Detailed Reviews
We wanted to have a very Japanese experience while in Nara and booked one of their Japanese style rooms. Very nice room that was very clean and comfortable. They provide you with traditional Japanese robes to wear while you are in the hotel. Many people wear these to dinner/breakfast or just walking around the hotel. When we went out to dinner they came and transformed our room for sleeping by placing out the futon mats and pillows. Very nice to come back after dinner and have your room ready. They have an Onsen on site that you can use - one for women and one for men. This was very enjoyable after a long day hiking and hangin out with the deer.

We stayed here for the first time in 2011, and returned a few times. Location is perfect, service with class. Nara is being flooded by tourists nowadays, so the neighbourhood is busy, consider it lively and enjoy the many restaurants, bars and shops that have opened.

This was an incredible Ryokan, the staff were so friendly and helpful. The location was perfect, really close to the station and park and just around the corner from the market. The onsen was gorgeous and so relaxing. This has been our favourite place to stay so far on our trip. So glad we got to stay here and would love to come back sometime. Would highly recommend Kasuga Hotel to anyone.

Initially we were going to go to Nara for just a day trip from Kyoto but decided to stay overnight instead. I am so glad we did as I feel we really got a true feeling for this lovely city. We arrived via the JR line as we had a 7 day rail pass and this hotel was a quick 5 minute taxi ride from the station. The Kintetsu line is right next door.
They are very strict about the 3pm check in time but were more than happy to store our bags until then. On check in we were personally taken to our room where our bags already were and an attendant presented us with hot towels, green tea and yukata’s to wear for the hot baths. I guess this is why they want you to wait until 3pm so someone is available. It was a lovely introduction to the hotel.
We choose to stay in a traditional Japanese room - or should I say rooms – the suite was huge. It included an entry area, large 2 way bathroom, separate toilet, then you walked into a huge living area with tatami mat flooring and a low table. This turned into our sleeping area later for the three of us - we could have easily fit three more people. There was also another room where our bags were and a sitting area with low chairs and the foot massager. A lovely range of Shiseido toiletries were provided.
The Wi-Fi was excellent and easy to set up. There was a TV but no English TV stations.
Sleeping on the floor on tatami mats was a fun experience but I am glad it was only for one night! I must admit too I did get an extra mat out of the wardrobe!
We enjoyed the hot baths – which for me were thankfully segregated into male and female areas. There were 3 baths – one that looked like an indoor pool, a waterfall one and an outdoor pool that looked like a rock pool. It was wonderful. The area again was fully equipped with toiletries, soaps, towels and hair dryers.
As others have said the staff were wonderful and did their best to ensure we had a great stay. Providing ice in buckets for our drinks, restaurant recommendations and a late check out were all part of the great service.
The location of the hotel for access to the park and deer’s could not be better plus close to a shopping precinct with lovely old streets to wander and lots of places to eat. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here for a lovely Japanese’s experience in Nara

Pros:-
1) Superb Location
- 5 min walk from the Kintetsu Nara Station which we arrived at from Kyoto.
- Higashimuki Shopping Arcade is just next to the Kintetsu Nara Station, and you'll find shops, cafes, restaurants, a supermarket, Daiso, and a big drugstore amongst other things.
2) Wonderful service staff
- We checked in on the actual day of my birthday and we got a free room upgrade. They also gave us complimentary alcoholic drinks during dinner at the hotel. That truly made my birthday special and memorable!
3) Well-kept hotel grounds
- The lobby, dining area, rooms, corridors were all very well-kept without any strong odours or worn-out interior like some other ryokans we've been to in Japan
- The public bath was of a reasonable size with an indoor and outdoor pool
4) Good food
- We enjoyed dinner and breakfast that we paid for with our room reservation. I was a bit disappointed that the other 2 tables got beef while we got chicken & fish for dinner.
5) Free wi-fi
- We didn't have to use any login or password and wi-fi worked well in the room.
Cons:-
Can't think of any!
I highly recommend this ryokan hotel. It's one of the better ones I've stayed at that didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

We stayed at the Kasuga Hotel for one night whilst visiting the temples and other sites of Nara. The hotel has a great location in the real heart of Nara just 100m from the Kintetsu Nara railway station. It is located next to the main shopping area and is very close to many of the main attractions in Nara.
It is presented as a Japanese style hotel, and clearly it caters principally for Japanese tourists or others seeking a Japanese experience. After a previous three nights sleeping on futons in Kyoto we opted for one of the few western style rooms. It was very small, however, it was clean contained two reasonable beds, and a bathroom with shower. There was no view from our room.
We arrived at just before noon, but were not allowed to check in until the official check in time of 3.00 pm (those are the rules and this is Japan). We received a welcome cup of tea brought to the room upon arrival.
I am sure this is a better hotel for those wanting to choose a Japanese style room - but if you want beds, probably best to try another hotel.

During my travel in Japan, this turned out to be my favorite hotel. I loved it. The staff was very helpful. I felt their concern was sincere and motivated by a desire that I have a good experience. It was a very "Japanese" experience, but at the same time they were eager to accommodate my particular needs that often draw blank expressions from some other hotels. (Example: one futon is not enough padding, so they eagerly put two down for me.) The dining was really rather tasty. The public bath was the best I experienced in Japan. Really nice. I could get addicted to that! The location was wonderful. Within a few hundred meters is a covered shopping arcade that goes on and on for what seem forever. Really an amazing experience. Go the other direction and you find yourself in a tranquil park with wonderful temples, shrines, and museums of Buddhist art that is a real find.

Stayed for 4 nights. Loved the location which is a few minutes walk from that Kintetsu train station (you can get a rapid train to Kyoto in 35 mins from there) as well as other parts of Nara city & Kobe. It is also a short walk to the start of Nara Park & right in the thick of shops & restaurants. A friendly greeting from staff was standard every time we returned to the hotel. The room itself was nice & roomy. There was a mini fridge, kettle, tea & coffee supplies, a tv (all Japanese language), 2 sitting chairs, & a small coffee table. Requested an iron with ease. Found this hotel very comfortable & would return. They offer breakfast however I never tried it preferring to dine out in the many Nara eateries.

We rolled into Nara late in the evening and after looking at several hotels we found the Kasuga Hotel, The rooms were incredible. Spacious, pressed robes, slippers, huge bathroom, toilets with a control panel similar to a spacecraft, foot message machine, safes, sewing supplies, free parking, on and on. They have a communal sauna which we did not use as it was so late. In the morning we were happily surprised to find out that we were only a couple of blocks from the Nara Deer Park. We could have walked there had we known. Great boutique hotel for a very reasonable price. When you check in a person goes to the room with you to give you a tour of everything. that was a first in our travels.

This hotel is near Kintetsu station; this line has fastest connection to Kyoto. JR station is farther away. The rooms are spacious with very well equiped bathroom in addition to public bath. The beds are excellent. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Upon arrival and every evening when we returned from a day walking they awaited us with hot towel and special green tea. The breakfast is Japanese only. But there are ample shops where you can buy excellent food. Near the hotel there is a specialist in Japanese masage; very helpful.

Sorry for my late reply : I was travelling in Japan !
The hotel will not turn you away for lodging but there might be a problem using the onsen. You can try to find a moment where there are no other people in the onsen, or if you have only a small tattoo : cover it with the small towel they offer : this is what my Japanese friend does. enjoy
Good evening.
We are afraid a person with tatoo is not allowed to take our public bath, because other Japanese guests feel uncomfortable.
Hi, good afternoon. We have a Western or Japanese room for 2 adults and 1 baby.
There will be no charge for your baby if he sleeps with the parents and doesn't need any meals.
