The Maradiva Villas Resort is an outstandingly peaceful and comfortable haven. You couldn’t ask for a more tranquil and relaxing experience. The villas are very well laid out and give excellent privacy and comfort. All the restaurants are of a very high standard and consistency, but, most of all, it’s the staff who make the place so wonderful. They are, not only, very well trained, but also warm, friendly and charming - a real reflection on the Mauritian people themselves

Absolutely incredible 10 days here - we came in January for our honeymoon and it’s the best hotel we’ve ever stayed at and probably ever will! The setting is truly beautiful - the beach is secluded and utterly stunning. We had a beachfront suite pool villa about 10m back from the beach, which meant we had unobstructed gorgeous views from our pool and terrace. The staff are wonderful - so friendly, thoughtful and helpful. The food at all 3 restaurants was to such a high standard - every night in Coast2Coast (the main restaurant) there is a different set menu, which we really enjoyed. One of the best parts of the holiday was the activities available at Maradiva - particularly snorkelling and swimming with dolphins. Strongly recommend - we’re dying to go back!

The staff are generally very helpful and friendly. However, standards here fall short in many areas and Maradiva is certainly not a five star experience. Villa: nothing is complimentary apart from tea and coffee, milk and some water. There is a TV with a Bose speaker, but no pre-paid channels. The shower dripped in the night. The air conditioning was old and rickety, so we slept with earplugs in. The door connecting the bedroom to the bathroom let in a lot of light, so we used eye masks. We sleep more comfortably in London! Food: the Japanese was great, the Indian was variable. We weren’t keen on the menu at Coast2Coast, but it is the only restaurant with a holiday-feel semi-outdoor set up. Breakfast was very poor in terms of range and quality. We actually went for dinner at Spices Restaurant at the neighbouring Sands resort for many of our evening meals - a much nicer location on the beachfront, overlooking the sea. Service: the hotel is hit and miss on consistency. For example, they send evening “treats” - but not every day, and sometimes what was sent was pitiful. The beach service was also variable and on some days beach beds were in short supply. A few times the beach beds we wanted to use had cigarette buts and rubbish around them. Room service: really don’t have their timings right. Does anyone want a turndown service whilst they are in the villa getting ready for dinner?! We used the “do not disturb” switch regularly and often had to wait or plan our time around the service. On many days our villa wasn’t cleaned until mid-afternoon. Charges: the first email you’ll receive from the hotel demands full payment in advance. They charge half the room rate (!) for late check out. There is a compulsory EUR350 per person charge for NYE - standard concept in Mauritius, but this was high, included no drinks, and felt like an enforced wedding reception from the 1990s. Others have written about the water. The complimentary yoga and meditation sessions are actually chargeable. If you want to have dinner in your villa, you can do that - at an additional charge. Perhaps times are particularly hard - a lady we met was even charged EUR1.25 for each extra coffee capsule! Reception: they allow an utterly incompetent young lady to face off to guests. She asked us to come to reception and pay for an extension of our stay - twice - on Boxing Day! We left the beach and went to reception to get this done. What should have been a 10 minute trip took over 90 minutes with various mishaps and issues - I have never experienced service quite as bad, with such disrespect for our time - both in the demand for payment and execution of taking it. Information: staff did not know information, such as details of events listed in the Festive Booklet. I was often passed from person to person, and told someone would come back to me... and of course no one did. Similarly, trying to arrange a catamaran trip via the concierge was a pointless exercise. Last evening: we booked the teppanyaki. The F&B manager told us that the “chef has designed a special menu for you tonight”. How lovely, we thought - a nice send off! We sat and watched whilst everyone else was cooked and served their food - and eventually our main course came out… pre-made, from the kitchen. Far from “special”. It transpired that they had over-booked between both restaurants for the 19.00 sitting and wanted fewer people to cook fresh for. There are plenty of ways a decent establishment could have handled their own issue:- this was unprofessional, deceitful, and showed complete disregard for our experience. The manager: I sent Francis Longueve a copy of this review before posting it. Somehow, by 09.00 am on the same day, he reported back that the hotel had held a meeting with all concerned to modify and improve. Extremely efficient, it seems! He suggested we should have made particular complaints during our stay to help the hotel improve straight away - in my view, that would have caused us further aggravation and achieved nothing. Summary: the concept of this hotel (villas, private pool, covered outdoor patio, general peace and quiet, beach view and access) is really the selling point and was the only reason we booked here and extended. If you want great service and a real five star experience, this is not the place for you.

Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa is the absolute perfection when it comes to luxury and prestigious. Having been there for my honeymoon (mid-December 2021), my wife and myself were utterly marveled at the attention of each staff members that took care of our each and every needs from the moment that we crossed the gates until the moment we left. The reservation team with Melissa, Valerie, Karine and Stephanie were very patient with us. I cannot begin to fathom the patience they shown towards us. We are truly pleased with the service. The housekeeping team has been excellent. The cleanliness of the room is important and we felt very at ease with Shenaz who took care of this for us. Thirdly, we wish to commend Pritila, Dhanish, Rishi and Nitish from the Coast2Coast restaurant and F&B for being at our behest during our breakfasts and lunch. Their attention to detail and caring attitude has been truly admirable. Also, the company of Vijay during the romantic dinner under the raj tents has been exquisite and an experience in itself. Jessica (from Teppanyaki), Dhirun and Leonardo (from Cilantro), were just great. The service has been excellent. The food at both restaurants are great. At the reception, we were really grateful to have Pooja who, despite tight schedules, managed to go above and beyond her call of duty for us. From housekeeping to F&B, our experience was truly exhiliarating and the attentiveness and kindness of the staffs is truly commendable. The smiles and compassion are very contagious and the passion they possess for their jobs reverbate through their every actions. We have been to other resorts before and yet, the experience we have had at Maradiva has been one that we will talk about for years to come. We are already planning our next stay.
