Posizione centralissima.

I am not normally the dissenting voice, but based on previous good reviews here I am forced in to that position!
Hotel Ruinas is a perfectly acceptable establishment which I think tries to slot itself in to the mid/upper quality bracket. But it just fails to achieve that..
First off, given the fact that one is in Cuzco, surrounded by so much original Inca architecture, this hotel is rather characterless and sterile. Not a problem, just a disappointment!
There is no elevator - so with rooms on the third floor, climbing the stairs on the first day in Cuzco's altitude can be a problem. Be sure to book a low-floor room if you find stairs a problem!
The rooms were well equipped - with the best bed we found anywhere in our month-long travels! But, they were small. There was insufficient space to leave one suitcase (we had two), and so this meant having to literally climb over it when trying to get in/out of bed and to/from the toilet. In short, a perfectly adequate if somewhat 'plastic' building/furnishing.
My main gripe was with the service offered by the management. Waiters/receptionsist/porters were friendly and helpful, but on the two occasions we asked for management's help we were left with a very bad taste.
The first was when asking for a packed lunch to take with us on the following day (yes, about 18 hours in advance). This, apparently, was impossible... Even the Front Desk clerk was embarrased at this. All we wanted was a cheese sandwich an an apple!
The second was when asking permission to remove our room towels to take with us on an impromptu rafting trip. This, again, we were told was strictly forbidden. I offered to leave a deposit - or to have them charge me for full replacement if they were lost/damaged.... but again the answer was no. In the end, after consulting the management, I was told they would rent them to me at a charge of US$4 per day... to cover "washing costs", conveniently overlooking the fact that they would be washing them regardless of whether we 'removed' them or not.
In the end we did what anyone else would have done... we just took them "illegally" and they were none the wiser.
It may seem a silly thing, but the two incidents left a bitter taste which undoubtedly has clouded my opinion. In short, it's a perfectly adequate hotel, but I'm not much impressed with their desire to help their guests. Has customer service not yet made it to Cusco? I'm sure it has, but evidently not to Hotel Ruinas

Older hotel but in good condition. Two double beds in our room and bathroom okay. Breakfast passable. The good thing about this hotel is it’s location near the central plaza and lots of good restaurants. Airport pickup was included in price. Also central enough for tour companies to pick up from the hotel which is a major plus when leaving in the dark at 4.30 am for Machu Picchu.

Great place. Very helpful staff. Nice location. Hotel had breakfast, allowed us to use a power converter, stored our bags safely, and arranged transportation back to the airport. Very happy with their service.

The location of this hotel is amazing! It is two blocks from the plaza de armas, and in easy walking distance to San Blas. The rooms are small (typical for Peru) and outdated, but they do have a decent size flat screen tv in each room. The water pressure is essentially nonexistent which was a problem for me because I have long, very thick hair. Breakfast was decent. Overall, service was good, but I took off a star because there was a miscommunication when we arrived. Our bags had been taken from Ollantaytambo to this hotel by our tour company while we went to Machu Picchu. When we arrived at the hotel, we told them that we needed our bags. They told us they didn't have them. One member of our group stayed in the lobby while we were taken to our rooms and after a few phone calls they found them. Overall a good experience, the location is by far the best of any hotel we saw while walking around.

This hotel was the most expensive for our trip to Peru but it was well worth it (3-star). Upon arrival, we started off well as we were welcomed with some coca tea to help with the altitude and vouchers for 2 free pisco sours to be used later at our leisure. The location was superb as it was 1 block down from Museo de Santa Catalina, with their sister tourist office just down the street. They provide free airport pickup and drop off, with extra blankets and a heater for those cold Andean nights, plus other modern amenities such as hairdryer and safe deposit box. The western style buffet breakfasts is also a nice addition. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous in every respect.

I have just returned from a 2 week holiday in Peru and stayed here for 4 nights. I found it a very pleasant place to stay with no complaints at all. Great location with everything you want within walking distance.Internet cafe`s,shops, restaurants and bars all on the same street with many more in Playa del Armes the main square which is 5 mins walk from the front door. The hotel is very clean, the rooms are clean and comfortable, although front rooms can be a little noisy with the traffic, rooms at the back have fantastic views of Cusco and The Andes. The staff are very pleasant and friendly and most speak very good English. The food is great and don`t miss breakfast you won`t have to eat again for the rest of the day. I stayed in 4 hotels whilst in Peru and this was my favourite,if I ever return to Peru and Cusco in particular I would make this hotel the first on my list to stay.
