This hostel is located centrally and has decent mattresses but that's about the only positive factor.

Staff seemed unaware of which beds were occupied, advertised wifi was nonexistent, lockers were tiny (too small to store a computer) and the place took "social" to the next level-- I woke up to a couple having sex in the bed next to me.

If you're looking for a party hostel, this is your place. But I've stayed at plenty of low-end hostels and met plenty of awesome people with whom to travel and share stories without giving up a base level of privacy.

Arrived in Luang Prabang after a long bus ride from Vientiane. Locals know where this guesthouse is. Therefore, it is easy when you take a tuk tuk from the bus station. Night market is 5 minutes walk away, and everything else is within walking distance.

We booked a room on our own for 3 person, and the room is of decent size. A lady who spoke minimum proper English came to our room with a map, and pointed out places of interest and food areas. Hostel have got tours that you can join. We wanted to join the tour to Pak Ou cave and Kuangsi Waterfall, but thought it was slightly expensive. The staff gave us an alternative to take a tuk-tuk to the slow boat area, and we can get our tickets there, which was a lot cheaper. We walked to the main road, and got a tuk-tuk at 15000 kip to the slow boat area for 3 pax. There were a lot of people waiting at the slow boat area when we arrived. We booked our bus tickets from LP to Vang Vieng from the hostel.

Breakfast was decent, and the staff will come over to the room to take our order.

It was really cold when we arrived, and the room have got no heater. Had a fever the very night when we arrived. But other than that, everything else was alright. Would come back again, as long as it is not during cold season.

Very nice staff, dorm rooms are clean and the area is very cool. Location perfect, just around the corner of the night market. Staff is happy to organise trips for you and transfers to other cities (prices are reasonable).

Travelled on my own to Laos and stayed here for 3 nights. The best place I've stayed in SEA thus far. Amazing staff, clean, well priced, central, safe and there's a great community vibe here. The owners are amazing and super helpful. Would DEFINITELY recommend.

We pre booked a dorm for two night via hostel world, therefore paying a deposit online. We arrived at the hostel only to find that although she had received the information from hostel world she 'forgot' to book us a room and they were now full! She then began to laugh. We asked her to ring another hostel that some friends were staying at and she informed us that they were also full, however her cousin has a hostel for us to stay in. Not convinced, we rang our friends who told us there plenty of room available with them.

Extremely disappointed!
Do not give them any money before you arrive!

When we arrived in LP we had booked one night at a guesthouse for 160,000kip to make sure we had a place to start from. We quickly discovered many guesthouse offering a roof for less than 100,000 kip/night.
We decided to lower our standard to save a bit, especially since we don't spend much time in the room. For 80,000LK you expect less but at least you want a decent bed and bathroom, this Khounsavan room (no94) is not what we got...
Walls are just dirty with stains, very very old beds, hard as rock, dusty and smelly, uncomfortable old lumpy pillows.
When I woke up, I couldn't breathe anymore, my nose was stuck cause of dust allergies, no kidding!
We had booked ahead for 3 nights which was a mistake, but since we don't like to move everyday I guess it's a chance we took...
Private bathroom very basic, no shelf to leave a soap and toothbrush.
No room to unpack.
Hot water provided upon request.
Kind of nice balcony with chairs (nice place since you don't want to spend time in the bedroom).
Quiet street, not to far fro night market and town center.

You can find better, just look around!

Room Tip: Rooms with AC are not worth it since there is so many offering better for same price (120 000kip).

My least favourite hostel in a months travels. We arrived and got given a bed which was already occupied. I told the girl on the desk and she argued with me that it was free for about ten mins before taking me up and seeing that it was indeed occupied. That room (4 bed dorm) was tiny. Not really enough space for everyone to comfortably keep their bags etc. Also no lockers in the rooms. The lockers are outside and have keys provided by the hostel. Doesn't feel very secure.
The toilets and showers are downstairs and we were upstairs. It means going through a crowd of people to get to the toilets at night. Also if you want them in the middle of the night it's a bit to walk. Would be better if there were some upstairs too.
The air con on the rooms is switched off at 10am and only switched back on at 8pm. First room (4 bed) had a fan so not too bad. Second room (8 bed) didn't. So it wasn't really possible to be in the rooms without being really hot when the air con is off. Seems tight when you are paying. The only hostel I've known with thus policy.
Beds were pretty comfy and the location is good. Close to the night market. If we can find a better place we will move. But it seems like Luang Prabang is short on decent inexpensive accommodation.
Few bugs in the room but the hostel seems otherwise clean.
Good social vibe downstairs but you can hear that from your room. So depends if you want to get involved wether that's positive or negative. I could sleep, but if you're a light sleeper probably not ideal.

We spend 4 nights in the Kounsavan last October.
Great guesthouse, they have private rooms with balcony where you can have breakfast every morning with views to Mount Phousi.
Breakfast is included in the private rooms and extra for the dorms.
The private rooms are big and clean and they have the best shower in SE Asia.
The staff and owners are very nice and helpful. They can arrange everything for you there.
Good and quite location, very close to everything in town and only one street from the night market.

This is run by a lovely vietnamese family. Located close to ahops and less than 5 mins to the night market. Breakfast is great - you have 5 choice and all are closed fresh and well. I loved the banana pancake and scrambled eggs! The rooms are clean, with a/c. Bathrooms and toilets are clean- lovely hot showers. There are lockers in the reception which are free. Wifi only at reception and was only ok can be a bit temperamental but not a big deal. Staff so friendly I would stay again!

My friend and I spent four nights at this amazing hostel. A new management has taken the place just recently and it is noticeable (for the good). Word of mouth of this place had been spreading around Laos significantly. 10 people traveling in our bus (out of maybe 15) decided to stay here and we were all extremely satisfied with our experience. Two (I believe that is how the owner/front desk woman is called) is just amazing. Her english is perfect and she is very, very nice. There is no way of going wrong at this place.

hi there, thanks for your review - any idea how i can book a room here through the hotel? Thanks

You could just turn up or book ahead if you prefer. I would suggest turning up and checking out the room or bed in dorm first or booking one or two nights and keeping your options open.
