Stayed for 7 nights. The positive is it's location, next to the ocean (although no steps to get down the eroded edges to the beach), the Cocos Club, airport and the limited eating venues of the island. And staff eventually warmed to us, and us to them.
The negatives include, poor cleaning, although mostly daily swept out. Our first room was ant infested, although apparently checked that morning. The rooms are not renovated...even though their website states they are. Many have stained cushions on chairs, old thru the wall airconditioning, peeling wood on the bathroom cabinets, and curtains so grimy they could stand on their own. And the salt air has corroded the aluminium windows so they don't want to open/close.
Even though the sheets might have had a stain, they were clean, although not changed during our 7 night stay. Towels were changed if requested.

I stayed here and the room is clean and serviced daily by friendly ladies. They are a little older but no issue for us. We ate in other areas until we discovered the great deals and freshness of food here. The lunch specials you need to pre order but great deal for island prices, the breakfast was great and in comparison to the price of the opposition much better option! Do yourself a favour and give the food a try, suited us much better after a few bad experiences.

Our accommodation was average, but convenient to airport. I reported a running toilet, but this was not fixed. Windows did not open, and curtains could not be pulled to let in light.A few crawlies too.
Ferry took us to Home Island where we visited the Clunes -Ross homestead, now a b and b. Very interesting.
Beyond Home Island is another ferry trip to Diirection Island.
Lots of Hermit Crabs. Boards along the walk around the Island told the story of WW1 battle between HMAS Sydney and German warship Emdem. Superb Beach and the finest sand I have ever seen. If you miss your return ferry, it is 2 weeks til the next!
Recommend touring with a group, as you will see lots more.
Recommend touring Christmas Island as well.

We knew it would be basic motel accommodation when we booked but were pleasantly surprised. Rooms were very spacious, clean, nice towels and bedding.

There is a small fridge, microwave, kettle with tea/coffee and sugar provided. Mugs and wine glasses as well.

Staff were very helpful at all times and the location of the rooms right next to the ocean was magic! It was perfect to sit outside and drink coffee each morning watching the turtles in the ocean.

We loved our stay here and would stay again.

Stayed for a week with a big group and was disappointed with the state of the Motel. The rooms are tired and shabby and in dire need of a make over. The room I stayed in, the block out curtain on the door going out to the beach front was stuck to the glass. The bedside lamp had not been cleaned on so long, that not only had the dust stuck to it but there were cobwebs on it as well. The food served in the dining room was average. The whole facility is falling apart and just some basic maintenance would help.

There are not a lot of choices of accommodation on the Cocos Islands. Home Island has about 6 B&Bs/ Cabins and 1 Motel. The Motel is the cheapest and is run down. Very hard to do an accurate comparison prior to arrival - but make sure you check inclusions and deals before you book. Some of the other accomm has self contained facilities which means you can do your own cooking - take your own food from Perth.

The motel has microwave, kettle and the normal basics. It also has the only restaurant on the island - offering all main meal times. There is also a cafe on the island offering breakfast and lunch (closed Saturday). All food on the island is expensive whether you buy at the shop or eat out. Pick and choose and there are some bargains. Eg Buffet dinner at night at the restaurant is great value for the big eating men. Fresh bread from the store is delicious and priced as mainland.

All motel rooms are aircon (box) and ensuite and are furnished in a very basic fashion. Bathrooms very basic and tired. Double bed (not queen), bedside table, with 2 chairs and small table in main area. Outside there are sun lounges and picnic tables and chairs in various states of repair. Every accomm block had tarps on the roof and badly needed work both exterior and interior. Lots of rust, heavily marked paint work, worn upholstery (but the sheets were clean each day) - and that's inside :/

But the view and beach access was amazing. We watched turtles grazing on sea grass as we had our sundowners each evening. We walked down and along the beach immediately below our room and could walk across to the pub in about 12 seconds :)

If we were to return we would stay in one of the self contained cabins. Better fit out, cleaner, better maintained, but not necessarily immediate beach front...

Wasn't expecting much staying here but was pleasantly surprised. Location is right by the water. If you enjoy the sound of waves crashing it's a harmonious nights sleep. Beds were comfy, aircon is as cold as ya like. A little lounge area for abit of tv chilling if ya like. A great little place to stay

It took me 3 nights to accept the continuous noise of the ocean100metres from my bedroom window - after I allowed it into my mind I settled and had the most amazing dreams and deepest sleeps. The Hotel Motel is just that, but its location would be the most desirable on the West Island. Walking distance to all amenities required for a cold beer, magnificent eating houses and a game of golf. This motel is comfortable without being deluxe, it was clean, spacious enough for 2 people and with Tea and Coffee facilities, TV, fridge and deck chairs, I found this to be enough to unwind and accept for $150.00 per night, it's not a bargain but affordable.

Our third visit to Cocos Keeling, staying at the same location. Very annoyed to be charged virtually double the price quoted in an e-mail for our stay - not good. Since being rebranded as the 'Cocos Beach Resort' (instead of 'Cocos Beach Motel'), prices have increased sharply with little real improvement in quality or service.
I would not recommend staying at this resort - although on Cocos there is no real competition and only a few alternatives.....

Having stopped here many times over the years it was always cheap and cheerful, staff were wonderful, but now for some reason it it now plastered with religious literature in the rooms pointing to Mecca, I now feel extremely uncomfortable staying there, I appreciate they would prefer visitors from Malaysia, but they clearly don't wish to have western visitors anymore, but I would look now at other alternate options when staying on the island.

Hi Trish. There are not a lot of places on Cocos with sea views but all accommodation is so close to the beach, you can grab a chair and a coffee and won't be disturbed by anyone. All accommodation is central to the supermarket, airport, club, cafe, visitors centre etc. so is an easy walk for most. You will need a vehicle to get to places such as Yacht Club on the southern part of West Island, Trannies beach on the northern part of West island and the ferry jetty which is also to the north of West Island settlement. Staying at the Cocos beach Motel is cheapest but it is very basic, asbestos wall type buildings, like some of the buildings in Christmas island. You would have to ask if they have bathtubs. It is pretty basic accommodation but Tropika restaurant does really tasty food.
