I was treated to two nights at Belmond Monasterio while in Cusco and loved it. The place looks like a cloister - interior garden is very well maintained and they even had a fire pit at night if you wanted to sit outside. Room was spacious and the bed enormous with very nice quality linens and perfect pillows. We slept so well. Bathroom is also very nice. We stayed on the second floor. Staff was very nice and accommodating. I needed a different hair dryer and they cam quick enough for me to use it. Breakfast is an abundant buffet and if you want eggs they prepare them for you in many different ways at no extra cost. There was a classical guitar player at breakfast this morning. First morning we had to get picked up at 6:40 for a tour but they actually start serving breakfast at 5 am (or 5:30) to make sure quests don’t miss it. Very accommodating. Would love to return - especially if someone else treats me again!

We have traveled all over the world and this is one of the most wonderful and magical places at which we've stayed. The rooms are breathtaking, incredibly appointed, with original art in the rooms and throughout this historic property. The restaurant (while not surprisingly very pricey) is superb. The included breakfast was amazing.

The grounds and building are magical and very historic. There is a great deal of original art throughout the monastery.

One of the highlights of our entire trip through South America was an art tour that the front desk arranged for us upon request. Edgar is a wonderful and very knowledgable man who took a great deal of time to relate to us the history of the Inca people, the Spanish invasion and the art that reflects this deep and rich history. He guided us through the grounds showing us wonderful features of both the buildings and the original art that we'd never have known had we not gone on this tour with him. While it was scheduled for an hour, he took much more time with us. He has a real passion for the history and art and relates it all with clarity and enthusiasm.

Edgar also struck us as a tremendously friendly, interesting and kind man.

WELL WORTH the cost for the tour...if you're interested in history, art, learning about all of this from a man who grew up near Cusco, you should take time to do this.

Belmond Hotel Monasterio rivals the best paradors in Spain in luxurious accommodations, attention to detail and effortless hospitality. Having delicious pisco sours by the huge fireplace in one of their cosy public areas and chatting with guests from all over the world is now one of my favorite memories from the trip. We were upgraded to a magnificent spacious suit (unexpected treat right after my birthday): the ambiance was so welcoming we really didn’t really want to leave! We also had dinner (with expertly prepared dishes) at the hotel’s restaurant during the Opera Night and consider a great privilege to be in the audience for Peru’s highly professional singers. Belmond Monasterio is more than a hotel, it’s an Experience with capital E. We can’t wait to repeat it! Thank you, Belmond!

This was a total exquisite experience on all levels. Not only did you step into luxury but you stepped into history. This is a place that shares its secrets with you. It is steeped in the past and it is always there like a positive shadow following you, reminding you that past and present can unite. There is a grace to this place and a serenity that whispers into your whole being to be still and quiet. The staff were of the highest professional level and went about their jobs with dignity and calm. Try the breakfast out in the courtyard as an excellent start to your day. Sit by the fire in the bar lounge area a room itself that speaks of ancient energy. This is a place that looks after your human nature but also touches your soul.

Hotel Monasterio lived up to every expectation. Service by everyone from the front desk, to the servers and bellmen is outstanding.
Proper hydration is a big part of not getting altitude sickness (bottled water, tea and oxygen is provided).
Room was outstanding. Complimentary robes and slippers provided, as were the chocolate truffles. Bed was very comfortable and bathroom was extremely clean.
We stayed 3 nights at the beginning of our trip, and another upon returning from Machu Picchu. The hotel stored our main luggage while we were gone.
Breakfasts were buffet style for your toast, bacon, fruit, etc, and then you order your eggs, pancakes, etc from the servers. Coffee and tea are non-stop.
We ate dinner twice in the lounge – not a full menu but certainly sufficient for our needs. Food was very good (the deep fried prawns were some of the best we have ever had).
We also had afternoon cocktails in the courtyard and the staff were again excellent.
Upon returning from Machu Picchu we found that we had been upgraded to a suite with an upstairs/loft sitting area. This was the perfect ending to a week that included all three of the Belmonds in the area: the Belmond Monasterio, the Belmond Rio Sagrado, and the Belmond Sanctuary at Machu Picchu.
We were turned onto the Belmonds by friends who have used them in the past. This chain lived up to the hype - not only for the unique characteristics of the properties, but the service is beyond expectations. Well done Belmond!

