I'm a long term traveller. I don't need too much to feel comfortable. I've been hosted in some places that are really crappy, but never found a place that deny even the toilet paper. Yes, this is the cheapest place that you'll found VIA INTERNET in Boracay but for sure that this is not the you want to take from Boracay. The list of problems in this place is infinite: - No toilet paper - Dark and not clean - Only cold water at shower - No sink (you cannot brush your teeth) - Wifi only near reception, not in rooms (and sloooooooow) - Not safe (everyone can take the keys from your room, without an ID and sometimes without nobody watching for the keys) - Laundry is forbidden (if you plan to stay more than two nights, you'll to wear your dirty clothes). - Staff doesn't resolve anything (for them all are hotel policies and cannot do anything). - Location is poor: it's near the beach (that's a positive point, but far from the place where you have to stay, the beach center) - Mosquitos are everywhere!! Take your mosquito net or you'll be bitten at night. There are dozens in the rooms and the bathroom. - If you are a backpacker looking for some backpacker atmosphere, you must know that here you are not going to find it, even in high season. No common areas. - Of course, there are hidden extra charges for everything: towel, toilet paper, laundry,... Please, make yourself a favor and don't go to this place. You'll go out Boracay with a bad impression of the island that is not real.

We came to Boracay during Typhoon (pretty unlucky, but things happen:) )and we ended up staying at Da Mario hotel. First of all, the staff was unfriendly from the beginning (which was quite unusual for Filipino people). The dorm room didn't look any better than a prison cell and the bed at the top was cracked and it looked like it is going to fall on your head. Luckily no one slept on the top! However, if you can manage the room conditions, the price value is really good and it's Boracay-so it's hard to find a cheap accommodation. The biggest minus is the RIDICULES rules this hotel has: extra charges for towels, hot water or ever a cup; don't you dare to do your laundry as you will be charged extra money per every item you wash!; no guest allowed at ANY TIME, even if it is 5 minutes visit! All in all, we loved Boracay island, but next time we better bring a tent with us :D

I stayed one week and felt right at home, but I'll make this clear first, the backpacker dorm rooms and facilities are very basic. You get what you pay for in this respect, HOWEVER, there were works to make improvements throughout my stay, PLUS... ...The complex is right on a quieter stretch of the beach which is perfect if you want to lounge and swim throughout the day. Being hassled for massages/ ice cream is minimal here for Boracay. The staff were more than happy to bring out sunbeds free of charge whenever asked. While I was there in low season as a solo traveller, the place was very quiet in comparison to other hostels. However, I did meet a few great people staying at Da Mario. There are awesome bars close by but you will have to walk a while/ get transport to the busiest night life areas, I'm talking at the most, a 30 minute walk. But there are places along the whole beach front so it doesn't have to be that far. Staff were friendly and easy going. They will also lock any valuables away if you want them too. Also, For a budget backpacker, this is a hidden gem.

I stayed in da Mario recently and it was terrible. No one was there at the time I stayed and I had a room to myself. All other rooms were not taken. The staff put a man they called crazy in my room with all of my things and during the night he stole my phone. When all other rooms are not taken I was so unimpressed by them allowing him in my room. Luckily I was out all night and never saw him, I was really afraid that I may have been taken advantage of if not. The staff did not care. Stay at Frendz resort, it's cheap and amazing!!

I had a great time staying the Da Mario. I was just in the Philippines for 2 weeks and spent that majority of my nights there. The rooms we stayed in were college dorm style, perfect for what my team needed (we were there for a missions trip). Each room had its own bathroom and an air conditioner. The bathroom in room one was not great and had problems, but when you're in the Philippines, why should you complain about the little things? The shower was good enough to shower in and the toilet was there when we needed it. The outside of the hotel was quite nice as well. There were a few hammocks for the guests, a little bar/restaurant, and a walkway to the beach. The bar/restaurant seems to have gotten some bad reviews, but we all enjoyed it. Irene and Marlot are two of the workers there and they make the best mango shakes on the island. Far better than Jonah's. If you choose to stay here, you must order a mango shake on a night that Irene is working. The pizzas were also good. After a day of work it was always nice to stop by and order a mushroom, white, or plain pepperoni pizza. Mario is also a nice gentleman, contrary to other reviews. If you are looking for a place to stay that is close to the beach, Da Mario is a good choice. The hotel rooms are no more than 200 feet away from the beach. If you want to explore the shops each night, Da Mario is still a good choice, though the walk to get to the touristy shops is probably 7 minutes down the beach, 5 if you walk along the water rather than the sidewalk. The beach in front of the hotel is amazing. Since it is in Zone 3 and not the more tourist centered Zone 1, there are not many people in the water during the day time. You may see some locals hanging around and usually a few sailboats pulled on shore, but for the most part is a quiet area. The water is extremely clear and the white sand is beautiful. My final review is as follows: the rooms were good if you're with friends, the bathrooms could use some help. Don't expect hot water when taking a shower. The room service gave new sheets and towels everyday. The room service is pretty trustworthy, but just to be safe, don't leave money lying around on the night stand. The location is perfect. There is a short walk to the tourist shops, but the walk is enjoyable. After all, you are on a beach in Boracay. If you like mangos, the bar out front makes the best mango shake on the island. Even if you don't like mangos (like me before this trip), the shakes are amazing. The sunsets are amazing and beach out front is clean and quiet, with very few people around. If you want a fun trip in a nice but not extremely crowded or fancy place, stay at Da Mario. If you want to be in a crowded and fancy area with lots of tourists and noise, look at a hotel in Zone 1 or 2.
