WE spent much time reviewing the many hotels in Santiago for a variety of factors. Despite the more than twenty hotels that are 4* or 5*, AND meet the criterias of having a TA 4.5 rating, providing free wifi, good air conditioning (based on reviews), underground parking and breakfast buffet- very few are in an area where you can walk out of the hotel and easily walk to over fifty great restaurants, parks, and even the best art museum in the city (Ralli) - and do so at any time of day or night. Yes, the Viticura area is manicured and wealthy, and this may be a turnoff to people wanting to experience the more gritty or 'real' South America found in Santiago center (although I'd hardly describe any part of Santiago frequented by tourists as gritty relative to most SA capital cities). But at the very least, compared to the rows of hotels in the other similar commercial areas of tall buildings in the vicinity and just south of it, where most of the US chains are aggregated, and the cluster in the very very busy intersections near Costanera Center, this hotel has a better location for those wanting quiet, with more walkability options. The historic center area is certainly nice, with Belle Vista offering more ''bohemian' character and Lastarria plenty of tourist friendly features along with proximity to most major attractions and many restaurant options at all levels of affordibility. However, the more peaceful and safer setting of the Pullman, near great restaurants will appear more to some. The rooms are standard 4*, the one we were in seemed recently renovated, very minimalist - all grey and black tones. Good beds, and linens, excellent soundproofing and housekeeping, great water pressure and temperature control, standard bathroom amenities a good view of a few mountains when facing the front. Nothing about the room or spaces made it exceptional or memorable, but as a total package, it worked very well for comfort. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. One shouldn't drive in Santiago, but if you have a car on the way to other places, parking was free, clean, well lit, so easy (and be assured, from direct experience, this is NOT the case at some 5* hotels in this town). The breakfast was the weakest link - truly not worth it for what we would expect of the Pullman hotels, but perhaps reflective of most breakfast in this city - we are not sure- but it was very underwhelming- subpar cheeses, soggy scrambled eggs, awful bread choices, little by way of jams, soft overripe fruit, almost no 'hot' choice beyond the messy eggs. The staff were excellent and the most efficient in clearing plates we've seen! With Uber operating so efficiently in this city you can stay anywhere and choices are many- we believe this Pullman is one of the best, in balancing many positives.…
