Nestled in a serene setting, Six Senses Kanuhura is frequently lauded for its calming and romantic ambiance, especially at night. The resort's cleanliness and array of amenities, including diverse dining and activities like diving and yoga, receive high marks from many travelers, although a few suggest enhancements in modernization and spa offerings.
Guests commend the warm and personalized service, yet some feel that room privacy and the overall value could be better when compared to alternative resorts.

Detailed Reviews
We have visited Kanuhura many times over the years, from One and Only ,Sun resorts and now Six Senses. The resort has been updated with creative improvements. The Villas, furniture and fittings have been replaced throughout but at the same time keeping that special Kanahura feel.A new sunset restaurant ,the Point , has a wonderful Spanish restaurant led by Chef Manu ,with Frank and the other staff creating a great atmosphere both at lunch and dinner with different menus for both.
You can eat and watch Sting rays, baby sharks and other wonderful coloured fish swim by.
Upstairs there is a bar and pool to watch the Sunsets and at happy hour 5-6 a DJ plays music to set the scene.
The pool bar Sip and Sand serves food lunch through to Dinner and is a great place to watch the world go by,
The Market Place serves breakfast and dinner with everything you could want along with a coupe of themed nights. All the staff were excellent and worked hard to make everyone have a great holiday, especially Arun,Fariz,Ahusham and Dibba.
The transition from the airport to the seaplane was professionally handled and made it as easy as possible if you were a first time guest.
Our GEM Aseem met us at the jetty and arranged anything we needed through our our stay.
The housekeeping team were excellent throughout the resort and the gardeners continued to make the island a beautiful paradise.Make sure you visit the stunning orchid nursery.
It is one of the most beautiful natural islands in the Maldives giving you a true sense of paradise.
Considering the resort has just reopened the management team led by Bryce , JB and Risa have worked very hard to pull it together .
The team are receptive to ideas and suggestions to ensure Kanuhura continues to be one of the most stunning and natural resorts in the Maldives.
We look forward to our next visit in February. Thankyou.

