Kitchen is fully equipped, comfy bed clean bathrooms and rooms. Surprisingly during pandemic, this hotel apartment still provide daily cleaning 👍
There’s no washer and dryer inside our room but there’s a coin washer and dryer located on the 5th floor, each $8 ( included washing powder).
All staffs are very friendly and welcoming.

Finding suitable accommodation in Singapore is a sizeable challenge. Balancing important things like location and proximity to preferred interests, closeness to an MRT station, motel ammenities and of course price, are all important. After 2 years planning (thanks to COVID) my family finally settled on Somerset Bencoolen and I write this almost at the end of a 2 week stay.
I am happy to say that we have been very happy with our decision. The 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment was perfect for 4 people with plenty of room (it’s the 2 bedroom deluxe on the website). It had 3 air conditioning units including 1 in each bedroom and a full size fridge within the kitchen. It was clean, well appointed and showed only small signs of wear and tear. On the 9th floor we hardly noticed any traffic noise and had decent sleeps. There are 12 floors in total. The only noise that did grate occasionally was people upstairs, dragging their chairs around on the tile floor in the middle of the night! Not much one can do about that I guess.
The roof top pool was sizeable and the water was very pleasant with no noticeable chlorine smell or taste. As some have said, there are some loose tiles but they are actually covering water drains for the pool so it is to be expected I think but not dangerous. Note the ‘spa’ is not heated but in these temperatures, it’s probably not needed.
There is an Indian fare restaurant off the main entrance on the ground floor which is very handy and well priced, who also do takeaways (back to your room if you want). There are also plenty of food options within a few minutes walk in any direction as well.
The blue line MRT station has 3 entrances within 100 - 200m of Somerset Bencoolen which is close and we used that every day.
The 5th floor houses clothes washers and driers. Tokens valued at S$8.00 are available from the front desk. The machines are large and work well although at $16 for a wash and dry, not exactly cheap. Our room had a clothes rack in it and we were able to dry light items in our room, overnight in the air conditioning.
TIPS: We obtained and used a Wise money card (and kept the digital version of it on phone), to pay for MRT rides and most other purchases to be honest. A really easily payment option and I certainly recommend it.
Also, there is a very well priced food court nearby called Food Dynasty which is on the ground floor at the intersection of Bencoolen St and Bras Basah are. It’s very close, has quite a bit of variety and pricing is the same as found in Hawker markets which was a pleasant surprise. I’ll attach a couple of menus to this post.
Food at supermarkets Singapore is not cheap and so it is not surprising that both tourists and locals, tend to eat out most of the time. We effectively didn’t use our kitchen cooking facilities.
We had hoped for a deck off our apartment but now see that would be pointless as the heat outside would make siting there almost unpleasant so don’t get hung up on finding a unit with a deck.

Hotel is comfortable and clean (and cool, good air-conditioning!). The location is good, one MRT station is directly across the road, and two other lines are within walking distance. There's also a bus stop on the corner of the road that services many tourist hotspots. The staff were all lovely and friendly. The pool is very nice, theres also a spa pool (not heated) and also has a separate kids pool which was great for our little one. There's also a small playground for kids.
The bedroom itself is quite small which is normal for Singapore, however it has a handy walk in robe for storing suitcases, clothes, shoes etc so the room doesn't feel too cramped, plus with the addition of the sitting room you have room to relax outside of the bedroom. The rooms are serviced daily.
The only negative I can mention is that the fire alarm went off 3 times during our 10 days, we didn't have to evacuate as they were false alarms which was announced over loudspeaker, so you don't have to leave the room unless instructed to, but it was still a bit alarming. But I suppose this is what happens when you give guests the ability to cook in their rooms.
Overall we had a great stay and would definitely recommend to others.

It is sort of a budget hotel so I wasn't expecting much. In fact the location of the hotel is great and the room is spacious and comfort. The staff were nice and the swimming pool was wonderful. You can do laps there. Although the hotel was under renovation at the time I visit, but I did not feel any inconvenience. The Internet was fast enough also. The only thing I thought I didn't like was that my expenses did not come with breakfast, which is always included in other Ascott hotels.
However, my dream had came to an end when I came back to my room in the evening of my first night there.
I always thought Singapore was a very clean country so I was shocked when I saw a cockroach in the bathroom. In any case, I am very scared of roaches...and it was in a hotel...I had no choice but tried my best to kill it. I wondered how that happened, but I was totally disappointed.
And it was not the only disappointment.
The key cards were malfunctioning the whole time of my stay. Actually, it was not the key card malfunctioning. I think it was the door/sensor instead. I could use the key cards to operate the elevators, but every time when I tried to go back to my room, I had to try inserting my key cards for 20 times in average before I could open the door. I talked to the staff but they said the key cards seemed fine. I totally agree with them because it was the door's problem. And they considered not doing anything about it.
I can tell the hotel is a bit old; that's why they are doing a general renovation; but it doesn't mean you can just leave the guestrooms' doors problem ignored and wait for the complete of the renovation.
So basically the hotel is not really bad but it hit on my two most unbearable limits. They have crossed the line.

Very convenient to explore the city. Premises currently undergoing renovations so there is a lot of noise during the day especially at the lobby area. It doesn't bother us at all, but seems to bother the staff more as they are not the friendliest persons we meet in Singapore.
Room very clean, laundry room not so, and the machines are very well used, to say the least. They have pictures showing they have a dining table in the one bedroom apartment but was told they removed it. The receptionist found us one eventually, so basically ask and try your luck.
Housekeeping staff are friendlier but kept bringing us the wrong items we asked due to miscommunication between them and the reception.

We (me and my wife) stayed 10 days in one bedroom apartment. The hotel is in a great location - just opposite the MRT station and within walking distance of shopping malls and food courts. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If you need pick-up from the airport you can arrange it (for a fee) as we did regardless that we arrived almost at 11 pm. Everything you need for your stay is there. The rooms are well-sized and very quiet.

I just spent nearly three months at the Somerset Bencoolen for work. Overall, my one bedroom apartment was a very comfortable stay in an excellent location right near Bencoolen MRT, and walking distance to Bras Basah and Dhoby Ghaut. While the rooms are a little older, they are very comfortable with two AC units. Having a kitchen is handy. The location is impeccable, I was moved to a unit on the Bencoolen side which was very quiet and peaceful. I used both the gym and the pool. My only suggestion would be to vacuum a little more often, but housekeeping was generally very good. Would recommend a stay.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment for one week back in August 2022 as a family of 4 (kids 5 and 3). Their renovation were almost complete by that stage. Our youngest was still napping in the afternoons and the noise was actually not too bad. The fire alarm did go off twice when we were there. Once during the day and another time in the middle of the night.
The apartment is spacious, clean and well equipped. Kids loved the swimming pool and there was also a small playground which was lovely. We love the convenience of the laundry room as travelling with kids meant there is always laundry to do. Housekeeping is efficient and we always came home to a lovely clean apartment. Service was friendly and prompt.
Best part about this apartment is their location. So so convenient. Taxi stand right outside the main entrance, and MRT station as well. Another 2 MRT station within walking distance. Also a short walk to Bugis Junction and plenty of restaurants and convenience stores which is handy. Travelling around is super convenient. We will be back in a heartbeat!

We just had a great 4 night stay in a 2br apartment. Lovely staff, clean and comfortable and nice rooftop pool. Some renovations were underway but that didn’t really affect us. Excellent location right at MRT station on Downtown line with taxi stand right out front, lots of food options close by including a couple of good gluten free options in local cafes.

I think it has a 2 night minimum stay period as it’s a Serviced Apartment so you may find you can not book just 1 night.
