We had the pleasure of staying at San Rafael for a week with family and friends March 1-8 2023. This is our second time at San Rafael - we made the mistake of not booking through a weekend in Feb 2020 and as a result missed out on the incredible Lenten procession held on Sundays between Ash Wednesday and Easter. For those who have never been to San Rafael before, it's a small boutique hotel - 7 rooms, I think, centrally located near the arch that you see in many pictures of Antigua. Our group was comprised of 7 people and we booked 4 rooms. The only word I can think of to describe the rooms is that they are all stunning in both size and detail. Each room is unique and incredibly detailed with working fireplaces and glorious bathrooms. The beds are grand and comfortable and each room is set up with sitting areas facing the fireplaces. Our rooms all faced out onto the courtyard which is beautifully landscaped with Cypris, Ficus and fountains as well as flowering plants in pots and plenty of fresh cut flower arrangements. Vines in full bloom snake down from the second level deck. The hotel also features exquisite original artwork both under the porticos which surround the courtyard and also inside each room. As wonderful as the hotel itself is the staff ensures your stay is perfect. They are friendly and extremely attentive. The front desk is more than happy to help with advising on any aspect of your stay - from places to dine, to museums, to the best and safest places to hike. Breakfast is included with your stay and we got to try the entire menu and it was really hard to pick a favorite dish - the San Rafael special is amazing (poached eggs with pesto), the omelet (fantastic!) is tender and done to perfection and please do not miss out on the French toast which is crisp but by no means greasy or heavy - and the potatoes which come with most meals are out of this world. Fresh fruit and juice accompany every breakfast as well as glorious Guatemalan coffee (the beans come from the nearby coffee plantation). Everything is freshly prepared and served by the wonderful kitchen staff. Many people dine outside their rooms but our group was able to use the expansive dining room which as you'd expect is decorated with more beautiful artwork (check out the painting of St Raphael!) and a gorgeous fireplace. Just lovely! I could go on and on about what a great time each and every one of us had but I will leave this review simply saying we are counting the days until we return. There are still many secrets yet to be uncovered in Antigua and I can assure you that while we are seeking them out we will be calling San Rafael "home" once again!…
Great hotel, highly recommended. This place is worth every penny. Beautiful boutique hotel in Antigua with a great location. The rooms and the courtyard were exceptional, it really was a pleasure to stay here and we wish we could have stayed longer.
This hotel is clean and beautiful. It has a great central location yet it was very quiet at night. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good. It’s the best hotel I stayed in Guatemala.
This is our 2nd time staying at the San Raphael hotel, conveniently located in the center of Antigua. It is a very clean, quiet, comfortable, and beautiful ground floor hotel. The rooms are spacious with very comfortable beds and sofas, and have generously sized vanities and bathrooms. The inner coutyard is like a sactuary with fountains and maintained gardens, surrounded by quiet sitting areas to read, or enjoy breakfast. All breakfast choices are delicious. They serve coffee, tea, fresh hot rolls, fresh fruit, and juice. Among the many menu choices are omlettes or pouched eggs and both come with crispy potato hash browns, or refried beans, yogurt with fruit and granola, french toast, waffles, pancakes, bagels, and croissant. Everything is freshly made and cooked to perfection. The staff is so gracious and accommodating. Staff are welcoming, they arrange car service, reservations, make recommendations for restaurants, excursions, etc. You will love it here!…
We recently returned from Antigua where we have been a number of times before. The San Rafael Hotel caught my eye on the internet because it looked beautiful and I knew was perfectly located to explore all the sites. All did not disappoint but excelled our expectations. The small hotel ( 7 rooms), luscious garden courtyard, very spacious rooms, tranquility and delicious made to order breakfasts on your schedule were outstanding. One of the nicest places we have stayed in all our travels. The staff was exceptional; Marco arranged transportation for us when we needed it with excellent drivers and cars, Rolando was so accommodating and on his suggestion made us a fire in our room our last evening. I couldn't recommend a place to stay more highly. Susan
We stayed there for 3 nights during our Honeymon. The room was clean, the staff available and kind, and we felt safe. Really nice location, right beside the arch. Nothing negative to say about this place. It was quiet, peaceful. The breakfasts were really good as well. Worth every penny. Highly recommend!
Wonderful 2 night stay! BEAUTIFUL property with colorful artwork, a lush garden, and tasteful interior design. I loved lounging in the provided robe by the fire place. The breakfast options are fantastic. Having breakfast in the courtyard outside of your room feels like a retreat. Nice staff, friendly smiles whenever you encounter them. Honestly, I would come back to Antigua just to stay here again.
So lovely and accommodating. Beautiful, quaint. Top of the line customer service - there is no customer service and hospital better than this place. I loved the court yard, the flowers. Location was great with lots of major attractions nearby, easy to walk. Really nice showers.
My wife and I stayed here for two nights recently. We stayed in a junior suite that was spacious and nicely appointed. We were able to get a two English language news channels which was a nice surprise. The hotel is located near the Arch and is close to various bars and restaurants. It has 2 beautiful inner courtyards that are well maintained. Breakfast was included and was very good. Breakfast normally starts at 7:00 am. They were nice enough to serve us early on our final day since we were leaving early. On the downside, we did not have internet in our room. We didn’t mention the problem until we checked out so they may have fixed the issue after our departure, Also, the checkout process was poor. They called our room and woke us up to see if we wanted to check out since we were leaving early the next morning. (We passed.) It then took about 15 minutes the next morning to check out because they had messed up our bill. Overall, though, we were quite pleased with the hotel and would definitely stay here again.…
What a stunning little Hotel! We were only there 3 nights but we loved it. Loved our room, the courtyard, the staff, the breakfast. It was just a charming and wonderful little hotel. Perfect location - so close to all the sights and best restaurants. I can not recommend it highly enough.
