There are some positive and some negative points about this B&B. The location is really nice. It lies in the suburb of Providencia, about 10 to 15 minutes to walk to the main subway line. Providencia is kind of a rich suburb, making it a very safe neighbourhood. There are a lot of good restaurants and several supermarkets within a 10 to 15 minute walk. It also is a really quiet place, only having about 3 rooms, it's not the kind of party hostel. The pool - although kind of dirty sometimes - stands out as a positive point as ell The negative parts are that it feels like they want to get your money at first. That said, you have to pay if you want to store the luggage for 2 or 3 hours after check.out. Also, their laundry service (no opportunity for washing by yourself) seems overpriced. The breakfast is average at most. Finally, the room, which wasn't clean at all, doesn't seem to be heated, which means that it can get really cold with around 5°C outside temperature at night. We were disappointed given by the excellent reviews here.…
Stayed here for couple of nights on a friends recommendation, the place is in nice residential neighbourhood in posh locality around Sucre in Santiago. easy to go around city, metro is 10 mins walk, place has a swimming pool, and bbq pit aswell. run by local chilean guys , fransisco and his friend, both are very welcoming and helpful, they made me feel like im visiting my friends in different country. they do organize regular pool side parties over weekend along with fired bbq. over all a great place in Santiago. Will recommend to anyone whoz looking for a place in Santiago
Honestly, I have to thank previous trip advisor reviewers as the main reason I picked The Magic House in Santiago, in the suburb of Providencia. Overall, I found it very quaint and relaxing. The main positive points are: 1) the pool and shaded back yard. 2) the wonderful staff 3) the location is in the safest part of Santiago. The main streets are 15 minutes away walking through picturesque, green-leafed streets. Mind you, the breakfast is very basic but for what you pay you receive great value and the ambiance and comfort more than makes up for it. Basically, I travelled alone and stayed one week and was pleasantly surprised. I definitely recommend the Magic House as home away from home. P.S. Only negative: the squawking birds in the tree in the backyard, although, as with anything you actually get used to them.…
We have stayed at a number of places in Santiago in recent years (Hostals and Apartments), at various values. Then this year we came across the Magic House, with a pool. For value for money, friendliness of the welcome and facilities the we have not found better. Our trip this year required us to return to Santiago 3 times, initially with motorbikes that Tania and Victor allowed us to park there. Following our initial 2 days we decided to book in for our return the following month and then again 2 weeks later for our final nights in Chile. The pool was cleaned regularly, sometimes leaves fall in from the trees in an adjacent property, but that is nature. There are a bunch of parakeets in another tree, and yes they sing during daylight hours, just like the thousands of other birds around that live in trees all over the city. During our three stays we were made very welcome and treated more like friends than guests, there was never any trouble using the kitchen, which was shared with Tania and Victor (it is their home). Our favourite room was the outside one near the pool and BBQ, there was never any late night noise and the parakeets went to sleep at sunset.…
Following the amazing reviews from the place, I booked a two night stay in the "house" online. At first, I tried to book it directly on their website but I got an error message (I used my phone and their website is not responsive). The same availability was seen in other engines, so I finally made my reservation using Hotels.com. It was even $20 cheaper. Got my confirmation email! Great! When I arrived at the "house" and dispatched the transfer I hired from the airport, a guy received us at the door and informed me that they are full! I felt so foolish I wanted to run and catch the shuttle back. It was all downhill from there. He continued saying that I shouldn't show up there without a confirmation from them (what?) and that "Hotels.com" emailed me saying the reservation wasn't confirmed. The only message I got from Hotels.com was to review my experience. For them apparently I did stay there. He added that the same thing had happened already to two other couples "from your country" (his words) that same week, He kept arguing there was nothing they could do, it wasn't their fault. While I was standing there with nowhere to go, the availability still showed everywhere, even in their own website!! I asked the guy to check online and he would see the availability was still there. He refused and also refused to give me the password for the wifi so I could show him on my phone. He said that the internet was for "guests only". He finally said I should call a taxi and leave. Since he wouldn't give me the password for the wifi, I had to use his computer to look for a place to stay at the very last minute. He got a calculator machine and kept typing numbers, it seemed he wanted to know how much I was paying extra for the next place to see if he would make me an offer to stay. At the end of the nightmare, as I was walking out the door to look for a taxi (he refused to call us one too) he shouted from his office: DE NADA! It was all very disrespectful. I've travelled to over 20 countries and have never seen such a lack of professionalism. I work with digital marketing and I am personally making sure all the online booking systems know the risks of what they are advertising. That is what you get when you want a more intimate experience... SHAME ON YOU, not so MAGIC HOUSE.…
