally appreciate their stay here. They have games for kids to keep them entertained. In room dining is friendly on the pocket and generous in portion so there is no need to go out of the hotel. We would like to thank Lucy and Feye at the reception, Sagupta from the Restaurant and Niyaz from pool bar. Tip, when ordering for their alcoholic beverages ask for promotional offers.

Stayed for 2 nights at the Golden Tulip. The Hotel is centrally located to allow day trips to the main sights of the area and close enough by car to Nizwa to go out for dinner. The pool is great after a long day in the heat!
