Taking inspiration from retablos, a sophisticated form of Andean folk art with three-dimensional figurines in vibrantly colored portable boxes, Mountain Lodges of Peru is proud to present its newest property: El Retablo Bed & Breakfast boutique. Located at the pulsing heart of the historical city of Cusco, only three blocks away from the Main Square, and with 17 unique rooms, the intimate El Retablo blends traditional heritage of Peruvian artisans with contemporary comfort.

our group of 9 stayed here in late December 2019 and loved it!! Kevin at the front desk was amazing--so courteous and welcoming! And the hotel is absolutely beautiful. Beds are super comfortable and breakfasts were delicious. Fantastic!

We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful hotel. The rooms and hotel itself are beautifully designed, with lots of effort to make it cosy and friendly, including happy hour with chilled music in the early evening every day, and such comfy and lovely beds. The view from our room was also amazing. It’s so well situated- minutes from the main square but quiet and safe. My husband and I also had the misfortune to fall ill whilst staying at the hotel (unrelated)- and the staff could not have been kinder, checking in on us, extending our stay and going to extra mile to help us feel cared for whilst we were there. I can honestly say this is probably my favourite hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Thank you, El Retablo!

We just spent 3 nights in a small but comfortable room with a balcony overlooking the main square, which is a few blocks away. You can spend days exploring museums and good food within walking distance. The hotel is beautifully decorated in a colorful Peruvian style and the staff is friendly and helpful.

If you want a great view of Cusco outside of trendy San Blas (and away from all the Americans), El Retablo is your place! The staff was so, so friendly. They serve an excellent breakfast and I loved walking home at night up the little hill into a real Cusco neighborhood. The street lets off right in front of the Belmond Monestario hotel so it is super central, but also quiet and a bit less touristy than the hipster areas. The decor was super fun - the wall of retablos and all the floral paintings on the ceiling. Perfect for good photos!

We stayed 3 nights in total and enjoyed every day. Location is great, it’s quiet but only a 5 minute walk to the center. Very nice and clean rooms, with comfortable beds and high-standard bathrooms. We enjoyed the rich breakfast and the welcoming atmosphere. Kevin at the reception was very friendly, helpful and supported us getting used to the altitude. Made the difference :-)

This was one of the most beautiful properties I've ever stayed at, the art which is painted on the walls and ceilings is just stunning. I traveled non stop to Cusco from Calgary and was exhausted when I arrived. My room wasn't ready yet but Jessica was very kind and let me have a much needed nap on the couch in the reception area. She also gave me a map of Cusco and explained where to find things I might need (such as insect repellant) and what streets and areas were generally the safest. I felt comfortable and safe the entire time I stayed here.

Bright beautiful hotel. Free breakfast in a lovely room. Quiet, beautiful area, live music in the courtyard every night. Excellent service. So much better than our second hotel. The only real drawback to this spot is it’s a little hard to get to. You have a steep hill to climb and an alley to walk down, so taxi and tour pick ups had a little trouble finding us.

Welcome! Welcome! says this hotel from the staff to the brightly decorated interiors! The boutique hotel opens into a courtyard and registration is in a side room. As you register, take time for a mate de coca (or coffee) break. The rooms are so thoughtfully decorated and painted. Each room has a plaque naming the artists who decorated the room. Our room on the second floor in the front (ask for room 105 or room 106) of the hotel look out on the city and has beautiful views in the evenings. We just delighted in the atmosphere. Breakfast staff is amazing, taking care of each detail. The omelettes were great. The crepes were too (just ask for two because they are small). Fresh orange juice and other juices. And if you have time, enjoy some music and a snack in the courtyard each early evening.

The hotel is nice and although an uphill walk from the main square in Cusco it's a good warm up for who was going to do the Salkantay Trail. Hotel staff was friendly and the rooms very clean and spacious. The problem was the noise. We had our sleep disturbed several times during the night by either people banging doors or playing cell phone games (not the hotel's fault).

Much prefer small boutique hotels to the large chains and this is a great example. Kevin who seems to run the place is the most pleasant helpful guy ever. Rooms are very comfortable with charming colorful decorations. Being small does not have the huge choice at breakfast but there is enough to suit most tastes and the freshly cooked omelettes to order are the best in Peru. Nice to have real orange juice too. May not be the best choice for the less mobile as it located in an alley off a steep street and there is no elevator but this means it is quiter at night than many.