Hotel's Favorite
I visited this place exactly 20 years ago when this was One & Only Kanuhura. I got my Advanced Open Water certification and Nitrox in 2003 at Kanuhura Sun Dive Center.
Kanuhura used to be one of the first top resorts in Maldives at that time.
We eagerly awaited this new Six Senses to open and immediately went on our family vacation.
VILLAS – 9/10
We arrived at Six Senses a few days after the official opening as a family of 3 (together with a couple that were our friends), and we stayed in Beach Villas with a pool facing Northeast (the side of the Water Villas).
First of all, I believe this is the better side of the island as it is quieter as all the activities are on the other side (Boat jetties, Water planes, and so on are all on the other side)
On the water villa side, the beach is narrower, but the sand is more soft (beautiful soft white sand)
Most of the villas are fully refurbished with pools, and there are some completely newly built ones called retreats (marked K, L, M, and N on the hotel map) that you can download from the Six Senses website. The newly built villas are around the Point restaurant. The new villas are superb; however, be aware that the newly planted vegetation around these retreats is quite sparse, and there is plenty to grow in the future. So, there can be a sense of insufficient privacy.
I recommend water villas and beach villas marked B and E on the side where the water villas are located.
At each villa, you get your own bicycle that even has a tag (with each guest's initials laser engraved in wooden tags attached to the bicycle.
FOOD – 10/10
The food at the resort was exceptional, and we particularly enjoyed dining at the Spanish restaurant THE POINT for lunch and dinner. Our favorite Chef, Manu (from Sevilla, Spain), is a super friendly and great guy; we loved his food, ambiance, and even our conversations. Food includes many Spanish specialties like Jamón ibérico, lobsters, fresh fish and beef on the Josper grill, long-time cooked lamb cutlets, etc. Below the restaurants at night-time is a gathering place for baby sharks, sting rays, and birds.
The restaurant for breakfast, "The Market," also offers an incredible selection of high-quality food, including over 50 different types of fresh fruits. Guests can enjoy a variety of freshly squeezed juices, excellent coffee, and eggs prepared to order. The breakfast station also features an array of different top-class cheeses and other delicious options, such as
Hand-sliced prosciutto, freshly baked bread and focaccias, huge croissants and pastry section, salad bar, and 2 x Asian food stalls.
On a few nights, we had thematic buffets (Asian and the better one was a Barbecue dinner with lobsters, shrimps, fresh tuna reef fish, and all kinds of meat.
We dined for a few days in the Italian restaurant "Bottega,” a great Italian chef cooking special pasta for our son, who had some allergies, and personally cooked his pasta. Great pizza and other Italian dishes are on the menu.
Sip & sand is a restaurant and bar near the main pool – casual to drink a few draft beers. We had lunch there for a few days.
Scoops is where you can always pass and get your lovely ice cream- your scoops of complimentary Six Senses ice cream. My son passes every day to get his marvellous vanilla ice cream.
The only place we did not dine for lunch was Drift, located on the gorgeous Jehunuhura Island *the neighboring island is amazing. The reason was that this restaurant was not included in our Full Board pack, and we opted out of the other great lunch options (Point was the best). Even if you do not dine in Drift, a free boat ride visit to Jehunuhura is a must as this is incredible beauty.
SCUBA DIVING 10/10
Fushifaru Protected Marine Area used to see more than 100 sharks in one dive in 2003 and is still great today. You cannot see 100 sharks now, but in an area of 20 in one dive, yes.
The scuba diving experience is fantastic, especially if you love sharks, as the dive sites around the channels are brilliant. Fushifaru Kandu and Fushifaru Thila are brilliant spots, particularly if you can dive during the incoming current, as it is full of big fish from sharks, huge tuna, barracudas, schools of Eagle Race, and huge Stingrays. During one dive, you can witness at least 20 sharks, schools of fish, and huge turtles. We were fortunate enough to experience four Manta Rays, even though the manta season had not started yet, and it was amazing.
I was so lucky some days to be alone on the boat with my divemaster, Elisa. I basically had private diving:) Diving boats and the quality of the equipment and service on board was beyond expectations (and I have been diving in 10 different Maldivian Atolls)
WATER SPORTS (SNORKELLING) – 10/10
My wife and son also went snorkeling with the Water Sports Center and were fortunate to swim with the Manta Rays. They also spotted and snorkeled with 4 mantas in Fushifaru and snorkelled with 20 big nurse sharks, which was fantastic. Safety (one of the guides always swims with my son), food, service, boats, everything is over 10 /10.
Overwater plane transfers were excellent with Manta Air – all transfers were smooth, efficient, and well-planned.
There is a game club called Island Hideout, with pool tables, foosball tables, darts, and other games. Nice one
OVERALL:
It is a brilliant resort that was hard to leave. Or you leave with tears in your eyes. As this is in the soft opening period, things will only improve, and we look forward to returning.

Response from Bryce Seator, General Manager at Six Senses Kanuhura
Responded Sep 19, 2023
Dear ivo_k, A warm hello from Six Senses Kanuhura! Thank you for sharing your experience of your recent stay with us. It's wonderful to hear that you were eagerly waiting for Six Senses Kanuhura to officially launch. I truly appreciate how your review gives a detailed insight into the villas, food, scuba diving, and water sports. It is a great pleasure to know that you have enjoyed staying in the Beach Villa with Pool. However, the mention of newly built retreats and their landscaping is valuable information for us to take corrective measures, and I will surely keep that in mind. Our talented chefs were very pleased to know that you enjoyed their finest creations at all the restaurants and had a wonderful dining experience. They would like to express their gratitude for your recognition of their hard work, particularly Chef Manu (Spanish Chef) and Chef Fillipo (Italian Chef), who are always eager to serve exceptional dishes to our guests. It's great to hear that you explored and enjoyed the neighboring island, Jehunuhura even if you were not able to try the lunch experience in Drift. I understand that dining choices are important, and we'll take this into consideration as we aim to provide even more dining flexibility for our guests in the future. However, I am delighted to know that you found The Point to be a standout lunch option. Your input helps us improve and offer the best possible experience for our guests. Your experience of scuba diving and snorkeling sounds fantastic, especially with the opportunity to witness sharks, huge tuna, barracudas, schools of eagle rays, huge stingrays, mantas, and nurse sharks. It's great to know as well that Elisa, the rest of the Dive Team, and the Water Sports Team have provided your family with a safe and enjoyable experience. Once again, I appreciate your wonderful praise for our offerings and please know that the entire team is duly recognized for a job well done, as always. It may be a bit early to think of your next holiday already, but I would love to welcome you back with us in the not-too-distant future. Best regards, Bryce Seator General Manager

