Positives Staff, location, cleanliness, great roof bar, food quality, Negatives If you can get to sleep by 2am any night then congratulations. I like a bar. But if the philosophy is to rev it up 7 nights a week & shake the building, then at least look at some sound proofing. At the weekend they also open the basement night club, and let in anyone, residents, non-residents You might as well have your bed on the pavement outside.... The free earplugs don't cut it I'm afraid.
Positives: the place is really trendy, the staff were super friendly and spoke great English, there are two good restaurants on site, there's a rooftop pool/restaurant/bar that has beautiful views, and the suite we rented was cute. Also in a great location for walking around the old town. Negatives: there was a stair door outside of our room that slammed every time someone used it, which was a lot and all thru the night. And for some reason, there was a strong smell of raw sewage wafting into our room late night- we were on the 5th floor with our windows closed, so not sure where it was coming from. And finally, our king bed, although comfy, was squarely underneath the AC, which meant we had a cold wind in our face. The first night we slept on the bed with our heads at the foot of the bed, but I woke up with a sore throat, so the second night we just moved the mattress to the floor. All in all, it's a pretty decent find for budget-conscious visitors... but for a bit more, you could definitely find nicer rooms in the area.…
We arrived on the 3d of February, our room was a 100 dollars which is so expensive for the room we got and we didn’t even got a room that looked like what we took on the pictures. It was dirty, super noisy until very late at night. Some guys were drinking booze in the common kitchen and yelling until really late. We tried to change and we were willing to pay for an upper category but the girl at the front desk told us there was no other room in a better category… I checked on the internet… and of course a better room was available… The common bathroom was dirty as well. I highly recommend you to find an other place to sleep !
We didn’t stay here and I’m not sure we’d have used the rooftop pool as much as we did at the place where we did stay, but Selina in Casco Viejo is an institution. The place always seems busy, with well thought out spaces being exhausted by the many visitors. The rooftop has spectacular views which are a must see, and the Mexican food & drinks are on point! Don’t miss.
Our family of 2 adults and 2 teens spent 6 nights here during the week after christmas in a quad room. I really wanted to love selina. It has alot going for it. Location is on the edge of the Casco Viejo neighborhood but you can easily walk to everything and ubers are plentiful. Lots of restaurants nearby. The rooftop lounge/pool/restaurant is AWESOME. This single-handedly salvaged our stay. You have a spectacular view of the panama city skyline and ocean ... the food is excellent ... the clientele is young. Plenty of places to sit. It's a huge space. They have music/dancing every night. Other common areas were equally large and inviting ... there was a lovely solarium on the 3rd floor outside our room with 20ft ceilings and lush vines covering the entire wall. Room was large. Beds comfortable. Wifi good. Bathroom was sub-par ... it was clean but there wasn't enough room to put your toiletries, the shower got the floor wet, the toilet seat wouldn't stay up so I had to pee holding the seat up ... worst of all, we had no hot water the entire week despite repeated complaints to the front desk. My big beef with selina was the indifference of the staff. They're all 20-somethings who didn't seem to know what they were doing. Whether it was getting the hot water fixed or swapping out our wet towels or getting breakfast, we were underwhelmed with the staff. Also there are only 2 slow elevators servicing a 6 floor hotel. We ended up using the stairs because the elevator wait was usually long. Finally the rooftop dance club was really LOUD at night ... we were on the 3rd floor and could hear club music in our room until about midnight and it was hard to sleep. Selina is one of the best hostels we've ever visited. If you're a 20-something, you'll lovvvvve selina. If you're expecting hotel-level service, you might be disappointed.…
