This hotel was a real find. Rooms were spacious and thoughtfully designed, dinner was delicious to our Asian palate, shared bath even had kids' water toys! But what made the place really shine was the staff - I called them w/o a reservation to ask if they could pick our luggage (we were hoping to hike before our check-in), and the staff made it happen. Only later did we realize that we should have asked for these things ahead. Would highly recommend for those embarking on a trip to the Alpen Route.

This is one of the best hotel I have ever stayed. Its room is big and spacious, nicely organized with tatami beds. The hot spring is also great with both indoor and outdoor. It is conveniently located near to the tateyama station.

Love the sauna cubicle in a big onsen. Great kaiseki elaborate meals and good service from staff who explained the dishes. Very spacious room with great view. Nice surrounding with a nice snow scene nearby.

Stayed a nite here prior to Tateyama Alpine Route the next day. Hotel provide free shuttle bus to & from Tateyama station. Nice & spacious hotel lobby feel relax & welcome. Get to choose your yukata for onsen :) at hotel lobby after check-in. Onsen facilities is very modern with few pools indoor & 1 outdoor. Dinner is awesome with wide varieties of food. After dinner, went hotel lounge, relax & nice ambience with free coffee tea & juice :) Breakfast has wide choice of Japanese style vegetables which I love, wish could have more time to enjoy breakfast but need to rush for first cable car. Overall, comfortable nice stay! & a good choice to stay a nite here so can utilize the next full day for Tateyama! Thanks to hotel staff managed to change our western room booking to Japanese style room :)…

The property seems new or recently renovated. The dinner and breakfast were substantial and tasty. The Japanese style room had a mattress on the floor which was very comfortable. Like many others, we stayed here before traversing the Tateyama-Kurobe alpine route. The surrounding area was very quiet, probably because it was not winter; where it looks like there is a ski slope not far from the hotel. There is shuttle service to and from Tateyama station.

My family of 4 stayed in Mori no Kaze Hotel Tateyama for two nights in August 2017. We chose this hotel for its proximity to the Mount Tate. The hotel building was rather massive though a bit aged. The hotel staff were courteous and commanded simple English. We chose our yukatas opposite to the reception. Our triple room was very spacious and clean, overlooking a beautiful forest view. It was a smoking room but no cigarette scent was noticed. I was a shallow sleeper and still found the room as absolutely quiet at night. The beds were really comfortable and we all slept well. I have booked a buffet plan but the hotel could only provide Japanese set dinner in both evenings. The first dinner was rather small however. The second one served local specialties of shrimps and squid and was much better. A small sweet and tea buffet was available in a lounge. The hotel arranged game activities (bingo games in our first night; fireworks in the second) for hotel guests in evening, though we had not joined. The hotel onsen included several indoor pools and an outdoor pool, and the atmosphere was really relaxing. There was a big game room on ground floor for children and my daughters enjoyed it. Free shuttle bus service to the Tate cable car station was available. There were ample free parking spaces for hotel guests. It should note that the hotel appears a rather remote mountain resort, and not even a convenient store can be found within a walking distance. Nevertheless its comfortable and relaxing environment plus convenience to the Tateyama region are the major advantages. In short, Mori no Kaze Hotel Tateyama is an excellent base for travelers exploring the Tateyama Alpine Route and should be recommended. …

This hotel is the perfect location if you are planning to do the Alpine route. The hotel bus will pick you up at the station and return you when you leave. The style is charming: when you check-in, you walk over and choose your Japanese bathrobe (Yukata) and are taken up to a western style or Japanese style room. There is a large onsen or hot springs bath. One side is for men and one side is for women. There are five large tubs, and Jacuzzi, and an outdoor hot springs bath. This was a highlight! Took 3 baths in 18 hours!! You lie in the Hot Springs water and look out over the mountains. There is a set buffet for dinner and breakfast, with a combination of Western and Japanese style food. Everything is posted in English and easy to undertand. Free wifi everywhere in the hotel. They will ship your luggage to the other end of the Alpibe route so you can hike unencumbered. Great experience!…

I only booked the hotel last minute due to some uncertainties in my trip. I was deciding between business hotel in Toyama, onsen ryokan in Unazuki or something on Tateyama as part of my Alpen Route trip. At the end I picked this one so I can kick off my Tateyama Kurobe journey as early in the morning as possible. It's actually already 1-hour train journey from Toyama to Tateyama and trains are not that frequent. The hotel is not particularly good value considering it only provides limited service compared to other traditional onsen ryokans I've stayed at but they are in the similar price range. However the location is perfect (5 mins pick up service to/from Tateyama Station), I did only book it the night before, and I stayed in a "suite" on the "executive floor" (nothing impressive though). Onsen: While not a big fan of public bath myself, I did use it twice during my stay. The best part was the outdoor onsen, which surprisingly not many people use. I would not recommend the rental onsen because I believe it's indoor only so it's not really worth it. It was drizzling when I used the onsen so it's actually quite lovely and romantic! Food: There was some good food at the dinner but it's below par of what I would expect from a "1 stay 2 meals" plan. The Toyama steak was good. Sashimi was fresh from the local area but nothing wowed me. Breakfast was served buffet style and quite ordinary for a Japanese hotel breakfast. Both meals are served at restaurants instead of in your room. Room: I had a separate bedroom in the suite I stayed at, however the AC only works in the living room so it's very warm at night! With that said, I am still glad I picked this hotel over the other because it was still quite rush for me to complete the entire Alpen Route the next day! I only barely met the last bus to Shinanoomachi and I was too late to do the sightseeing boat by the time I got to Kurobe. Unless you stay at a hotel on the mountain (which was not an option for me on that particular day), I would recommend you considering Mori no Kaze.…