Wonderful hotel, corresponding to 5 stars. The villas are spacious, clean, the beach is nice. There aren't as many fish as there are elsewhere, but there are - we've seen reef sharks and turtles and rays and all kinds of beautiful change. The hotel's previous owners started building a home reef, but the Six Senses concept is laissez-faire, so the reef stopped building, it grows itself (obviously not so fast). The food in all the restaurants without exception is delicious, in the 20 days we spent on the island, not bored, but only enjoyed.
Service is high. Immediately after arriving on the island, you come under the personal care of a butler (here they are called GEM) and continue to enjoy a magnificent holiday without care. All possible problems will be solved for you. Due to the collapse in Dubai (we were flying Emirates), our suitcases only arrived for the 5th day of rest. The hotel made us clothes for free (shorts and a shirt for my husband and a dress for my mother and I) - thanks to the master! Also donated some pareos for the beach. By the way, shoes on the island are not needed at all - according to the hotel concept everyone walks barefoot (do not bring a suitcase of shoes!)
Important note: usually everyone tries to choose the side of the sunset for living. Here the side of the dawn is much better - the beach is better, there is no noise from jets and boats.
I want to point out one downside for objectivity. Our family flew back in different planes to different countries, the difference between the flights was four hours, but we were taken off the island at the same time. Usually other hotels provide their own longue near the airport to wait for the flight. Here we weren't given that opportunity, I had to buy a seat in the airport's communal longue, which was very crowded and hot and stuffy enough. For a 5-star hotel, that's a strange approach.
Often hotels send out questionnaires asking how much you enjoyed your holiday. It's convenient for anyone you want to thank in person. I didn't wait for that poll, so I'm writing here. I really want to personally thank the following hotel employees: first of all, of course, our assistant - the magician Jeanne, she brightened our holiday not only by working very professionally, but also by being a wonderful, soulful, benevolent person. We have been vacationing in Maldives for many years, visited many hotels, but we did not have such a beautiful assistant. Thank her so much! Also a huge thank you to the restaurant and bar staff: Ann - her kindness and smile filled us with joy every day, Shifau, Sushil Dahal, Bayu, Clovia (wonderful!), Jawad, Janara (a beautiful little flower - meteor). Special thanks to Chef Andrea, he prepared a great seafood lunch for us on his last day. It was very touching and very delicious.
The hotel will recommend to friends and plan to return here again as a family.

We visited Kanuhura shortly after it had reopened as the Six Senses. We have been scuba diving in the Maldives for 25 years, had visited the Lhaviyani Atoll in 2010 and wanted to return to see more of its underwater treasures. Kanuhura is uniquely located to give you access within 30 minutes to incredible channel dives (100 of sharks including schools of silver tips), a manta ray cleaning station, walls full of live and vibrant reefs. If you want to travel further afield, they run a 90 minute boat trip to the Noonu Atoll with its unspoilt reefs and walls. The dive operation is very well run, two large and comfortable dive boats, a large team enabling them to operate small groups of divers to provide brilliant service for beginners to experienced divers.
The Six Senses brand comes through strongly and everything it stands for. Accommodation is good but other resorts offer high spec rooms and villas.
Food is excellent, great choice of restaurants, very high quality and an extensive wine list. There was the odd wobble with service, but that was to be expected given the resort had just reopened.
Spa is good but the list of treatments is not as comprehensive as other resorts.
Overall worth an Excellent rating, as no resort in the Maldives is ever perfect.

