We stayed here overnight in route from Honduras to the airport in San Salvador. It's on the 2nd floor of the King Quality Bus Station (KQ is a fantastic way to travel luxuriously city centre to city centre in Central America for relatively cheaply by the way) The hotel itself is on the 2nd floor (the DO have a freight elevator which is very handy) and check in was very swift. However the spartan rooms were just borderline clean; the linens in my room were very sparse and my only towel was ripped down the middle, but the maid had folded and used it anyway. The air conditioning in my room worked well, but the unit in the larger triple room was old and beat up and didn't work well at all, especially for three people. They must have problem clientele, because there was a notice posted on the mirror of the charges for breaking the various bits of furniture. The lighting was dim at best and there were no three pronged outlets and no adapters available at the front desk. They do give you breakfast though, and you're supposedly entitled to an hour's internet use on the public computer in the lobby, but it was down when we tried it.
This was an alright place to crash late night after a long day traveling, and they can get you to the airport in 45 minutes, but I certainly wouldn't recommend this for anything other than a one night dive.

The hotel is in the same building as the Puerto Bus terminal - receives coaches from Guatemala. We arrived about 9 pm and were not confident enough to go looking for a place after dark in San Salvador. Reception would not let us see the room before paying saying something about security, which should have alerted us - foolishly we just meekly accepted. The room was clean, but there were no windows - it was simply a box. Staff were however happy to phone you at 4 am to wake you for the bus - even if you did not want to catch the bus at that time in the morning !

There is a small cafe open until late at night, which serves basic meals - the hotel lists it as their restaurant. Coaches start getting noisy around 5 am.

Really just a place if you are in transit on the bus - no other plausible reason to stay

We have stayed at the Hotel Puerto Bus (Bus Station Hotel) for a week 3 times in a little over a year. The rooms are cheap (about $35-40) per nite.
Pluses: The rooms are pretty clean and they change the linens daily. A/C which works almost all the time. Hot water in the shower about half the time. A decent sitting area. Convenient to buses since you are directly over the bus station. No need for an alarm since the loud noise of the buses starts very early in the morning. Hotel and parking lot is guarded 24 hours/day. Pretty good and cheap restaurant downstairs that is open from 6:00 until 10:00 pm. WiFi in the common areas.
Negatives: Sheets barely cover the bed so get balled up every night. Pillows are almost as hard as stones. No hot water in sink. Bathroom is so small you can brush your teeth, go to the bathroom, and wash your hands in the shower at the same time. Drain in the shower is always very slow. Noisy: thin walls and loud buses. No free breakfast.
Conclusion: If cost is the number one criteria, this is acceptable. I suspect there are much better hotels if you don't mind spending a bit more but as I travel with a group that always stays here, this is the only one I know.

We got in after a long day of travel from Nicaragua, through Honduras. Actually this was one of the "fancier" places we stayed. We chose this place because we were misinformed that there was a shuttle available to the airport. There was not, so we took a 45 min cab for $30. Anyhow, the room was luxurious compared to what we had been used to on that trip. Clean, firm beds and actual hot water! It's pretty much what you would get in a cheap motel in North America.

For me (and probably for many), it was the most comfortable solution: get out of the bus and just go one floor higher to find your room. Was greeted by a very nice reception lady who was very helpful throughout the stay. The room was ok for the price, warm water and AC were working. A table would have been nice and the wifi signal could have been a little better, but I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Hotel puerto bus is not a hotel you would want to spend several days while visiting San Salvador. This hotel is located within the same building as the bus station. If you need to catch a bus heading to other Central American countries, it’s worth staying here just for the night. The hotel is on the second floor and they charged me $36 at the time of stay for a couple (November 30, 2011). The rooms are small and the bathroom is extremely small and tight. The rooms are not very clean eighter, you can see a lot of stains on the carpet, in the bathroom and you get a lot of noise given that the hotel is in the same building as the bus station. The hotel is a safe place to stay the night if you arrive late in San Salvador or are leaving early.

Rooms are small, not extremely clean but o.k., there is an open air terasse with a couch, the included breakfast is quite reduced consisting of a cookie and a cup of coffee, generally spoken the hotel seems quite expensive for the offered rooms and service

be careful about bills and the check on the change you get from the staff!

The hotel is overpriced in my opinion. They deliberately deceive you. The sign on the stairs leading into the hotel states that breakfast is included and it wasn't so plan on spending an extra ten dollars along with the overpriced hotel bill. If you have time to find another place to spend the night do so and avoid the pounding reggae bar out front and the traffic noise from the other side.