This was a fabulous base from which to explore the magical town of Cusco. The hotel is housed in a remodeled monastery and keeps much of the original architecture and details in the common areas with updated guest rooms. The location is great, one block away from the Plaza de Armas, close to a myriad restaurants, shops, and museums.

Rooms are spacious and decorated with replicas of religious paintings from centuries past. Very, very small windows, but that goes with the monastic theme. There are plenty of light bulbs to make the room light enough. There is a lovely bar at the front of the hotel with heavy wooden furnishings, and a great buffet breakfast served daily until 10am. The highlight, however, is the courtyard, with a beautiful cedar tree casting shadow on many tables and couches to lounge and have some tea in. Indeed, the hotel offers free coca tea during the day and mint tea at night.

Service was impeccable, with very friendly staff. They gave us a generous late check out for one of our rooms, and greeted us by name whenever we came and went.

All said, this was an outstanding stay in a lovely property.

The Belmont hotel in Cusco is one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever stayed in. It’s quiet and charming and has the best staff one could ever hope for. The manager, Jose, runs the hotel with such ease and class- we very much enjoyed his presence and his attention to detail.

The hotel itself is gorgeous and in a very central location - easy to get to the main square or to visit the San Blas area. There are a lot of nice bars and shops in the area as well.

My husband was there for about a month on business and they took such good care of him. I would highly recommend a stay at the Belmont hotel and also a visit to Cusco. I think the tree in the center of the courtyard is one of the highlights of the area, not to be missed in addition to all the oil Renaissance paintings that line the hallways of the hotel.

Food is excellent but pricey and like bar drinks - that’s no different than in most hotels! I thought the Franciscan monk music was a bit much at times. They could probably change the station once in a while for a lighter mood. Other than that I think this hotel is a really wonderful place to stay.

The Monasterio Hotel is a beautiful monastery from the 1500’s converted into a beautiful hotel. Our room was very spacious and appointed beautifully. There was fresh fruit and pastries waiting for us in our room when we arrived. The staff was kind, helpful and never made us feel like any question was too many. The hotel is filled with beautiful religious pictures from the era and there is a functioning chapel with music you can hear throughout, but not offensively. There are 2 main courtyards and in the evenings there is entertainment and cocktails. On our last evening there, Saturday, we had a briefing to go to in preparation for our Salkantay Trek and we just wanted a bite to eat. We hadn’t changed from our hiking clothes but the restaurant staff seated us with no questions. Little did we know we would be served white glove service and the entertainment was two professional opera singers and their accompanists. This was a great way to begin our adventure in Peru. The Belmont Monasterio Hotel is definitely a 5 star hotel and experience.

I've stayed in luxury hotels and resorts around the world very frequently, so my expectations coming to the Belmond Monasterio hotel were very high. The hotel and stay did not disappoint; in fact, they exceeded my expectations throughout our stay. We never once had to wait for anything; there was always a team member eager to provide personalized attention for whatever we needed. The historical rooms were just immaculate. And the attention to detail was top-notch. For example, our housekeeper folded clothes we left on the table neatly and put them back in the closet. They also made sure we had more than enough bottled water and bathroom amenities so that we never needed to ask for more. Throughout our stay, the staff anticipated our needs to and delivered absolute perfection. Lastly, most of the staff knew our names and always greeted us personally, which only the very best hotels in the world can accomplish.

The Monasterio hotel is a beautiful property situated within a former monastery. The service provided by staff throughout the hotel was not just efficient, but also consistently friendly and attentive. While at first glance it may appear "expensive" compared to other Cusco hotels, the Monasterio is a first class experience which shouldn't be missed.
