This was an unusual designed hotel located adjacent to the train station. It may have been converted to a hotel as the hallways were quite wide with rectangular decorative blocks in the center. Lots of unused space.

Check in was via a kiosk. Passport scanned, payment collected and key dispensed and at checkout the key returned to the machine.

Amenities were located in the lobby that included toiletries, bath bubbles and teas.

Our room was a double bed with enough room to walk around and store our luggage. Bathroom required a step up but at least was roomy. However, the main complaint was even with all the lights on the room was still dark.

The gym continued to reflect the strange layout of the hotel with an angled wall separating the cardio from weights. The nice part was that it overlooked the Shinkansen tracks so we could watch them zoom by during the workout. There were just three old style Precor weight machines for abs, legs and chests. These adjustment levers were not what I have used ever.

The lounge was located in the fifth floor and available to all guests. Free coffee was available from a coffee machine but it seems to be watered down.

If one chose a room rate wit breakfast then it was located next to the front desk. On the same floor was a couple of other restaurants from the mall including Minmin gyoza and more heading towards the station.

For the price and convenience not a bad stay.

Location: under 2 min walk from JR Utsunomiya, just turn right upon leaving station west exit.
Rooms: almost brand new, spotless, with all modern comforts and larger than usual Jap business hotels. Beds were also comfortable. Staff were efficient, and breakfast was delicious.
I stayed at this hotel for my 2 days Nikko trip, and it's 43 min 682 JPY train ride (once per hour) one way to Nikko. It's a cheaper + more comfortable + surrounded by many shopping and dining options. Nikko is very quiet at night.

I really liked this hotel for the following reasons:
1. Very very clean because it was opened just several months ago.
2. Very conveninet because it is directly connected to the Utsunomiya station.
3. Like an art museum. There were displays of local crafts and artifacts in hallways. They are well incorporated into an artistic and modern way. Walls and floors are made out of local unique stone and it gives a calm and museum like atmosphere. There was a lounge with quite high ceiling where you can relax with some books, newspapers, magazines, PCs, sofas & coffee.
4. Affordable ! Much better than half-baked well known chain hotels, where what you get do not match with what you pay.
5. On the lobby floor, there is a hotel's Italian (?) restaurant (by the way, this is also a place for breakfast) and they served very good food in my personal opinion.
6. Breakfast: Three options of set meals ( Japanese, western or Chinese) with buffet style side dishes. So it was not a typical breakfast of bread, bacon & egg and yogurt, which I personally do not prefer, but it was nuturitional breakfast with many ingredients. Side dishes are the ones that would take time & efforts to cook at home (for example, hijiki seaweed, cooked lotus root and yam potatoes, sticks of sweet potatoes deep-fried and then caramelized, etc on the days I stayed.)

In summary, I was very statisfied and I wish to request my company to use this hotel next time again.

I stayed at the R-Mets for 2 nights in late November. There is a lot to do around the hotel! There is lots of shopping and food nearby. The hotel has some different and interesting décor. My friend and I stayed in a double room. It’s a decent sized room and was very clean. The bathroom was pretty standard, similar to a standard one in the US – I wished it was a little bigger, but it wasn’t a problem by any means. It felt very clean as well. The staff was nice and helped me call the airline when my flight was cancelled, I really appreciated that. The breakfast area is pretty small. The breakfast included with the room is not nearly enough food for a good breakfast. I don’t eat pork/sausage, so that made my breakfast even smaller. I think the hotel needs to improve their breakfast offering. Other than that, I don’t have any complaints. It was a good short stay at this hotel.

Adjoining the Utsunomiya JR station, location is excellent.

I had a JR pass so I really want to stay close to a JR Shinkansen station, and travel to other prefecture depending on weather(it was raining in many cities) and fall color reports. Utsunomiya was quite a good choice since it's not too far away from Tokyo (when wether in the north was not good, I went south to Tokyo, which take 45min by Shinkansen) and also easy to go to Nikko or norther prefectures.

The interior design of common area is stylish and modern, and I really like it. The room was new, very clean, with free and good WiFi for each room (different SSID for each room, theoretically a little safer, if anyone cares), and is more spacious than most hotel you could find in big cities like Tokyo/Osaka...so I could place my notebook there and use it comfortably. Maybe it would be a little better if the rooms have a bath (which I might or might not use, but I would apprecitae that option).

Booking via their own web-stie is more expensive than if you just walk in (I realised that when I extended my stay), that was upsetting.

Breakfast is ok, the offer 3 choices... western , chinese and japanese breakfast. There are good restaurants nearby, and since Utsunomiya is famous for Japanese dumping, you could find many dumping shops around the station. You can have easy access to restaurants, departments stores and convenience stores even when the weather is bad.

There is a chain budget hotel (good and reliable one) nearby, which cost much less, but the location is not as convenience (but still good).

Nice hotel, fairly new construction. The rooms are comfortable, though keeping an appropriate temperature through the night can be tough. The hotel is connected to the train station, and some of the restaurants are open late - so that's nice after a long day.

The fitness center is a nice space, but very sparsely equipped: 2 bikes, an elliptical and 3 treadmills, and three Precor machines.

Breakfast from 6:30, gives time to catch a 7:00 bus to work. I haven't made it back in time for happy hour...

The room was very clean and modern, albeit small compared to a US hotel. My room had a flat screen TV which I did not use, an air purifier, desk, ironing board and small fridge. The tiny closet could use more hangers as mine only had 4. The heat/AC unit was controlled by a remote which had no English instructions. I had to call the front desk to get an instruction card, but after a couple days I was able to control the temperature decently. The bed was comfortable with both feather pillow and a memory foam one to choose from. The room was very quiet and I was not disturbed by any joining rooms or from above.

The bathroom was tiny but had a huge tub to soak in if you wanted to. Plenty of extra amenities were included such as q-tips, toothbrush and toothpaste and a cheap razor and hairbrush.

There was a laundry which was kind of expensive and you had t bring your own detergent. Their was also a fitness center in the building.

Hotel staff was friendly but mainly spoke Japanese.

The included breakfast was good but lacked variety. During my 2 week stay their was only 3 choices Japanese, Western and Chinese
