Excellent property with security guards at the gate entrance. Florida the lady owner of the hotel was most charming and caring. She took extra care of us with our food restrictions and made us some of the best breakfast we ever had. Thank you for such kind and warm hospitality.

Well priced hotel in a guarded community, which is always a plus when you're in San Salvador. Florida, the manager (owner?!), couldn't have been lovelier as well. Super helpful with directions, finding out info etc. Great location as it's close to bus stations and handy for airport too.

In a quite and secure little street, the hotel San mateo Is a very warm place to stay. The rooms are spacious, well equipped and the breakfasts are plentiful. The ratio price/services is excellent in a city where everything is expensive. The owner is very welcoming, friendly and will do anything she can to help. I recommend this hotel.

I arrived here with some friends and I was immediately greeted with kindness. Our nights felt safe and super comfortable. I can tell you that this place really went all out to make my friends and I feel at home. The food was amazing! The fact that its gated and that they have 24/7 security really helped me feel secure and I slept like a baby. Next time I visit El Salvador I'll definitely be staying here again :-).

Florida and Alfonso are great hosts. I was for one night in the hotel, and was warmly welcomed, has a very clean and tidy room, toilet, wifi and breakfast. Florida was also kind enough to make me a sandwich at night. The hotel is small, very cozy and in a secure and quiet neighborhood. The next day I did a tour with Alfonso to the volcano and the beach, and then was dropped at the airport. Very recommended!

Hotel San Mateo has been the best and most value for money stay I had in Central America. The hosts were thoughtful & eager to make sure I had a good stay. Flori was friendly and always smiling, helped me with getting a taxi, get my torn usd changed & even arranged for her Husband to take me on a day tour - because there were no tours running on Mondays! The very spacious room was cleaned Everyday, nice comfy a/c, drinking water provided & a delicious salvadorian breakfast of tamales and pupusa!

In my travels, I always try to find hidden gems in regards to places to stay, and this is one of them. Florida (wife) and Alfonso (husband) are fantastic hosts and make you feel at home. You are in their house, and they are so warm and inviting that they make you feel like part of their family. This is how traveling should always be. The price of the room was better than anything else we could find in San Salvador. It also has good airconditioning (and a separate ceiling fan), a nice private bath (with all amenities), and lots of common areas to relax. The rooms are all kept spotlessly clean. We got some food at the store and, instead of using the house refrigerator in the kitchen, our hosts surprised us by bringing a mini-refrigerator into our room for us to use. They were so considerate and helpful. We spent a lot of time talking to our hosts at night and getting to know them. They have some very interesting stories about their experiences during the war, their families, and other quirks about Salvadorean culture. It was a pleasure spending hours with them in their courtyard. The breakfasts are delicious and homemade, representing the traditional offerings in El Salvador and some different variations. My girlfriend is a vegetarian, and I am a vegan, and Florida prepared personalized breakfasts just for us (including juice and teas made from fruit and spices in their garden). The breakfasts are delicious, filling, and healthy. The hotel has a great location. We saw many parts of the city and did most of it by walking (although taxis and buses are all around the area). It is very safe and there are many stores and markets nearby. I recommend this hotel very highly. It is a real diamond in San Salvador. The hosts and the neighborhood made us really enjoy our time in the capital and Florida gave us a lot of ideas for day trips and other longer trips in the country. Thank you so much Florida and Alfonso. We loved our stay.

This hotel is in a safe, quiet residential area. The host, Florida, was very helpful and welcoming. Yes, she charges for everything, but she is running a business and makes you feel very welcome! Note: She does have two friendly dogs. Breakfast is included and prepared by her, including some fruits/veggies from the garden. The room is air conditioned and has all basic amenities. Not amazing if you compare to a hotel in the US, but very good for the price and location. Recommended.

Yes, it's safe. It's also clean and quiet. But I disagree with other reviewers about the host. Maybe because I'm Latin-American I got a different perception of her: someone who thinks that travellers don't mind spending a little extra here and there. If she kindly offers you something, she will over charge for it. If she calls a taxi, she'll get a commission. If you complain because there's no water, she will sort it out making it look like you owe her. For me, just a smart woman playing the role of the lovely auntie. Nothing wrong with that, it's a business after all, just bear in mind that she does nothing for free.

Super clean! Very welcoming! Extremely helpful! In a guarded community, so extremely safe. Only thing is that they don't accept credit cards, so make sure you have cash. A lot better if its exact change.