Dear Martin S, Greetings from the sunny shores of Maldives! I trust this message finds you safe and well back home. I greatly appreciate the time you took to post this review and share your valuable feedback. We are extremely happy that we were able to provide you with an incredible diving experience and that your stay was overall excellent. Aside from the easy access to incredible channel dives, manta ray cleaning stations, and vibrant reefs, I completely agree that the location's proximity to Noonu Atoll, with its unspoiled reefs, adds to the overall appeal. Your kind comments regarding our dive team's dedication to providing brilliant service to both beginners and experienced divers are deeply appreciated. Thank you for sharing your positive feedback about the food quality, restaurant choices, and wine selection. However, I am very sorry to learn about the level of service that you received. Nevertheless, your overall assessment is insightful, highlighting that perfection can be elusive in the Maldives. We appreciate your understanding and rest assured, all the points mentioned in your comment are taken very seriously and will be discussed with the team as a learning point for improvement. Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts! It might be a little too early, but we look forward to having the privilege of welcoming you back soon. Best regards, Bryce Seator General Manager

Thank you Six Senses for a great experience ! Fantastic island, Amazing Beach Villas, more privacy for the beach villas on the windy side, with a very much needed breeze, great staff, one of the best main pools in the Maldives with a well stocked Bar, great cocktails and drinks there too.
Very wide beach, great waters. 5th time in the Maldives, one of our best experiences.
Stayed for 10 days and never seen a mosquito or roaches in the whole of the island. Well done !
A special mention for the room cleanliness, Absolutely Spotless !
Things to improve in my opinion : 1) just a bit more attention around the main pool regarding hygiene and cleanliness, especially the little side tables of the sunbeds and Gazebo and also look out for garbage and towels left/fallen behind the flowers/garden.
2) The food during the evening meals, although is good quality, needs more guidance through and better presentation and positioning and definitely the sweets need a fridge, you can not have for example mango panna cotta that ends up drinkable as a liquid because of the heat and lack of fridges !
Really considering to pay another visit if and when the food details improve.
Thank you All again for a fantastic and relaxing holiday !

Our trip to the Maldives in November 2023 to the newly opened Kanuhura, now under the management of Six Senses, was simply exceptional and unforgettable.
We stayed for 3 weeks and every day was a revelation of gorgeous nature, caring service and genuine smiles.
I have visited several islands in the Maldives, but Kanuhura is truly outstanding in every way!
The island itself is perfect, with a wonderful beach all around, which is almost unique in the Maldives.
There is also beautiful old vegetation with countless orchids.
Very comfortable, newly renovated or newly built, tasteful bungalows where you simply feel at home.
In addition to this perfect island, and the fantastic food, which leaves nothing to be desired, I would particularly like to mention the friendliness, the warmth and the great service.
The list of "good spirits" is long - very long, but I would like to mention a few here: JB, Brice, Thapa, Farooq, Aroon, Diba, Ann, Blackbird, Amilla, Quwan, Arshad and so many more.
All deserve to be mentioned and praised for their kindness, courtesy and helpfulness.
A special thank you also to the housekeeping staff who always went out of their way to make our beautiful water bungalow perfect and put special lactose free milk in the fridge for my daughter every day, in addition to the special goodies they surprised us with every day.
What else is there to say ..... except that everything was so perfect and so much better than we could have ever imagined.
We'll be back when life allows. That is our goal!
We are grateful that we chose Kanuhura.

We have just returned from a fabulous stay at the Six Senses Kanuhura and loved our special time there!
From the minute you arrive and are met on the jetty by Bryce the GM and his team who instruct you to take off your shoes and switch your phones to island time, you realise that you are in for a treat! A barefoot luxury stay on a very beautiful and special Island. We stayed in 2 over water villas which were very comfortable with lovely vistas out to sea. Our Guest Experience Maker (GEM) was Sammeh and he was a gem indeed! Nothing was too much trouble to organise. We loved riding around the island on our bikes - the ultimate freedom. Meals were delicious - we particularly loved the Spanish tapas and the Asian Market and the canapés at the cocktail party on the beach were delicious too. We enjoyed amazing cocktails in the pool, a spectacular scuba dive, incredible spa treatments and the five of us did our first aerial yoga class together which was one for the books! All in all memories to cherish forever on this beautiful island. At night the soft lights transform it into a truly romantic and special space. We left with happy hearts and want to thank the Kanuhura Family for going the extra mile for us, it was so appreciated.

