Although I rated only average, the hotel served its purpose. We arrived at 1am and staff were so friendly and accommodating. The location is exceptional and convenient. Looks lovely from the outside. Very small rooms let the hotel down but big enough to have a good night's sleep and a shower.

Checked in at 2am and found the front office staff friendly. The room is small (about a foot of space on either side of the bed), the bathroom tinier -- no real space to shower without getting the whole place wet, and this is certainly a no frills budget place. The location is great -- literally facing the Chinatown MRT stop, steps from lots of restaurants. Walkable to Merlion and the Singapore River. If you are looking for a budget space to spend a few hours between flights (like I was), this is a good option.

Dear byomkesh, our location is definitely one of the things we are very proud of about our hotel. We are so lucky to have a property in the heart of Chinatown and a very strategic location that brings our guests just a few steps away from must-see attractions and modern-day conveniences.

DO NOT STAY HERE! You have been warned! Quite simply, the most disgusting hotel I have ever visited. Room was filthy, had congealed blood stains on the sheets, toe nail clippings, potato chips and hair all over the bathroom floor. It is like something from a horror movie. I wouldn't let my dog stay here... They changed our room when we complained, but the next room was the same. So much so that the receptionist came and attempted to clean the room (I'm assuming the housekeeper could not be bothered, or was too busy 'cleaning' the other rooms...) We then decided we would not stay the.night and asked for a refund, the hotel refused, saying we would have to pay a cancellation fee. What a joke. We tossed the key into the tray and left. Summed up in one word... GRIM

I found Hotel 81 to be a highly economical and extremely cheerful place to stay, while visiting the Lion City. It is safe and comfortable, plus has old world architectural charm, too. But arguably, it is the location that is the biggest selling point for this hotel, with; shopping, transport, dinning, drinking, museums, places of worship and entertainment (see my YouTube), all within easy walking distance.

The hygiene of the hotel room was extremely disappointing, utterly disgusting and completely unacceptable. We were in the room for 15 minutes, thinking that the room looked seemingly decent but only to find a bed bug/flea on the bed sheets. It was a traumatising experience as I was told by a hotel staff that the room had just been cleaned when we checked in. Although a room change was an option, we were unable to trust the hygiene of the hotel as the impression of a freshly cleaned room with bed bugs/flea have destroyed the trust between us and the hotel. Our experience was also very distressful as we had an early flight to Singapore on that day and had to cancel our plans immediately to look for another hotel shortly after we checked in; not to mention that we had to pay out of our pocket to book another hotel. We tried contacting the hotel via email to provide our feedback and a request for refund to the customer care team but was unable to reach them due to their mailbox being full and cannot accept any messages. It has been a month and my email is still being bounced back. I have also emailed Hotel 81 Chinatown but have not received any response. Very disappointed with the management and the customer service of this hotel.

Positive notes: Great location Friendly staff Negative notes: Way too expensive considering what you get. AC can not be adjusted from the room (except for temp. and fan movement) Not the cleanest hotel. Considering we came here during the corona outbreak, you would think they would change the bedsheets between guests (or at least boil them). Bloodstains dont take much to clean, just saying. They did change our sheets after we told them, so thats a plus. I see a lot of reviews complaining about small rooms and tiny bathrooms with toilet and shower on top of one another. We stayed here for one night and that was ok, but anything further and it would have been a problem. My advice is, if you can stretch your budget, just pay slightly more for a far better experience. This is expensive considering what you get.

Stayed for two nights at Hotel 81 Chinatown Good points, hotel is in a very good location, close to MRT Station and shopping, Many places to eat and the room was clean, and shower was powerfull Bad points, Sadly bad points far outnumber the good points, room is really tiny, it's like a prison cell, windows boarded over so you can't see out, furniture old fashioned, and looked like it belonged in a junk shop, tiny shower room, you have to stand In front of toilet to shower, as that's the only place to stand, no breakfast available, bed was hard and not comfortable, could not adjust air conditioning, it was to cold, and way to expensive, not even worth half of what I paid, if I hadn't alrready paid I would have walked out.

Dear martin w, while the room may be small in size, the stay is well considered value-for-money, given its excellent location, where you had enjoyed convenient access to the subway station, shopping mall as well as the neighbouring places of interest. We thank you for your constructive feedback. Please be assured that your feedback will be brought up to the higher management for possible upgrading works in the future.

We first thought that this hotel is a chance of life in Singapore, especially that we were in love with the location. But then, we could not wait until we go out of the hotel. The ants are everywhere, which was really irritating to the extent of being not able to have a restful night knowing that those little creatures live with you. The room was expected to be small, but not to the limit that two people cannot walk in the room without crashing by each other or by the furniture. And if we are about to talk abt the location, then I would like to say that bus and train stations are everywhere in Singapore and you could be afforded another hotel, cheaper, cleaner, better and still be close to the town in general.