After almost 1 ½ years of renovation, Kanuhura has reopened its doors in September.
We have been to Kanuhura many times, under One&Only, SunResort and now under Six Senses. We were very concerned about the renovation and the extent to which the interventions had affected the beautiful island. None of this has happened, you might think that it was not renovated at all, the nature of the island is completely undamaged. Only in the area of the former Veli restaurant and Iru Beach were 12 new villas and The Point / Sunset Point built. It will certainly take some time for the new plants to grow here.
Many new palm trees were planted to achieve natural shade.
The renovation of the existing villas was carried out with great professionalism. Some bathrooms now have a glass front, so the bathroom is also air-conditioned. The former veranda has been enclosed, with windows that can be opened all around. This means that you can sit "outside" even when it rains.
The area in front of the villas facing the beach has been given additional planting to provide greater privacy.
Most importantly, many former employees are still there under the excellent leadership of GM Bryce. The friendliness and professionalism of the staff is unmatched. The list of TOP employees is long.
There is still no Kanuhura lounge at the seaplane airport. Kanuhura uses the premium lounge of MantaAir, the new operator of the route to Kanuhura. Since MantaAir is a small airline, most flights are currently non-stop flights to and from Kanuhura. There are even two seaplanes with better seating than the standard variant.
With The Point restaurant, Kanuhura now has an excellent Spanish restaurant with great tapas under the leadership of Clovia and the chef Manuel. Opinions can differ about the appearance of this building. However, you have to acknowledge that it is a special construction, a pool on the first floor, where you can particularly enjoy the sunset at the bar when the sunset is reflected in the pool.
The Market restaurant (formerly Al Mano / Thin Rha) has been expanded and offers a buffet twice a week (Asian and BBQ), otherwise you can eat there a la carte.
The Sip&Sand bar continues to be run first-class by Sam and his team. There is also music in the evenings.
Water sports are run by the OCEAN company with the boss Lathee. The equipment is new and very extensive. There are all kinds of activities. A special experience is a sundowner tour on the large, new catamaran.
Kanuhura has retained its own style and has not adopted the classic Six Senses style. We would call it Modern Six Senses.

In December, we spent ten wonderful days at the SIX Senses Kanuhura. Apart from the very beautiful island, we most appreciated that the staff was extremely attentive. Everybody, from the GEM, restaurants, Spa, dive center, to housekeeping cared for our guest experience. Also, the public areas like the restaurants, Spa and Gym are very tasteful and convey the right vibe. Food among all restaurants was delicious, but for our taste not enough plant-based options. I also enjoyed some of the most amazing massages I have ever experienced. Diving spots are close by and offer a variety to explore the astonishing underwater world. The only point where we had higher expectations was in respect to privacy, given the standard rooms for two people are quite close to the neighboring rooms. Overall, we had a fantastic time and we still indulge in the beautiful memories. Thanks a lot Six Senses Kanuhura!

I’m delighted to hear that you enjoyed the beauty of the island and that our attentive hosts across various departments enhanced your stay. It's heartening to know that you found the public areas tasteful and in the right vibe. I'm thrilled to hear that you had amazing massages and had the opportunity to explore the underwater world with the conveniently located diving spots. The three of us and our son stayed in a beach villa with a pool on the sunrise side of the island. These villas are not new, but have been extensively renovated for the new opening under Six Senses and are extremely tastefully furnished. Our Villa 54 was next to the water villas, which didn't bother us in the slightest, as the view of the ocean was unobstructed. The beach in front of the door was wonderful and always well-kept, the lagoon around the island is suitable for swimming everywhere, even with small children.
As a lot has already been written, I would just like to briefly describe what makes Kanahura special: The island is large, incredibly green and wonderfully well-kept. The beach is all around the island, so you can walk around it. The view from the infinity pool of the Indian Ocean at sunset is almost magical, simply amazing. We were always treated with great friendliness, every employee knew our son by name within a very short time, even those who don't actually look after the guests directly. Ameen, our Guest Experience Maker (GEM), tried several times a day to find out what we wanted. He arranged the reservations for all activities and presented us with all the island has to offer. Once he picked up our son from the cinema as we were still in the restaurant. He was just incredibly accommodating and friendly.
The restaurant on the uninhabited island next door deserves special mention. This was a new experience for us.
While snorkeling we saw reef sharks, turtles and lots of fish, but the house reef can only be reached by boat (for a fee). You can also snorkel from the beach and see baby sharks, small rays and fish, but it's not comparable to the house reef as the water isn't deep enough there.
We enjoyed our vacation and hope to visit the island again.
